I have always found the pentels in Hobby lobby (of which I'm banned from now)
Unless it's in another city..

But the thick, short body pentels are decent if stored tip down.. other than that, I've never been stoked with them..

Cleaning out the sharpie body is going to be a necassary thing to do, just don't do it with water because if we are talking about the same marker here, the contents inside are oilbased..

I know it's not the Trade thread but thought it was relevant.

Psssst, hey boys and girls!

Haven't been in here for a while and thought I would stop by and put a few of you guys on a small and enjoyable task. Xylene based paints are amazing, they thin the paint well without losing the opacity and are cheap to make. Why doesn't everyone use xylene in their mops? Well thats because it eats through mops like pacman on big dots. So my question for you is how would one be able to make a xylene based mop that doesn't wear out? Please note I have said mop and not marker. Also posted this in the ink section.

xylene really doesnt eat away fast at all, so if u use a thicker mop you'll be good for a year or so w.o. leaks.
or you coudl do the research and see what plastics it doesnt eat through, look at the plastic containers that nalgene makes, and see what type of plastic.

SloppySeconds
12-17-2008, 05:48 PM
there's different types of plastic, for example:
HDPE, LDPE... Look on the bottom of some bottles or mops, it generally has a 4 letter combo telling you what type of plastic it is. If you can find out the type of plastic that is used in the Nib portion of markers, which is generally harder, gloss plastic, then you might find a good bottle/marker barrel that won't be eaten by the Xylene.

Contact the guy at Illadel. I talked to him before on 12oz about empty mops and his price was lower than that, but the quantity was high. Emailing him on his site or through his name on here would probably be easiest.

Care to share what product you are referring to? I know there are sponge tipped ones, but I can't recall seeing anything with teh mohair.

And to Sloppy 2nds, thank you. I'm sure they would be cheaper if a graff type person with a good supplier was willing to get rid of a descent qty. of empties. The ones I found have a product in them and would have to be emptied and refilled with ink. I'm sure the empty ones have to cost at least $.50 less a piece. And of course, as it always is, the more you get the cheaper they is. Thanks for the tip about Illadel. I will add points to your graffiti score.:D

My friend runs the Trout Art Supply website. He's working on some new marker/mop hybrids that he let me test out. They are 2oz/4oz squeeze bottles with screw on felt tip nibs. There's no valve and its free flowing depending on how hard you squeeze the bottle. They're gonna have a few different sized nibs too, 10mm, 15mm round and/or rectangle nibs, maybe larger sizes as well, (all specially made). Much like a spray can, you can switch out the tips by swapping out the screw on tops for different sized nibs. Pretty sick...here's a flick of a 2oz "Marp" (marker/mop combo) with a 10mm nib and a test tag that was done with it on a plastic storage container lid:

QUESTION- (if you joined BS like a week ago and never even made a marker, please stfu and let someone else answer the question.KTHNX;))

I made a mop outta a travel size hairspray bottle and used old school eraser felt for the nib. I added ink, not paint, but the nib barely saturates, even when I squeeze, it takes forever to get a solid flow. What am I doing wrong? Is eraser felt too thick? The ink isn't..

Yo Hett! I know you readin this shit! Drop that knowledge son!

H3TT1NG3R
12-28-2008, 01:30 PM
did u put cotton in the bottle? it shouldnt be an open resivoir for teh ink unless you have a valve.
but i havent had good luck with capillary action markers, so just make sure tehres cotton in it, and keep adding ink until the cotton doesnt absorb anymore.
then like dip the nib in ink or drip ink on it
put the nib in and let it sit on its side
then tip it upsidedown for liek 30 seconds, then you should be good

H3TT1NG3R
12-28-2008, 01:37 PM

So I was walking down the street the other day, right?
I looked in my backpack and I looked at my marker ate through the cap. I think I either tightened it too tight, or the ink recipe weakened the strength in the plastic.

But anyways, back to what i was saying............................................ ...................
I find that a Sharpie jumbo (chisel tip style) marker with a pump system is the best for ink. Just clean it out and fill that mother up. You can always rack nibs to replace them after you demolish it on whatever

SNAP!

but otherwise.. sharpie "professional" chisels are the way to go...some good ink in that shit

Anyone with a half decent intelligence can clearly see this thread is mainly for the use of innovations, modifications, and innovative methods to improving your marker or one you may be looking into purchasing.

It is not that we, as the writers who know what we are doing, do not know what marker to use, it is that we want to know the what, when, where, and why of a "marker." We will post about a marker and a way to make it better, thus worth racking. (or buying if you are a bitch)
But, to focus in on the point I am making, we are initially making a post either answering a question, or asking one.

What we, however, do not need is a dumb fuck, such as yourself, making a post criticizing us, or an induvidual, about what we are doing in a marker thread.

I'm sure you're doing just fine rocking red pilot's on stop signs. (to quote typical cats :))
