I wanted to start graff when I was 5...I didn't know waht it was called then...but I wanted to do it.
We used to pass the tech wall a lot on our way for ban mi.
I loved every inch of it.
Now i"m doing it.

Why the fuck do you keep calling yourself white?...that doesn't have anything to do with this. You got to have the right motives. You got to understand that you can't just beat up cops when you get rolled on painting. You get fined, sent to jail, community service and such.

Again, it's all cool.

Yeah, no shit. I'm not that dumb. If I want to ever put my tags up, then shit, I gotta watch out for cops. They are not gonna let me just walk away if I drop my shit and hold my hands up in surrender. I'll be treated like any other criminal. Cuffed, thrown into the back seat, and gone, all the way to the station, then to prison or jail, whatever I get stuck with. That's the life. To quote Trane from that game "If they catch you, it's a rap. If they don't, then be ready to run, forever, and ever and ever and ever and ever"

Reason I keep saying white. Just to say, that white people are not the wisest mother fuckers on the planet. That, and I just say it. Maybe as a way to excuse myself for being so dumb about graffiti

Its important to have the right motives, do graffiti for yourself and don't worry if you get "dripz" the first few times you use paint. Your "street cred meter" won't activate until you enter the cheat codes.

And another thing, don't disgrace the race. Its ok to be white, we're have smart people and we have dumb people in every race.

the way i got into graff was kind of weird, i just turned to my friend 1 day and said "wanna do graffiti?" he says "sure. i dont give a fuck" and two writers were born that day

I started a little over a year ago because I picked up this underground hip hop magazine and saw some dope graf flicks and thought to my self, "I need a hobby, this is amazing shit"

So the next day at school during lunch I went to my friend asked him if he wanted to do graffiti and he was like "actually, I've been thinking about".

We then proceeded to do some really toy throwups in the school bathroom with a green sharpie. we thought we were hot shit

i only started like 8 months ago and i already sort of forget how i started, Well back then i was super into video games so when mark eckos game was coming out i wanted to play it so that kind of got me interested in it, then i saw this thing on the news that had a story about this kid in britan that said he had been doing a lot of graffiti, so then he got arrested and put on house arrest (or whatever its called) but he kept doing it anyways and got in alot of shit. But i think he didnt care. After seing that, i wanted to do graffiti. Also after getting addicted to graffiti, i dont really play video games anymore. so i guess graffiti stopped my other addictions.

ive always been a big artist,,,,always drawed,,,created characters and surreal settings,,, my pot head friends always wondered what i could be able to do if my mind had some shrooms on me,, cuz i would come up with sick stuff,,,,it finally came in my senior year of High School, Always thought about getting up,,, but never liked to be always alone,, well on trip to a art contest at a college where a bunch of the best from each skoolz competed,,, me and my other dudes had some chalk just drawing on stuff,,,and we all looked at each other and said,,, yo we should go out and bomb some time my 3 dudes that i go with,, who call them selves Loki, Saint, (first 2 are thinking of a name change, Drix, and me the Mighty Mighty "Big T.L. Springs" . I didnt get into it just to tag my name,,,,I wanted to creat elaborat shit,,, and i hated how everyones tag was always the same style,,, and always had somethan like blah 0ne or any name with 1 or 2 at the end,,, not to say i got beef or dont like it,, i just wanted to differ my self and stand out,,,, my name which has a meaning behind it,, ended up kinda long for a name and i wanted to throw the best quality shit not just tagg you name and leave but i wanted to hit country underpasses by the turnpike and tunnels,, not just the streets and burbs but the rural too.

i want to create,,,,,,,by the way, i think my next graff piece is going to be from a previous project,, check it out.

i was 8 , i looked down a long alleyway and saw what i thought was a nicely painted mural , i walked further down and saw the back area of this surf shop had like 4 burners and a full scale octopuss with orange goo dripping out its eyes entire backdrop was black with crazy space patterns and things , needless to say i was spellbound , for the next 5 or so years as years passed i started to notice some nice looking tags but mostly that one day when i saw the pieces and stuff thats what blew me away.

When i was really little, my favorite thing was to color in the coloring books with like disney pictures on them. From there i started drawing with crayons and shit and since then always had an interest in drawing.

at some point i started noticing the graffiti on all the overpass walls while driving on the highway. I thought it was really cool and I started remembering the names and got really good at able to read wildstyles and handstyles.

in elementry school i got into painting but everyone thought it was stupid and for girls.

eventually sometime in middle school i decided i was gunna write my name in cool letters and i made a fade with colored pencils similar to the fades you can have in word art. I wrote my name more and more and people told me it had a graffiti style and they thought it was cool. So i came upon this site, created my name and started my life as a graff artist.

