perfect for nibS!!!!! ;) (1&3)
a quick easy 1 is to get the fattest window marker available [screw top] take out the ink and replace it with 3/4 paint to 1/4 thinner leave in the pump valve to avoid excessive drips. o ya leave out the bearing too coz i hate that rattling

im still feeling my mops hardcore and besides you allways gotta wear kind of crappy cloths when you go out bombing cause lets face it it sucks getting paint on your cloths
here, i didnt know where to post because this is a combination of both a marker, and a ink thread.
basically i started with a ink called parker, quink.
http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/448/parkerink2om.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
then i added this stuff its called fasglitter, its really tiny, and finely ground. I used the pearl, i dumped half of the container into the parker ink and mixed thoroughly
http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/6342/fasglitter17st.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
heres a snap of the colors that are available
http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/4434/fasglitter20ya.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
then i pored into this marker purchased from http://www.BombingScience.com/
it's 3/4 size nib, and is inexpensive (different views)
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1985/pink18io.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/5920/pink24yg.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/5747/pink32yu.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
basically the glass flakes are small enough to pass through the nib, and if you press the marker hard enough the ink drips, and it looks nice so you have hi metalic tags
...sorry no snaps of the tag...
umm i means art primo, bombing science converted it to their site <_<

i read on this thread a while back that when you use a shoe polish bottle for a mop and you let the shoe polish go through the nib it fucks up ur marker. is that true cus i made 1 and the ink doesnt come out that fast and it doesnt work as well as i expected. do i need to get a new nib? also i got some ink from a stationary store. what should i mix with it to make it better?
BRAINE
05-22-2006, 10:18 PM
you can clean the nib with water and rubbing alcohol. if you want it to dry fast throw it in the clothes dryer for about 3 minutes.
works with zig nibs too.
if your ink is waterbased you cant do much to make it better, but leather dye may work and a small amount of brake fluid will work. (dot3)
if its alcohol based there is a whole slew of things you could do to make it better.
i would suggest using stamp pad ink because it stains pretty good and its cheap and easy to find (sanford brand is available at most office depot or max chain stores)
the only problem with that is that it doesnt dry fast at all, unless its like super sunny out.
or just buy some ink from the internet. bombingscience carries lots of inks and paints for mops and they also take money orders.
if you really want the link to the baby blue site you can pm me, but to be honest they only ship to canada, and most of their products cost more than on bombingscience, even when converted to american currency.
and the graphics on that site are so lame.
and macdre thank you for the markers. they came pretty fast. word up kid, mad props.

i've only ever made one of my own markers... although it turned out good.
you will need a chapstick, candle (or other form of wax), felt chalkboard eraser, an eyedropper, glue, and whatever ink you choose to use.
clean the chapstick out of the container, then dry it out and melt a relatively thick layer of wax along the inside bottom of the container, to seal it. use the eyedropper to fill the container with your ink. cut a strip from the chalkboard eraser. different brands have different thicknesses/densities. a less dense one will drip more and you'll run out of ink quicker, and the opposite for a denser one. cut an appropriate size of eraser felt to fit in the top of the container, and seal it with some good glue, or even the wax if you want.
refilling can be a bitch, you can either tear out the nib, refill, then glue it back, or cut/drill a small hole in the side, large enough for the eyedropper to just fit inside, but small enough to be sealed easily.
so can u refill one?
*a Zig Biggie 50
yeah u can refill it
get a xxl mtn marker those r cooler and have better colors than the zig
better yet get an ultra wide marker off of art primo dot com

i had to ditch my oldschool shoe polish marker yesterday so i was in a hurry today and threw a marker together that didnt work out too bad.
1. Get an empty medicine bottle. I just went to the cabnit and pored some old pills into another bottle with the same meds.
2. Poor your favorite ink in (check ink recepie thread).
3. Find an old washcloth or sock. This'll be your nib. Make sure it's the puffiest cloth you can find so it'll retain mosture. You might be able to try a crappy sweater from grandma hah, but that might be a little too drippy. Then cut the cloth into a smaller shape that can cover the top of the medicine bottle plus about halfway down the sides [or more].
4. Place the cloth over and pull tightly. Then tape it tightly with electrical tape, or I'm sure ductape would work just as well.
5. Put it in a plastic bag and you should be all set, but I had trouble getting a clean tag, so i would suggest poking a few holes in the cloth to make the ink flow better.
peace
also, If your nib on your shoe pollish marker is fucked up you can try using the same method as above. I just put the cloth over the nib and tape it down to where the cap goes on.

