in my opinion a portfolio should contain 15-20 completed pieces
that you have created and finished within the last 2 years....ur most recent works

even though i make most my work off my head... i dont have a lot of still life..
but trust me it is essential to have atleast 3-5 in your portfolio....
even if your a ill graffiti artist... or abstract kind of artist...
jobs, schools will appreciate and like the fact that you try different things/ideas..
even using different mediums.
i was looking to get into joe kubert school in pa. sometime ago and they preffered
still life over my own type of character art and choice of work...
they told me it was because they want us to start from scratch and build using their methods and techniques... non the less...

having a sketch book seperate as ONE piece in your portfolio also helps 2...

it is a good idea to look professional even if your a sloppy pig...
showing your best work has to look fresh and clean....

throw all types of works...... sculptures CANVAS'S wood etchings, etc...

anything else anyone can throw in here to help others put together a better portfolio to pass jobs and school interviews without a doubt in their minds?

and oh yeah join the character battle below... lol

why do you keep on making threads??

wait a bit
get your post count up

think up something valid
and then MAYBE
make a thread

but all of your threads have just been a few statements
and you expect others to build on them or something

just stop

A portfolio is a good thing to have if you want to make something of yourself as an artist trying to get into an art school or even for clients to look at. If you're portfolio has 20 pieces of graffiti blackbook drawings then you'll find your doors of opportunity tend to close.
Most graffiti artists don't want to be art fags but in reality if you really like art including graffiti then utilize that skill obtained on the street and focus it into a more commercial market. Art fags have a better chance of making a career in the art field whether its commercial, advertising, animation, etc. and writers that never persue any schooling tend to drop off. If you really love graffiti, use it as a stepping stone to a fulfilling life in the art field.
