Who is Bozo Texino? is a film on the 100-year-old tradition of hobo and railworker graffiti. The project is the result of a 20-year study of "monikers " and is fabricated from hours of 16mm and super 8 film, most of it shot on freight trips across the western US. The film includes interviews with some of the railroad&#39;s greatest graffiti legends: Colossus of Roads, The Rambler, Herby (RIP) and the granddaddy of them all, Bozo Texino. The film also catches some of the socioeconomic history of hobo subculture from its roots after the Civil War to the present day. Included are interviews with tramps that Daniel encountered in his travels. The range of the interviews, and the film&#39;s style deal with both the clichés and the harsh realities of tramp life. In researching hobo culture Daniel found the written histories fraught with myth, and was initially frustrated by the apparent lack of verifiable truth to much of the lore.

"At some point in the research, and in the filming, I had to give up on the idea of being able to tell every story down to the detail. One of my initial impulses was to create a highly resolved document that would allow people in the future to see exactly what this culture was like. Impossible enough. Why do you all bother about freights... They suck really. You need to do hundreds of pieces to get spotted like 10 times in 1 year. And I said PIECES. Getting spotted 10 times in a year is not even once a month...

And most of ya&#39;ll paint each cars like they&#39;re all one and the same. Yet some are vintage cars from companies that don&#39;t exist anymore, or cars you rarely see in your part of the continent. You got the brand new cars with fresh paints, special paint jobs and such...
It&#39;s an entire world to itself with codes and messages.

To get noticed you need to put your life into this. Painting hundred of pieces a year is one every 3 days. One year isn&#39;t enough you need to do this for years&#33; You don&#39;t wanna get caught either and there&#39;s good chances you will if you don&#39;t know much about workers, work shifts and bulls...

Your tags and hollows won&#39;t make much change in your "graff career". Leave it alone and let it shine on it&#39;s own.

I have about 40 pics I&#39;ll upload tonite and those will be the last freights you&#39;ll see from me in a while. I got caught in the yards today. Luckily, I saw them before they saw me, so I was able to ditch all my shit. They were going to charge me with trespassing, but I told them the railroad workers see me up here all the time (bullshit) and never say anything, so they let me off. I just can&#39;t go back. Not for a while, anyway. Though I did get pic of the cops right as they were pulling away lol. It&#39;s a horrible pic and you can barely make out the cop car, but I&#39;ll post them tonite.

I don&#39;t get how some people view freights as some sacred thing that shouldn&#39;t be defiled by the evil toys, theres millions of cars out there and you can paint over their shoddy little outlines anytime if you can burn them.

I say let them paint the trains as long as they don&#39;t go over: the numbers, good writers, freight history, or tag the yards

or act stupid and get seen painting, forget a can at the spot, drip paint on the ground next to the car, paint the most obvious car of the yard, over paint a small lay-up... and so on until they burn someone else&#39;s spot.

They might not want to do so, but that kind of stuff happens when you don&#39;t know crap.
