it's easier than that rogue.

1) Mold clay to size and shape you need, but a hair smaller - so it would be a negative mold of the cap (eg, the inside of the cap.)

2) Melt plastic over clay mold.

3) you now have a cap.

molding from negatives is neat.

how do you melt plastic without burning it? i thought of doing it, but im not sure how to safely approach it...

Use a low heat. Like melting a crayon..

And I hear posca's are good for their nibs and body. Not much else more.

CRN-one
08-31-2007, 06:17 PM
well, I have two awesome things for melting plastic

1) acetalyne torch with a "loose" tip (eg big red/orange flame, not blue/white cutting flame)

2) heat gun

the heat gun is a leftover from when I used to install car alarms and stereos, it was for stretching vinyl, adhering carpet glue, bending ABS, etc. Works awesome.

The torch is for plumbing, and that takes a skilled hand to use for melting plastic. Mostly it'll burn the fuck outta anything it touches. Lotta fun, that one.

lacking a heat gun or torch, I'd say use a candle. it'll take longer but what you want if you use fire is a loose, low temp flame - orange/yellow/red flame, not blue. more oxygen, less potential energy.

You could also hold it over the eye of your Oven... May be uncomfortable to your hands and such but it would work just as well..

CRN-one
08-31-2007, 06:21 PM
yeah, but you run the risk of melting the plastic onto the valve that the gas comes out of.

granted you have to be "special" in a mental sort of way to do that, seeing as how it'd take a straight moron to put the plastic that close, but idk about some of the people here, man. telling them to use their stove for anything harder than making ramen is asking for trouble ;)

I've seen Step Bi Step. Directions for ramen = special ed level.

Try thinning it out more, or your nib is clogged up. Take it out, remove the pump valve and have a look.
OR go get a new nib.

I'd suggest replacing the nib.. You might have good results.

Like I said, some dauber nibs are compatable with other daubers of different sizes. The super mop I made is a great example of just that.

The original dauber that the fabric nib went to was only about 60 ml and it fits the 112 ml dauber I now use.

SICK RESULTS.

GO TO THE ART STORE, GET SOME OTHER DAUBERS WITH CLOTH NIBS AND FIND ONE COMPATABLE IN SIZE TO THE CURRENT BODY YOU ARE USING.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
You would know that if you had read, but that would mean you would have to do some work but you want this shit handed over on a silver platter don't you?

I do not know if you are using 3/4" nibs like I am but from looking at this nib, the stirofoam was placed in while the plastic was still hot and before the plastic cooled, they folded over the plastic all around, locking in the foam..

Your situation has inspired me to make video tutorials for modifying things of this sort, as well :)

Here's a pic to show what I am talking about..
The foam is locked in there because in the factory, the plastic, while still hot, was folded over and locked that foam in there. so I can not really think of any way to replace it without it somehow going wrong and the replacement material falling out..

Something that workes for me is taking a tinny ass screw driver and slowy folding the lip back up. Then I take the foam out and and replace it with a round piece of sock. Then curl the lip back around with the screw driver, if that made any sence at all. It works fairly well, for being made by me

I appreciate the posts, guys, made my day..

Kruxos,I wish I had known you might want some, I had four with the same nib but a different body and I threw the four that I had away.........

EDIT: I left out a key piece of info on the nib....

The black piece of cloth seen here with the foam nib needs to but put back in when you put the sock cloth in there, It helps with leaks and such. It's a required piece of material, if you ask me...
EDIT AGAIN: Just line it up with the sock cloth and mash it in along with the sock like it shows in the pics...
ENJOY :)

Sorryf or the shitty pics, but I found a micheals the other day and stopped in and got a couple things But im just posting the markers. There pretty badass I like them. I got a black one, and they had silver ones but they were used and the nib was fucked, so I bought a wood stain marker and filled it with silver. Still working on it. But I like them. Trying them out tonight.

