Hey, for those of you take the time to keep track of your caps when your out hittin shit up and you dont feel like forkin over 20 bucks (that you probably had to steal from an old woman) for more little plastic thingies; here's a good way to keep em' clean.

1. gather caps
2. get a can or bowl
3. some mineral spirits or paint thinner
4. and air compressor if possible
5. about fourty minutes of your time

just let them soke for a half an hour, and just blow them out with the compressed air, or if the compression is a prob. just blow in them and watch it on the inhale. I know it seems kind of obvious but not many people take the time to clean their caps or even keep track of them.

why dont you just hold the can upside down and spray with the cap on and clean it out when its letting out pressure from the can

slavetopaint

i dont like the taste of paint thinner. at all. the worst ive tasted as far as graff goes is an oil based ink marker from the dollar stores... shit actually stained my teeth for a day and burned my tongue lol...

the upside down can thing is wak... it will spray paint for a while and will lower the pressure in your can also.... i just keep some empty cans around at home for unclogging caps... when im out painting i blow in the caps after use when possible... u get painted lips but u save money!

I just went to the trouble of putting some of my old caps in Mineral Spirits, a couple of nights ago. I find NY thins clog retardedly fast. I personall don't have the dough to fork out for new ones because I am currently unemployed and not living with/supported by my mum and daddy like many of you. So, this information isn't useless. I've yet to try nail polish remover, but I've heard it works (it has also been mentioned on this board by Flow).

all you have to do is when your finished painting you flip the can upside down and spray untill the air looks clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok yes, we have made many points on this thread so far, let us review class.

1. if you dont like paint thinner, don't do it...there are some people dumb
enough to try it.
2. though caps are reasonably cheap, there are times when you have the chance
do some nice stuff...and may not have the time to get new caps or wait for the
UPS guy

don't let your caps too long in the paint thinner 'cause after a while the cap become shit 'cause the thinner kind of start eating the plastic of the cap...

I gotta say that buying new cap may be a good way....but you gotta have enuff dough which is not the case for everyone....

sorry for the toy question, but on one of my montanas, on the stock cap, when i press down, no paint sprays out, but when i take off my finger off the cap, it pops off and a little paint spatters out, does this mean i need to clean my cap?

slavetopaint
06-20-2004, 06:01 PM
yeah, its a little dirty, you may want to put a new cap on that .

06-22-2004, 09:25 AM
the cap is clogged, it pops because of built up pressure, sometimes all you need to do is push it down, and let it pop up like ten times until it starts flowing all pretty like you want it

i fool around in my backyard with paint, so this is easy for me. get some paint thinner, for like any paint, and fill a little cup with it. put a bunch of caps in, and either let them soak, or just shake it up a little. usually works good for me.

Jiphie
06-30-2004, 11:37 PM
just drop them in a cup/bucket full of paint thinner for a day or so...it works.

damn use the paint thinner of empty cans. thinner is like 5$ a gallon in montreal!

I never have a problem with dirty caps...mainly because all the caps i had on my cans when i leave to go bombing, are nowhere to be seen at the end of the night. Oh well! Thank god for the NY Fat 100 pack :)

What I do is I take a kicked can that I just got done with, and when I'm done taggin use the compressed air from that to get the paint out of the tube so it wont clog.

NOTE: Make sure all paint is out of can otherwise it will just clog again.

AXIS

Save a few empty cans, when they are all out of paint they usually have a fair a bit of air left in them. Pop your caps on those cans to clean all of them out without wasting any paint.

If you're gonna soak em in thinner, after you do that, grab a can of air duster, like for keyboard cleaning and what not, and stick the cap on the little hose, fits perfectly. Blow some air through it and you're good to go. hell you could even use wd40 or anything that comes with a straw, they all fit into the stem of the cap. wooo

i bout a bag of 125 different caps like a year ago...........(which i STILL use). All u have to do is bring them home and throw them in some soap water then blow them out.........easy as that. dont gotta get all technical with the paint thinnners n shit.

If you dont have enough money for thinner or the upside down trick doesnt work. Over by the paint section in Wal-Mart they sell this shit its called OOPS! its a multy purpose remover in an aerosol can. This shit is a cap saver and its cheaper than a can of Krylon. For best results use while you are bombing, use also after switching caps. If you feel or hear that your cap is clogging and the upside down trick doesnt work , which it doesnt always, pop those caps on a can of OOPS! & spray away. Just remember that the paint must be somewhat wet for it to work, it will NOT work if the paint is already dried in the cap.

PEACE.

For some reason the soaking in paint thinner worked on a few old german outlines, but i keep finding clogged ny thins and ny fats and i just cant seem to get this shit unclogged. There dried to. Which may mean im fucked. Looks like its time to browse the adhesive section of a few craft stores.

That won't work for most tips, because most airduster cans are male. Plus, I can't see that doing anything different or better than just holding the can upside down and spraying...

Attican
09-18-2007, 09:23 AM
I don't think that method would work. Cause air gets trapped in the caps while the paint drys, so the thinner probably doesn't even get to the paint.

That method probably only works if the paint's still wet.

Or you could go fuck yourself. If you notice, I don't bitch when people post in old threads AND ADD SOMETHING TO THE CONVERSATION.

But it's amazing how people post to a two year old thread and go "Hey post pics please thanks."

And why do I bitch? Because when people spam the threads, the mods have to work harder. And when the mods have to work harder, they get pissy, and rightfully so. And people end up getting banned over stupid shit.

Call me crazy, but I'd like to see the people here stay here. Even the ones I don't like. It would be amazing if everyone could post relevant, on topic information, maybe we could bring old threads back without people getting pissed off. But instead, we have four "HOW DO I CLEAN CAPS?" threads and it's fucking retarded.

So, yeah, you can bitch to me about what I say when people stop brining back redundant dead threads by adding pointless posts.

what i do is oil them a bit wit wd40, then pop out the dot wit a knife(careful here this can be hard wit belton and NY caps) and then spray WD through it, which loosens most paint, then spray some krylon through them too, then more WD to prevent the krylon reclogging..it sounds complicated but it works well..if anyone wants pics shout n ill get some