your poblem may be the "penis" thing in the nib. it slows down the ink flow so u have to squeez like a mother fucker. I just took mine out, but it ended up being wayyy too messy, so right now i have a peice of washcloth taped with electric tape over the nib.

those zig markers are refillable, but replacement nibs are hard to get, and if you already used the stock ink with it then your nib is pretty much screwed. the tops twist off the opposite way that regular thread do, like right handed thread or something. i have a 30mm with flopen ink and 3 zig glue pens with ink or bombing paint (glue pens are the same as montana minis once you dump the glue out.)
those 50s are good for the tall electrical boxes that arent very wide to do verticle hands with mad drips if you use ink.
the best combo i have found for customzing store bought markers is a zig 2way glue 15mm nib with red bombing paint made by aerosol art. the stuff is super thin and opaque, but for some reason didnt flow as much as i wanted it to so i took a hobby knife blade and cut a bunch of grooves really deep into the nib to fix the bottlenecked base of it. now it works better on rough surfaces, and drips more.
also, i hate to say the same thing 500 times but the markal paint markers are crap. theyre free but the stock paint sucks because its waterbased and doesnt flow well.
even if you dont have access to otr or garvey inks you can still buy sanford ink from officedepot for 3 dollars or steal it to refill your marker. badaboom- you now have a fat nib marker that stains hard and flows good and it cost you less than 3 dollars.
^^montana dont make replacement nibs?u could just put a xxl replacement on it

i made a marker from a half a bottle of white leather restore or whatever, some silver automotive touchup paint, mineral spirits, oil, craft sand, a marble, and a foam brush:
WARNING, UNTESTED INK
Ingredients:
White Leather polish (Kiwi or Tana brush on)
Paint Thinner Or Alcohol
Silver Enamel Paint
Brake Fluid or other oil
Nut, bolt or marble
Foam brush for nib
Pour out about half of the polish (remove stock nib)
Add a few drops of paint thinner for drips
Add about a tablespoon of silver paint
Add a few drops of brake fluid
Put marble into container
Make a nib from the foam brush
I made this, I'll let you know ASAP if it works or not, its my recipe so its all trial and error (the ink seems to work fine so far, runny, drippy... takes a long time to dry though)

Why would you use paint thinner to thin the paint when your just going to add brake fluid to make it thicker? Seems like an unnecessary step.

Whuzup all...
I just have a few questions if anyone wants to help me out.
I just got a flowpen and a scrawl pen from OTR. Im not really feelin the flowpen too much, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get clean, controlled drips. The pump action, im finding is making it harder to make GOOD CLEAN controled drips, It kinda just drips wherever. Anyone who feels like mentoring and helpin me out, I will def. drop props on out here in FLA. Thanx.
I also as I said got a scrawl pen, which I like, but to me it just feels like an ordinary oil pastel, or any oil based chalk, and has the same problem as the forementioned products of chunking up and not writing "smooth" on rough surfaces which I thought was its intended purpose.
Thanks again for any help.

because that keeps it drippy, and brake fluid leaves a nice stain... if you only add brake fluid its not gona drip much
BRAINE
05-28-2006, 07:28 PM
so the flopen, just practice. its not gonna drip much if you write when you are not pushing the nib in all the way, so you can try to push harder on the nib where you want the drips to be (bottom of letters, etc) other than that juts practice how fast you move your hand and shit like that
scrawl pens are all like that. they write on concrete and stuff but theyre not gonna have buttery smooth lines unless its like 100 degrees outside and you use them perfectly
how much pressure you put when writing with them can vary how clean the lines are gonna be, alot of people push way too hard with those and with meanstreaks.
thats in theory though, because i have never used a scrawl pen, just streaks and markals and livestock markers (otr are basically livestock markers in tubes)

the break fluid is used to keep the ink wet longer.. this allows it to settle in on the surrface and stain b4 the drying process even begins..

