any of you cats going to school right now? and I dont mean high school that's just childs play..

right now im in first year university but im dropping out once i finish up the year (in may) and taking an electrician course next fall... I figure i'd rather spend 36 weeks learning and the rest of my 4 years working/earning my ticket so i can have some cash and be in a hands on industry, opposed to 4 years in a class room busting my ass writing essays and researching through books, plus being a starving student sucks, and living away from my girlfriend is the worst!

well let's see if this thread lasts...

we were supposed to move by now, so it never happened with the college thing, figured i would sign up at community when me got down south

Well if you can handle it, take one or two classes, like an english comprehension or any basic one, that'll give u credits for when u do start.. atleast in Canada most college/university courses are transferrable. Hey it's nice to get a head start once in a while in this shitty world!

high honers, clean record(except for an in school suspension that was bullshit), do all my work(event if i rush it the class before its due), and i still have time to paint and chill with homies

I dropped out because I would rather move out and away from my parents before I was 19 then live with them for years while I went to school. im in my third year at Syracuse University (go orange!) doing illustration. the program here is real nice, they got a bunch of amazing illustrators teaching me a whole slew of useful things in the art world. it's all personal opinion i suppose, but school is shitty, but in the end school is the shit. just get to college and study something you know you love (for me it's art, for some it's history... :huh: ). high school was bs yeah. not saying everything in college is easy cause i do art and i love it, they still dog you on the fundamentals and such. last word though, in the end all of the techniques and devices i've learned in the field of illustration so far has been very invaluable.

i have to upgrade my math to get into any courses... im doing that this upcoming semester. im not all that interested in trades... I could be in the future, though.

I dont like the idea of being doing the bitch work and it being considered 'learning'.
plus... a lot of kids (myself especially) were too busy not giving a shit about highschool and just sneeking by to graduate. a year later im really upset with my choices. luckly I dont have to take 10 classes or somthign to make up for it.

Well I'm going to take an electrical apprenticeship, so i dont know why i'd have my ass hanging out in 3M coveralls, but okay...

and I'll be making 20 an hr my 1st year, and by the time i get my ticket i'll be contracting my own work, and soon have people doing it for me, owning my own business..

I dont know where you're from, but the people in my city driving the bmws, lexus, and all the fucking nice heavy duty trucks, are all trades man! You dont know shit about the money involved in trades, you think if you get ur trades ticket properly through an institution and actually enjoy the work that you'll be the idoit with ur ass hanging out fixing a sink!? you are the idiot, im going to be the one with my name on all the pay cheques, including my own $$.

Man I'm going back to get a BA in science, then going to major in Biochemistry with a minor in Pyshics/Engineering. Trying to work for a government space program for a country that would also let me do my own research on medicinal and biological aspects of the sweet mary jane. Don't know too much about Canadas space programs though, only Russia and the United States.

If your only going to go into a trade for money, obviously you'll have a chance to make money, but your going to have a very unhappy and unfulfilling life. Unless fixing stuff for other people is your thing, then more power to ya. I know I hate working in any trade/service industry.
