ye stick it down on to the cardboard- there are loadsa other things to use aswell like thin foam or laminate it. Also if u want clean cuts hold ur knife like a pen. Wen ur spraying and want clean lines buy some spray adhesive (repositionable) its the bees knees! or wack on a washing up glove and hold down the area ur spraying.
Banksy is a truely amazing guy but dont forget he has being doing this for years. ur first stencils are gona come out not so good but just carry on. U will get there!!

Stencils... gotta love your stencils. As for materials, my first stencil was cut out of thin foam, ive since used cardboard, thick paper, plastic sheeting and a peice of paper with a layer of duct tape( dont try this). Foam and cereal box cardboard are my favourites, but i think that thin plastic sheeting is the best.
i cut long cuts with a stanley or breakaway knive, and detailed bits with a scalpel thinger. Xacto, thats what it is...

and i normally lay my image(on paper) over the top, and trace the edges with a hard ball point, this leaves an impression on the soft card, which u then fill in with your marker and cut, or just sketch it strait on to the card.

i found that those kinda cardboardy signs they use for voting, and selling houses are the best kinds of materials to use, to cut out stencils.
just look at other peoples work and find some inspiration man

if you want to make stencils find a picture in black and white on google then copy and paste it onto to photoshop or somethingand put the contrast at 100% print it then cut out the black parts. Simple as that.:eek:

ive made pretty detailed stencils on photo paper. what i do is, cut my shit out on the photopaper, then make a cardboard frame, and duct tape the stencil to the frame, this makes for easy lifting off the surface without smearing paint, and it wont rip or anything:/

also, I use matte board, the same kind used in picture framing places... stop by a local shop and ask if they have any scrap matte board laying around, I have a collection of hundreds, various sizes, etc. It's harder to cut but it's harder to break and it doesn't curl, cardboard isn't very reusable after a few tags but this stuff is great. also, I have to agree, I just signed up but I'm a little worried, I too hate stupid questions but I think we need to give everyone a chance, he may not only be new at taggin' & stencils but web forums too.

Most of my stencils are drawn in my sketchbook and then scaled to fit whatever size i want, but if you want to go off PS then you can find many tutorials the main thing to remember is (convert to black and white, adjust brightness & contrast, gaussen blur filter & cut-out filter) voila!

but if youre lookin for a one-time-use stencil, you can just use computer paper.

but for the computer paper use like wheatpaste or glue to hold the stencil down. the spraypaint will raise the paper and make it more prone to overspray.