The scrawl pen is workin real good now, I figured out its just all about what you write on with that.
So thanx.
I was thinin about doin a kiwi marker, any suggestions or help, can you control the flow by squeezing it, and can you make a big fat nib to do big stuff quick?

BRAINE
06-02-2006, 04:19 PM
yea plus kiwis come in alot of sizes, one size has a smaller ink area but the nib is like the size of stick deoderant, and thick so it probly expands alot when you push down. wallmart has a very large selection of them. the triangle nib ones are huge too but they dont really flow that good. you can always make a huge marker, or just use a fatcap and paint
ScryberOneR
06-02-2006, 04:28 PM
True that, Im really wanting a kiwi marker. The one with the deoderant stick sized nib sounds nice, hehehe. I thought that you had to replace the nib with the kiwis or is it just fill and go? Because I was gonna try to get a really fat nib to do some quickie , drippy throws with.
Yeah I love caps and paint, but I ride my local public transportation system to work and back and I work in an office, so I like havin big drippy markers and scrawl pens and oil based chalks for my daily commute ya know?

unscrew the top part. not the cap but the thing that is connected to the tube of the marker.
pop out the pump thing and pour the ink out. rinse out and add whatever ink you would like. then pop the pump thingy back on and screw the top on.
watch for the little glass marbles that are in the marker.

HOW TO REFILL A PILOT MARKER YOU FUCKING IDIOT
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unscrew the black plastic that is screwed onto the cannister, after you take it off you should see the felt inside, resoak it in ink.... easy screw it back on. now grab the marker and test it out on your eye, see some style.

Theyre not bad, 4 me, its just that theyre huge size and strong smell for easily removable ink, but its ok. I use it in open air not in buildings. just a tip ;)

magnums fade fast into a disgusting ugly purple color, they stink, theyre not refillable, theyre really really easy to clean off.
theyre good for toys, because your ink will fade away and one day you will either quit or be less toyish and be glad those tags are gone

I like the Kiwi shoe cleaner bottles cause it comes with a huge round nib and good for glass. Just get that and mix some ink any kind, I reccomend GROG becuase that shit is permanant all the way. Mainly on walls, cuz on glass it comes off i bit easy. Get some GROG online and tag some places around your school to get those janitors pis*ed off at you.

nail polish remover should be the last resource you go to to make with your ink.just use dot 3 brake fluid(just a dot) and fill in your kiwi.

Funny, store clerk swore it's not refillable but I've refill it twice already
Just grab pliers then twist until all glue is broken off around cap. Snap off cap, then
pour out that damn washable ink, be careful theres a marble inside it to help shake up the ink, keep it in there. Then fill with Marsh or your favorite ink. Re-cap by pushing cap until it snaps back on.
My local art supply store had them on clearance for 2 bucks. There normally about 5 bucks here.
Finish product, A Nice OTR.093 Tagstar Style Markie that's squeezeable for producing drips. ;)

I put ghetto krink into a zig woodcraft, but the paint looks a bit opaque and thin even when tested on paper. I noticed the original ink in the woodcraft seemed more watery like ink. Should i use marsh ink instead of krink for this marker, or should krink be reserved for mops?

pop the top off a felt tip marker opposite of nib
pull out inkholder thing
put wter in mouth, blow through inkthing
wash nib
soak inkthing in ur preffered ink
re-assemble it
cops shouldnt b as harsh if u get caught cuz it looks like a felt tip, which will come off next time it rains

ghetto krink is super fresh if you dont over thin it and you use it in a mop.
also, i found some rediculously cheap etch, like 12 or more fl oz for 5 dollars.
i wish i actually would use it, but i know i wont.
even though i have been told numerous times. i mixed white latex paint with acetone (paint thinner). the result was a big loaf of tofu. with some yello shit on top. lesson learned.
i fixed my purple mop's nib. sock+ducktape=new nib.
is it fine to thin latex paint with water? it seems that if it thins it, when it rains it will wash off. i'm going to try it but if anybody wants to tell me what's up, feel free.
Dens_One

Okay, latex paint is water based. When it is still wet, it can be washed right off with water. As it dries, the paint molecules get closer and closer together as the wated is evaporated out. When the paint is dry, all the water is out and the molecules all touch and become one big molecule. Then the paint cannot be removed by adding water. Latex paint is easily removed though, you can scratch it off with a fingernail.

