View Full Version : Self-tought Or You Had A Tutor
I was semi self tought...Like I went out with two of my friends one night and I was just being a lookout for them.. And at the end of the night I was like that was fresh. So I started and they gave me markers and shit and introduced me to bombingscience..

I experiment and I just teach myself things, in fact I usually find myself helping others out with problems..
edit~ I'm definitely self thought, but I'm also inspired.

Pretty much self taught, atleast when I first started. Met a decent writer but only painted with him a few times then he moved, he showed me a few things, but not a whole lot.

ive been learning on my own. i dont know anybody else who writes. so every bit of advice ive gotten is from people that dont write or people here on bs
I started out doing my own shit for a month then found this site, and went on from there. Then I become a toy that was teaching my friends how to get better and then I gave up all together.
self taught. started with stencils of shit, then tagging. moving to a new city soon, so i'll have to start all over. which is going to be interesting!

I always like seeing graffiti on the trains as a kid so I started writing on walls. Pretty much self taught, drawing on paper is good practice.

Looking back, I remember similarities between things I drew in Elementary and a couple Blade pieces. As for handstyles, I've always, ALWAYS been making them.
However, my heroes are SPUD, NSC#, and DRAKE, fo' sure. Just to name a few.
I've never had a lesson from a writer--and there are actually shitloads of them in Lexington.
FHC, BTS, KS, TM, PKY, et al. crews, and mine is a pitiful comparison. I have to say that I am my crew's dopest writer--but I AM founder....
No boast, btw, I'm not THAT cold. But all my apprentices are toys in a MAJOR way. I'd like to meet a REAL writer, and make friends some day soon.
Actually, that student teacher @ TCHS was a writer.

my freind introduced me but hes like worse than a toy. he went to some fancy college class on graffiti and i thought that was wack as hell. first time i painted i painted wit him and i wrote LA and it was way better than his wack block lettered "zero". dont get me wrong i love da guy but at that time we both sucked but i was alot better than him.
I am pretty self taught, but i have bitten a couple color schemes from others, but thats about it

If you guys need help with color go to a bookstore/web and look up color theory. Even a color wheel. in order to make colors POP you need to use contrast. Thats what I used and it helps me use colors that I am not comfortable with but make sections stand out.
*EDIT-I am also in the process of coming up with a book that breaks down letter structure. A how to from the most basic to complex shit going through my head. I've seen how to graff books and they aren't that great. I understand it's difficult when you don't have someone(or a crew) to help with the creative process when you want to move on from simple styles.
