And when i go out to tag, i just take a look at my mini blackbook. Its about 2 x 3 or 4 so its relitively small. I just put my tags in there.

personally, i dont get why so many toys feel the need to go out and buy nice sketch books. im gonna bet that most of them wont even stick to graff in the long run. my advice: do wat i do. go to target or kmart or the big wally and get urself a couple of those composition notebooks. theyre like 10 cents a piece. almost not even worth stealing. and then sketch ur heart out. save the nice books for the big boys.

I use a 1" 3 ring binder with copy paper that i took a 3-hole-punch too. I can take stuff out when i want to, put more paper in whenever i want, it doesnt attract attention, has pockets for my stickers, and most of them have a clear screen on the front if you want to put a serious peice on the cover or something. They come in just about any color and are dirt cheap if they ever wear out. That's what i use anyways.

just use a soaker page like everyone else.. or theres this cardboard-like stuff but i dont think it comes in hardcover

also if your using alcohol markers try getting some photo paper for your soaker sheet cuz otherwise you need like 4 layers for it not to go thru and some times it still goes thru wit 4 layers

60-70lbs is dry media sketching. 80lb paper or higher can handle markers without bleeding too much. I suggest about 85lb paper if your using markers. Just look around at michaels etc for it.

I have one of the little 3.5" x 5.5" black Moleskine notebooks, get the one with plain paper. It rocks, because I can keep it in my back pocket and just whip it out when an idea hits home.
Also, you can even use Prismacolor markers and shit on it and it won't bleed.

It even has a little folder in the back for putting other drawings and papers and shit in.

You can use anything you like for a blackbook, but traditionally its black. scrap paper is ok, but with a book you can leaf back and learn from your previous efforts. Its too easy to lose stuff if you use scraps. if you fill a book, get a new one and put the other somewhere safe. You'll develop your own style quicker by retrospection than you will by biting from your betters. It takes a long time to understand how what you've bitten works and flows. If you actually worked something out in your book yourself you already know how it flows and can take it even further. Who knows, maybe you'll come up with something no ones seen.

i use 2 hardcover travel sketch books. 1 is my blackbook where i work on tags and throws (and try piece layouts. I know I dont have the skills, but a toys gotta dream right?) In my 2nd book i'm writing a novel. Its not for anyone else but me. Its a great way to practice your handie. when i look back at early pages i can see slow improvement in form and fluidity. As kewl as a mad wildstyle piece may be, when you do your first full page of neat flowing handie, you'll feel like you've really accomplished something. This was stressed to me time and again.

And seriously consider adding a handie book to your blackbook and practice your handwriting too. How can you write your name up for all to see when you cant write a fucking sentence legibly.