BRAINE
06-14-2006, 06:15 PM
you buy a pilot, duh.
latex aint really that bad, it just doesnt flow good. you need good pigment acrylic ink (like in a posterman) to thin it and then it doesnt mix well, but its the only way to get it thin and keep opacity.
some latex dries really shitty though and can be peeled off in one fell swoop.
oil is definitely more permanent, and far better, but honestly its just as easy to clean when someone wants it off.

god damn does no one know anything these days.
first off for mail order, just try it out, life is about learning shit from expierence not from asking people on a website. secondly NO dont use sharpies, unless your using the paint marker kind and even then those suck anyway. if your broke, rack DECOcolors, these can be found just about anywhere and come in a million colors and are the best markers out there.
for a clean mop marker, either buy a pilot, or make a really thick glue pen mop.
BRAINE

or better yet, use a magnum, those are good for toys and kids.

or use chisel tip sharpies, its better than nothing, i geuss.
sharpies do suck for permanence, but who cares.

How did you mod it?
If you took the pump out then thats why it would be leaking just from putting it on a angle. Maybe the ink/paint is to thin?
To clean the nib just take off(or out depens on which kiwi you have) and rinse it out.
BRAINE
06-15-2006, 10:01 AM
if you take the flow valve out of the kiwi its gona be rediculously messy.
i have one with a very thin paint mix thats also very opaque, but it doesnt leak all over, it only drips if i squeeze while i write with it.
dont wash the nib out, it wont get hard if you keep the cap on, only if you leave it off or let it sit without use for months on end
also, if you use oil based paint the nib is gonna fall off within a month or so anyways because the glue gets eaten up. so just use it for like 10 million tags before it dies

you cap it wit another canister. then tape it together if your in for a mission. then jsut rip off tape and tag. but if ur using oilbased paint... you can grease the cap canister wit thinner so the nib wont stick to it and it can also act as a lube so the nib wont get transfered from th e canister wit all the paint to the cap canister.

dont use fire extinguishers. its hard to find the right kind to use, and usually real heads will beat you down for it. plus its way more heat that doing a tag or throw, definitely you dont get off with a warning and a paint siezure for that.
zigs and mtns are the same, just mtn has some different colors.
zig glue pens (broad, xtra broad, 50mm) are the same body as mtn mini's, so they are easy to fill with ink, and usually cheaper than buying mtn markers.
if you really want to use a fire extinguisher, just give up on the idea, and use a super soaker. same concept, but alot easier. also i do not recommend either if you are a toy as you may or may not get beat down by ill writers. (probably will)

i had a new idea; get a few of those little sponges used for arts and crafts, bring a little bottle of ink/thinned paint with you, dip the sponge in the paint, it makes some really nasty lines, and however thick you want. i guess its just equivilant to having a good ol' mop, but you have total control over what color you want and it just feels good to rub it around instead of holding a bulky marker.
G-RAF
06-18-2006, 02:03 AM
youd rather get ur hands dirty wit paint from sponge thn hold a fat marker?
and i think u guys are probly thinkin bout a portable pressure washer kinda thing..kike it pumps right?
dcite
06-18-2006, 04:13 PM
your hands dont get dirty at all as long as you just dip the sponge in paint not soak it. give it a try you may be surprised at the quality of the lines.
that sounds like a good idea, but when you think about it, it is the equivalent to bringing a paint brush and a bottle of paint.
that would be like doing a piece with a brush, a whole pallete, and a beret. well not really, but you get my drift.

