Ive been playing with the Marsh 99 lately with bullet nib. Can I cut the nib about 30% down to make it similar to the chisel nib. because the bullet nibs lines are way to thin. Its a really good marker but it deffinetly needs some thicker lines.

I don't own a marsh 99 but I'll take a guess and say probably. If it's solid mohair or felt or some other fabric, it shouldn't change too much about it cutting it. but I'd check first and see if it's solid, because if it's hollow or something similar, it's gonna cause problems. Also take into account that if you cut it too short, it may be hard to get out later.

well the reason I ask is because the nib is screwed onto the marker. In the center of the nib is a brass piece which is how it threads onto the marker. I just don't know how far it extends into the nib. It is a pretty tough Nib but i know that if I cut it to close to the brass piece it will cause the brass to scrape across the writing surface eventually fucking up the marker and thats what i am trying to avoid.

what i did was take an old ZIG posterman (woodcraft) cut it off near the top so that i still had the threads. i remade the bottom half in shop class, i took a peice of metal about the size of the marker, heated it up and diped it into this liqued plastic stuff and waited for it to cure and harden up abit, then when it was finshed i took it off the metal and it was like rubber, so then i glued it onto the woodcraft. this is a DOPE mop, if you want drippy tags, if you have access to the stuff i used.

i took one of those, cut a hole in the bottom, emptied it. filled it with ink. duct tape the bottom. works real nice.

when you out of ink. cut a hole thru the duct tape and fill, then retape i guess.

Uni-Posca's are awsome markers. The nibs will last you forever like a Pilot nib would. Just open it like you would a zig, and refill.

careful with zig 2-in-ones - I never had this problem with woodcrafts, just the smaller glue pens - occasionally you get one where the threads are mildly warped, and after you fill it with ink and use it, it pisses ink all over your hand from the threading. It's hard to notice before it happens because it tightens up and sits right but the threads aren't thick enough so it seeps up and out the cracks.

I even tried wrapping the thing with tape after tightening the nib on but that doesn't help, alcohol based inks seem to go right past electrical tape adhesive. ;)

this could be a bad batch in my local area as all the ones I have that are doing this came from the same store, but I figured I'd put it out there so nobody else spends a week scrubbing blue ink off their palms.

I run a plumbing company. I have tons of teflon tape. Teflon tape won't work because the specific alcohol I'm using as a base breaks it down fairly quickly. Trust me, I've tried.

My solution has been to use "dum-dum" - that's the industry nickname for Solid Silicon Strip Caulking... we used it in the 12volt industry to seal holes made for running wires through the firewall and such. It's basically silicon caulk that comes in strips instead of a tube, and it's not quite as sticky and always remains the same consistency. You can peel it off a year later and use it again.

I put that around the threads before locking the nib down and that works well, but eventually the ink will find it's way out and I have to replace the dum-dum...

I should just stick with woodcrafts haha.

wrap electrical tape around the crack where the body and the knob meet. then layer up a few usps stickers in layers that stretch from the line where the cap stops, all the way over the bottom of the knob. just keep layering them until you have a good solid seal. if the cap fits kinda loose, just wrap a thin layer of electrical tape around the inside of the cap. i cut a strip out of a pair of old, hole-filled, cotton boxers. folded it in half, and then rolled it up. used a small piece of a usps sticker wrapped around the side of the "nib" to hold it together while i filled the mop. fill the mop with whatever ink, cram the nib in. (leave the stick inside in-place, it keeps the nib from falling inside). i then trimmed the nib down to a size that was manageable and a smoother surface. then i stabbed the hell out of the nib. put the cap on, turned it upside down and shook it like a bitch. took the cap off, and it was good

for about an oz. of ink, i got about 30-35 tags and some accent-ish things to a few throwies...

took about 10 minutes and was just scraps i had laying around my room.


i have bad luck with them glue stick markers. the cap and the nib are so close togather "when you begin to close it" that it squeezes the nib and starts drippin ink everywhere.

For the hell of it, know an eyedropper mop/marker has been posted before but I think this ones smaller. Filled it up with pilot ink.
No streaks, writes very well. :)
Holds .2 of an ounce of ink, has lines roughly the size of a deco, can make it drip if you want, no drips if you don't want them.