Fuck.. I hate being part of the "Getting Up" generation. I think we'll always be looked down upon becuase of that stupid fucking game. Anway, I kinda just slid into it. I always drew and was always considered "artistic" by friends and family. Then I just moved from pictures to letters. I was just doing my real name then friends and it got to a point where I wanted to do more. I started noticing graff on my trips to Philly and started reading up on it. Decided on a name and never looked back.

Then he started teaching me stuff, and he painted me this canvas that i loved. From then on i've been loving it more and more. Now he's telling me that if i get up anywhere he will cap everything i do. He keeps threatening me and shit....well fuck you. I'm getting up when and where i want. Me and a good friend of mine have been into it since Middle School. We would go skateboard all over the place and always see it but never actually tried it. Then recently we got into it and found out that many of the people we used to skate with were writers.

i got into graffiti after i started hangin out with these bomb ass writers that i lived by as a little kid. i have always been into art but after i realized that u could switch out caps and actually control the paint that came outta the can it was on. all it took was a whole lottle fucked up looking tags and mad support from the older writers and the rest was history. now im not gonna say im good, but 2 me "good" is appreciating the fact that u just risked gettin swooped on by the fuzz 2 put up a personal expression of urself, fuck wat err body else thinks!!! ne AKron writers holr back and lets show AK wat paint REALLY looks like

First post after lurking for a while, woo!

Anyways, I used to skate with a few of my friends every day for hours on end. It was ridiculous, we'd skate for 10 or 12 hours a day on summer break, but it was a great experience (and taught me how to stretch my money out as long as possible :-P). We'd always stare in awe at the huge pieces that artists had put up that we could see through the windows of the not-quite-underground subways on our way to a different part of the city. We even met an aging writer on the train once (he must have been 40 or 50), he did a quick tag on the seat in paint sharpie but he had a clean, consistent handstyle. I wish I could remember his name.

One of my skating friends was in a nonspecific gang (I don't like beef so I won't say which one) and was into graff. He got my best friend into tagging (and then later throw ups, and most recently after being busted for doing a throw up in broad daylight next to a busy road he's been buying blank skate decks and doing (good) stencil designs on them and selling them to all the little next-generation skater kids). After watching my best friend tag and do throw ups, and after going out with him and 1-2 other people and watching them tag/throw-ups in the dead of night, I got curious about it, made up a name, was bad at it, then decided not to pursue it.

Recently I traveled to Australia, and noticed the amazing stuff they have over there. Serious art, like landscapes on the sides of buildings and huge (6-8ft) characters in alleyways in the shopping districts. I got curious again, and decided to pursue it and not give up. I still suck, but I'm working. For the past few weeks I've been working on single letters and 2-letter combinations in a notebook, and I've noticed I've been getting better for once. :)

I'm iffy on even buying paint until I get a decent sketch down - I want to have something laid out that I can transfer to plywood or something, and start practicing my can control with and all that good stuff. And even then, I'm only going public with stuff I really like. I don't want to be that jackass that gets every little thing crossed out -- you know who I'm talking about. Laugh if you guys want, but whatever.

I stopped after a neighbor saw me tag someones car and called the cops. I had two dumbass in my class that had failed grade 10 math like 3 times (they were much older then me) and i started hanging around them and one day in class buddy pulls out his blackbook and starts workin on a piece and i was facinated.. He showed me how to form letters and shit and i have been working and dropping bombs ever since. I have come hella long way from where they started me, but they were hardcore in throws and tags so i became hella good at my handstyles

My bro was hella in to street art but I didn't really pay attention to it until I was like 13, than I was like "Holy Shit, This shit is tight". All it took was a sharpie, can of flat black speed enamle from the local ace and a mailla folder turned stencil.

damn was I a toy

I made friends with these kids from a different school, and their basement is all painted by them. They showed me their blackbooks and I was like shhiit that's cool. So I came up with a name and a shitty tag, and I've been into it ever since.