Some paint dripped out of the silver one, but sorry for the blurryness again.
And it was funny walking into the store and seeing all the ladys and other people looking at threads and paints and then the art marker and paint section was filled with writers. I mean I didn't ask but you could just tell.

i leave myne in. if i dont the ink/paint leaks straight threw the marker and nothin stops it. ive taken it off a kiwi and i just tip it over and its already spilling. made lots of messes that way =[. thats why i leave it in.

The green thing you see in the Kiwis is just a pump valve, basically. It keeps the ink, or whatever is in there, from leaking through the mop.
Once you push the nib against the wall, the valve is pushed back, releasing the ink, or paint, into the nib and once you squeeze, you overflow the nib, thus inducing drips.

Ohhh the Science of markers.
To answer your question, I leave my valves in my mops.

I replaced the spongy nib thing on my dabber according to red alerts instructions.
I did it a little differently though, instead of folding the lip back like he suggested, i just stuck a knife in there and dug it out, that way the lip isn't possibly weaker.
Then I used a small piece of sponge wrapped in a piece of sock as the nib, just use the knife again to push the sock into the lip.
It looks as though it was made that way, thanks red alert, just what I was looking for. :)

C'MON PEOPLE! Its the same as a deo mop. And the opening is not that big, bout the size of that button on the monitor. CRN is right, just use a screwdriver to pop out, not cut, the ball, and make a mop out of it.

Speaking of zigs - for those who haven't opened one yet, the 2 way glue comes apart same as an OTR - spring and valve are one piece. The Woodcraft, or at least all of mine - have an open spring and valve setup. It's a couple pieces. Be extra careful not to lose the spring or the piece that sits in it. That would suck.

Code_sucht

The marker did not leak from the threads, the nib is just so far out there is leaks from around the base of it..
That is why I said you'd have to push the nib all the way down..
All in all, the marker was not worth my time because it would find a way, some how, to leak in my bag and that is just not a problem I am all that willing to deal with...

Thanks for the props, guys :)

CRN-one
09-08-2007, 11:58 PM
^^^first of all, what kind of ink? a zig is the same as any other pump valve marker, otr or molotow or whatever - so just about any ink should work.

Maybe your ink is streaky because it's not a good ink?

Also, are you really using ink or are you using thinned paint? thinned paint tends not to work in those markers.

0lick
09-09-2007, 12:12 AM
i suggest either stabbin holes in ur nib "more ink flow." or maby your ink is to thick

Daydreamer.
09-09-2007, 01:44 AM
an eazzy thing to do is buy one of those lemon juice containers, get 3 oil pastels of the same color. melt the pastels till they very liquidy. then pour the liquid into the container. add some thinner or 90% alcohol. then add i tiny bitt of white glue (the shit that the tiny kids like eating that you can buy for school supplies) drop a marble or tiny bead in it and shake itlike crazy. let it rest for a while(I.E. five-ten min.) then stick on a piece of a white board eraser on to the of the container, dcut tape it so its on tght. find like a shamppoo bottle top,
and terdaa. you have your own sqeezer marker:)

Code_sucht
09-09-2007, 02:22 AM
The reason for his nib being streak may have something to do with the surface he is writing on, as well.

I suggest he be more specific about the "ink" he is using, though..

My zigs never streak?

it says zig on the side. it's a zig 2 way that some jackass mislabeled.

I saw the widetips at the art store, they're the same handle and valve with a different head. Looks ok, but I don't trust the cap. It's little more than a flimsy sleeve that sits on top of the nib.

Fine for glue, bad for ink...

zig makes alot of money. its the people who are trying to sell them who dont make money. the zig company sells them to a store. and that store has to pay a certain price for the markers. then the store sells the markers at thier own price..so in reality....zig is really loosing anything. =D

i wouldnt search around for a pen though
i mean most of the time when anyone looks for glue
you can get a huge bottle like 8 oz or 12 oz for like 2 bucks
a fucking glue pen costs like 7 bucks (where i am may vary for you) and prolly doesnt even have half of the amount
but idk

anybody seen the pentel roll on glue pen??
if not google it and check em

cut it short and stuff it with a marker nib (old zig nib or something)
