View Full Version : Stencil Graffiti
Wot you lot think about stencils? Do you think that people that can make stencils are talented artists or not? I did a 3 layer stencil for my art final piece. I'll post a picture of it if someone can tell me how to do it. Well confused...

stenciling is definitly an art but you wont get much respect for just doing stencils there is not enough skill involed

Yeah.
It requires no can skill, but it's hard to make a god stencil.

I've gonna say, that is complete bullshit. Stenciling is very difficult to get good at, just like traditional graff. Only difference is you can get better faster---nonetheless it takes a lot of skill, especially to make them freehand
stencilings pretty cool im not into it tho
I mostly paint, but my stencils are getting pretty detailed now. I think that a sick idea is to have a piece, with the details in the fill with mad stencil shapes and shit. Someone tell me how to upload pictures. Definatley have to be quite talented to do really crisp stencils. I'm liking some of BANKSYs new shit.

im sorry bad word choice im not trying to shoot you down im just saying that i dont belive stencils to be of high rank in the graffiti world, myself i would rather see a nice handstyle than a stencil because i know that the guy doing the handstyle has to recreate his work everytime he gets up were as a stencil you make a couple and ur set for a while.Hold and spray shit you know what i mean. Now if you are going out and doing pieces with stencils then my past coment is meaningless. I cant really see the advantages of using a stencil to create a piece except to lazy to learn can control or you want really really sharp lines.

banksy is owsome, i would personaly rather look at his stencils den look at a simply good graffer...
stencil is very very hard at da begining, but u get good quik..
graffiti its not dat hard, just get a pen and some paper and practise (or a can and a wall) but it takes longer to get good...
they are both creative art forms, but both in different ways
Safe, safe this is one of my stencils.http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/5639/dscf00466ua.jpg It 3 layers. Wot do you think?
Here is another one, a bit less detail, but I still think its cool. http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/5174/superstar39gu.jpg

anyone can cut a stencil...all you need to do is go get some type of sharp blade and paper and cut it into a design you like.....just like regular graffiti.
anyone can do graffiti, you can just go to the store, get a can of paint...go to a wall and spray
it takes a real artist to make a stencil "apealing as art"
a good stencil artist will evenly, smoothly cut their lines with elaborate ideas behind the stencil. a good stenciler will pick the right spot with the most attention torwards it, a good stenciler will make it "pop"
im a huge fan of stenciling and is my number one pick as far as graffiti goes
somthing about a piece of paper with cuts on it up against somthing getting so much attention, and looking so nice blows my mind

tyler tried making a stencil and he showed me a piece of paper with macaroni glued to it...i smacked him and said "silly fool! thats not a stencil!"
plan b- that stencil is lookin right straight mane!
but forreal...i think tylers the best stenciler here...hed smoke anyone!
this one girl i chill out with used a stencil once. it was a skull.....of course, typically she always does the damn skull shit... sorry, it just annoys me sometimes cause you see skulls EVERYfUCKINGPLACE!
stencils are the single most politically charged form of graffitti and on of my personal favorites. The best use is to fill in with a lighter shade of a color used in a bomb. It's fucking awesome if you do it just right.

stencils are alright, not sure which requires more skill, traditional graff or stencil. Both are defenitly an art form and require skill to get good at soooo. btw how do you make a stencil?? i mean the 3-5 layered ones..

they require like no graffiti skills,

Pretty much exactly what I was gonna say.
Stencil Art/Graffiti is more based around the creation/designing of the stencil not actually painting it, whereas 'traditional' graffiti is kinda the other way around (although with still a lot of focus on the 'design' aspect). That's how I feel about it anyway.