This other girl got into it because of the same kids, and we became friends and started a girls crew, and we've been recruiting more girls into the graff scene.

when i first got into it, it was because of my uncle. he's only like 5 years older than me and one year he came down to visit for christmas and he was really into his graf and like he had a sketchbook full of all these pieces and stuff...this was when i was like 11 and i'd try to write...and it didn't work... so i stoped. but like everywhere i went when i'd see a piece i'd have to absorbe it.. then like last spring i meet this guy who was really into graf. and he'd take me painting and stuff...and i haven't stopped ever since.

i got into it on my own. as a young kid (about 10yrs old) it was the late 1990s and i just started noticing the wild funky colours and styles and i loved it. alot of the big london crews where painting my area at the time, i didnt know what it was. graff wasnt all over the net like it is now, so i got to know about the scene and whos up etc by seeing it first hand. i also started to sketch at this time and as i learnt more about the scene and went out and took flicks i started to find my own style. after a few years hard sketching my style was to a high standard and i started to paint.

the lesson is sketch, sketch and sketch some more! only then should you even consider picking up a can. and if your only in it for the image or cant be pissed to practice.....just fuck off.....we dont want you!

keep pushing the style boundaries!

some of my friends had some sharpies and was like dude you gotta try tagging man its so fun!
what toy wiggers we tried to be
we used our initials and the fine point sharpies....wow
but 10 years later i started learning about of this crazy shit
you know tag names hand styles
making your own inks and makers
peices bombs etc
so much fun

its an addiction
anytime i go somewhere i gotta make sure i got my markers

seeing it as a young kid on the wall's everywhere, and i liked it. so i began to draw it on paper, and after a year of drawing, i bought some cans and putted some of my sketches on the wall. it was damn ugly, but whatever. the design was pretty good, but it sucked with paint =p

i honestly would say i dont even know, i guess it started by moving to canada, right after i got here i met someone who was a writer but hes done now,2 years ago i started taggin then just fell off after six months or so . then around last november got into it again, ever since the its being an addiction, i do something with graff everyday wether its sketching, catching a tag, practicing paintiing in the backyard etc. its turned in to one of those things like when im walking some where if i can walk in five minutes and see no graff or walk in twenty and see lots id rather take twenty mins. its just a mixture of everything really, i cant say one day i got into it, it prolli like evolved over time

I took a trip to New York when I was about 12, we were moving my sister there, the whole way there on teh highways off to the sides there was nothing but vacant buildings and graffiti, as well as vacant buldings with graffiti on them haha. I thought man this stuff really gives this place its own character. Coming from Ohio I never really saw that at all. You drive through a town and what do you know it looks just like the town I was just in a few miles back, clean cut and boring and if you didnt know where you where you probbably wouldnt be able to tell the difference one town to the next, I hate it. not even in big places like cleveland did I really see much. and if there was any it was almost ghostly because it had bee natempted to be buffed already. I know it might sound corny but that was my first inspiration was my trip to NY there was just massive amounts of it everywhere. I just didnt know where to start especially at that age, not until recently atleast. I had friends throughout highschool with blackbooks and did sweet stuff they just never went out I dont think, they where more artists than street artists. thats my story.

I got into graffiti because I have always loved writing and letter forms and I have always loved graffiti and calligraphy. I remember back in my GCSEs I tried to do my exam on graffiti. Damn that shit was embarrassing I regret that so much it was a complete fucking mess. I don't think I realized at the time that graffiti was not as easy as it looks. Anyway a year later I did a bit of basic writing. Stoped when I got in a relationship and another year and a half later I got back into it in the form of stencils after seeing a few banksy pieces in Bristol.

I got fed up of stencils so I turned back to writing. Damn in the last 6months iv improved so much but I still have a VERY long way to go! Still dedication is the way forward!

i got into it becuz me and my bro used to walk around the city
looking at graffiti, on day a few years later i took a walk to go see some new writing, and amazingly every bit of writing was painted over with thick lime green paint, and some of the graffiti was like from the 80's so u know it was mad shit.

so i figured i start writing for myself and it just took off from there

I live in a small town and there's a derailed train that all the "hard-ass" preppy kids write their names on.

One of my best friend's friend did a bunch of absolutely sick skulls on the train and right next to it someone tagged "Bliss." After seeing that and some other sick pieces when I went into the city, I started messing around.

I was always really good at art and i always drew my name in bubble letters since i can remember then one day when i was 12 or so i was climbing on the roof of an abandoned factory, for those of you in toronto it was the brickworks, but that was when there was next to no graffiti in it and anyways i found a used can on the roof and my friend identified it as spraypaint so i decided i would do my bubble letter but it ran out halfway through and i had to go back and finish it, and then for the next 2 or 3 months i would go about once a week and usually paint a face around the brickworks and then soon i realised other people did graffiti to, i met artist and realised there was a community with rules, about names, tags, throwups, pieces, and then i started noticing names all around the city, i noticed EYES first, and then it just took of from there