It tells you to throw away the cap and screw top....

It'e easier if you remove the cotton, keep or replace the nib, fill, screw on top, done.

The Pilot mod is a bit redundant, as pointed out by Rogue.

Somebody try ripping out the filling (cotton) filling it with nothing but ink, but before doing all of that, be sure you wet the threads on both the metal body and nib pretty damply with elmers glue, once body is filled with ink, screw cap back on, and proceed to keep tip up at all times and fill the gap between the body and cap with elmers, sealing it up.



Although another Idea could be to just leave all of the cotton in, fill it with ink, to the point to where the cotton can no longer absorb it.. Then seal up the threads as stated, and twist cap back on...

I'd recommend keeping stored tip up, for mess-free reasons until you go out..
Keep stored in a plastic bag as well, for extra protection..

but thats a quick easy fix
by adding another sponge ring under the nib
you ll see it
if you unscrew the nib area
also i have recently fallen in love

atom: the ones I had with the bad threads leaked from the nib as well. they were just a mess. to fix the leaking from the nib, I replaced that foam ring with a ring cut from the top of a foam paint brush (the black foam wedge on a stick, 20 for 3 bucks at michaels). Works great.

Ink is shit, dump out and fill with ink recipe or GK that I have thinned out for pump markers.
Tested and used so dont tell me it wont work in pump markers, you fucks.

i had a shoepolish mop last week, and i was taggin some trucks with it....btw i have to say the grog i put in it was terrible. but anywho after like 10 tags my nib started to fallout, and then it did and ank got all over my hands, so i chucked it at a truck that i didnt tag yet and it was like the biggest ink explosion all over that thing. I think im going to order one of those Moltow markers tonight, im open to suggestions...green or pink. cuz i already have a neon violet OTR coming in the mail.

Find a dauber, not a mop. Daubers are much better but you would be better off making sure you find a fabric nib, as apposed to a foam nib.


Foam nibs on daubers are streaky, noisy, and annoying.

Step one.
Take out valve... As seen here (the blue thing)

Step two.
This is what the basic dauber nib will look like...

Step three.

Use a lighter to mildly heat up one small portion of the edge, as seen here.
Use a small tipped flat head screw driver to push that flap back, quickly after you have softened it with heat..
Then dig some needle nose pliars in there and pull that sponge out of there.
Some of them, like this one, will have a cloth of some sort under neith the foam itself. You want to be sure and keep that cloth..

Step Three. Continued.

Here you can see the cloth I was referring to. In this particular brand of dauber, the cloth is black. It may not be the same for yours, if it even has a cloth, but if it does, you want to be sure to keep this cloth.

Step Four. Sizing up the replacement Material..

Once you have removed the foam material, you may find a sock to be the most abundant, and easily replaceable material to use for the nib.
Once you have the foam from the original nib in your hands, you want to lay it over a section of the sock (in this case the toe of the sock) and outline it with a dark marker. Be sure to get the outline as accurate as possible.

Step Five.

Cut out with Scissors.
This is where your kindergarten class skills come into play.

Step Six.

Once you have the material (the sock) sized up, you want to take the plastic and your lighter, along with the small flathead screw driver and soften up the edge, one segment at a time and use your screwdriver to fold the lip outward.
Once you do that, hold it in place with the screw driver and give it a few blows to cool it down and hold it in place on its own.

Step Seven.

Once you have done that with all of the edges around the nib, you want to take that cloth I spoke of before and lay it in the opposite side of whichever side you choose to use for a nib on the sock and place the cloth and the sock back on the nib and use your screw driver to shove this sock and cloth back in, all around the nibs edge, firmly.
Once doing so, you want to take your lighter and Heat it up once again, one segment at a time and take the screw driver and fold the small segments back over, onto the sock fabric, pushing the lip of the heated part back over and down against the sock material, locking it in place..

Step Eight. Completion.


As you can see with this particular nib, I did not heat it and fold it outward, all around, I simply stuffed the sock into it, as hard as I could and then heated it all around, pushing the plastic down into and against the sock, locking it in place..