Hey I got this eraser and I was wondering if it's the right stuff for making a marker, it's got like carpet feeling stuff on the top with like a rubber thing underneath. what bit of it do i use to make a marker?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/surfgrommit/1013bd26.jpg
I have never made a marker before so can someone help me by posting pictures of how to put the felt stuff on the end

06-20-2006, 03:20 AM
you dont use the whole eraser. rip/cut the felt strips off it. My favorite marker is made out of a huge glue stick that is seal so it doesn't leak in like a deo-stick might. aquire your container of choice which can be anything you want as long as it doesn't leak. to check for leaks fill it w/ water and shake it around if it leaks toss it if not dry it out n us it. put the felt strips in neatly so that the tip is flat like a regular marker. dont pack the felt too tight or the ink my not flow well. next get you ink and load that thing till its juicy and cant take anymore. you gan use an eyedropper to load your ink. (IMPORTANT)while working w/ ink wear latex gloves so you dont get it on your hands and make sure i doesn't leak on the carpet or whatever. store homemade markers upright in a ziplock bag and always keep them juicy.
hope this helps.
btw.-that eraser is beat up i suggest getting a new one

ahh thanks i tried what u said and just used it in my container with a=water and it worked pretty good, like if it was ink it would of cam out mad but the water drips to easily thats all. now all i need to do is make some ink

06-20-2006, 03:35 AM
if it leaks AT ALL do not use it. it will leak all over your hands, cloths and pack. also before you put any ink in it all of the water needs to be taken out or it will make you tag look like shit from water spots. use a deoderant stick or UHU glue stick

Yeah. I hate markers that leak. Also markers that gives a lot of ink at one time. Because when you make a fast move the ink will fly al around (so also on your clothes, shoes, hands or whatever).
And when somebody sees you with that ink al over you body i gues they think: ''What did you do because you've got ink all over your body?''

?? well im assuming he was spining the damn thing w/o a cap.. cuz yeh that way all teh ink/paint will be allover the place.. if u had the cap ull just uncap that upside down so all the excess paint/ink would be in ur cap. if upopen it right side up, the excess would spill to your hands.
bsaically this is mostly done to stock markers but yeh.. its done to squeeze whuts left of the dying marker..

O ok. I also have al that shit in my cap. But i just wash my cap everytime i come home. And i put a little Bit of toilet paper in the cap (Not to much cuz than it's connecting with the marker and suck the ink out of the marker and not from the sides of the cap)

I want to fill it with a light pasteled colored ink, thats not to thin and watery but slow drying and perm. I want it to leave a ghost to if buffed and burn into the surface. I want like a teal-purple color so if you have a decent recipie let me know please. Or whats a good ink to buy and a link.

this isnt a chat room. take it to the pm's, msn's, email's, aim's, whatever you need to do to keep from chit chatting in here.
seriously, there are at least 4 chat threads on this board, find one and jump in with your useless comments or dont post at all, but quit fucking up good threads.
same goes for the ink thread, same 2 or 3 people fucked that up in the last week so there is like 4 or 5 pages of useless shit with nothing helpful ink or marker related.
and magic, if you really think that is the best marker ever, you have a serious problem, not to mention the fact that markers aint shit.
yea, im real interested in inks and markers and i have wayy too many of both, but i dont flaunt it like some fag. seriously markers arent shit. tags are ups no doubt, but its still just a marker tag.
and if you have a dumb comment or question about somebody elses retarded post, please PM them. we dont need a whole page of comments explaining that NO, he didnt have a spray paint cap on his marker, or NO you dont juice up markers inside your house if you care about it.

The homemade one suck.
BRAINE
06-25-2006, 09:54 PM
huh? i dont know what youre talking about.
if you are referring to what i posted, none of them are homemade. theyre all modified versions of things you can find in stores.
anyways, im not saying i have the best markers ever or anything, but its not like markers are hard to get or expensive. home made mops are great, but what is the point in making a lot of home made markers when theyre all the same, i have alot but theyre all specific. some are for drips of certain colors, some are for clean of certain colors, some are both. lots of colors. streaks in many colors. many widths of nibs, many that i can carry around all day without worrying about them leaking inside my pants.
anyways, i just ordered the OTR version of a pilot in purple, grog, and an untra wide.
i cant wait for them to come. im gonna mix grog and secret ingredients to tint it slightly, and im gonna use the rest of it to refill the otr when it gets low.
thats how my pilot is, started black but i have refilled it with like 3 types of ink and now its a very deep violet. i like it.
and i have a half grey half pastel blue streak. i love it, the dye job i did was messy so the colors come out real swirly, not like when you split them.
anyone have an ultrawide?
i heard mixed reviews about them. pm me if you have one and you have no life like me
and magic, the pink zigns marker has homemixed candy in it. if you want the recipe, give me five dollars in unmarked bills