You may find the result to be similar to teeth marks..

I just made a glue stick/scrawl pen thing.

I swiped a white oil paint stick from the art store (saved me $7 I didn't have) and an empty glue stick that I swiped from school.

Just clean out the glue wash the case, keep the little plastic thing that holds the glue.Then attach a piece of the oil stick to the base and screw it on slowly so it doesn't break.


if you have fingers and any sorta low range Patience you can do it.It writes wide, its pretty permanent, and its fun.

Think about it, kid, if you take out the pump in the OTR flowpen, what will keep that nib from being pushed threw the head of the marker and falling into the body?

The pump is spring loaded and keeps that nib in place, thats why it returns to its original place once you push it in, the spring pushes it back up.

It's a simple mod, has to do with adjusting the spring pressure to make the tip release more with less effort. Results in heavier drips.

It's not a magical super elite ubermod that will have your marker spitting out stencil-drippy-x's but it's still helpful.

I busted up my first zig making this mistake.

Zig's turn backwards. You need to turn them CLOCKWISE to loosen and COUNTERCLOCKWISE to tighten.

Right to loosen, left to tighten.

I destroyed the housing on my first zig with a pair of channellocks, and my dad looks at it and goes "let me see" and turns it the opposite way with his bare hands and it comes off no problem. I was pissed. Haha

Love your Zig but hate that the tiniest bit of pressure on the nib forces it to spurt out ink like it's having it's period? I can fix that. *evil grin*

Step One: Disassemble Marker.

Enough said.

Step Two: Disassemble pump valve assembly.

You might need a thin piece of metal or a knife for this, but slide it under the disc on the top of the pump valve (where the tube is) and pull up gently. The top will come off of the cone. Be careful not to lose the spring.

Step Three: Remove Spring.

Step Four: Cut spring.

I cut 2 or 3 rings off the springs I did this to, and I noticed a major difference. Cut too much and you'll ruin the marker until you get a new spring. Cut too little and you won't notice a damn thing.

Step Five: Replace Spring, Reassemble Pump Valve Assembly.

The purple lines are where I wrote. If I wrote without pressure or pressed slightly (like you would if you accidentally pressed too hard on the wall), it doesn't drip or drips very lightly. If you depress the tip completely, it purges ink like a chick with an eating disorder getting rid of her dinner.

In conclusion, yeah, this mod might be somewhat pointless, but for people who like a nice clean line, it helps get that control when your hand isn't talented enough to not jab the wall like a retard.

So the Pilot working is done, somewhat

Still some testing to go through and all but I decided that these will go up for sale soon, depending on the feed back and number of people that want one.

I held the marker nib against the paper, in place so you can see it bleeding on the paper..
If you order one when I release them, the nibs will all be new, unfrayed, and all blacks will be soaked with my ink recipe. All markers are refillable and will come with instructions on how to do so.

only problem is that both sides of the marker are the same. so u never know if its upside down or right side up. could cause a mess thats not needed. but i guess u can easily fix it by marking the right side top with a sticker or somethin.

True, I will make a mark on the Lid side so you can Identify which side is which


A mark being taking a few noches off the ridges on one side, adding grip and identifying the cap.

Before anyone wants to complain about the price, think about the time and effort I put into this. They cost me as well. Tools, drimmels, sealants, and the markers themselves..
Each marker takes me about twenty minutes to make. So if you wanna whine about it, keep it to yourself, please.

good job with ur markers man =] but. im puttin on my asshole hat and...i respect the fact that your trying to make it as cheap as possible but then the cheapest is 9 bucks. personally to me id rather buy 4 pilots and try to mod them myself. your pictures show how it looks lol. or ill just buy other markers like molotov and such. but hey every buisness starts somehwere. if your serious about your monster minis you should try to make a deal with other companys. try getting items on wholesale. ull get mad discounts and youll be gaining more money to get more markers made. =] owell good luck with your buisness man. if you ever need anythin ill hapily try to help =]

The metal casing is used, in a sense..
but I hang onto them. Will probably find a use for them somewhere down the road.
