Do you use a scanner to listen for police radio?

If you do, please post which one you're using. My dad's into ham radio stuff so I use his sometime but I want a portable to take with me while driving and watch out for speed traps.

No definitely not. Its an interesting topic, using radio's to keep track of the 5-0 while you commit crimes. I was reading this true crime book about this guy in winnpeg who robbed countless banks and was able to get away for years because he had a police radio scanner with him and was able to tell what they where up to.

I've had this idea for quite sometime and want to get one set up for my car so I can keep track of railworkers and cops while I'm painting trains.

i want one for trains so i can chill somewhere else and then meet them at the stop and go spot that i frequent.
i hate sitting around waiting for two hours, sometimes more, and then not even painting one.

that also might help with the spot thats near a csx yard.

hahaha good ol' police scanner my friend had one, it was very useful
when we went out bombing.....u have to be on the right frequency though....and if u get pulled over for anything and they see the scanner ur ass is in some deep shit.

Some can be a little expensive but if you're into eBay you could probably find a used one cheap.

I was just wondering if anyone had one they like in particular. Don't know really how feasible it would be to use it, though, you could probably get in more trouble if you're caught with it.

Some of them now have a button that takes you to the weather frequency. I guess you could always hit that and say you were listening to weather...

I reccomend getting one, I used to have one and it saved my ass countless times. The codes are helpful too but I think that Montgomery has different ones than most cities.

Just to let you know guys, moderators see your ip so that mean they're stocked somewhere... if the data is stocked it can be looked at, the ip adress display is what makes this place no going nuts with 3125accounts for the same person and the old account creating technique to cheat on the battles!

but it also mean it would take a cop who can acces these informations about 15 minutes if you include the time of starting the computer to track your ass down...


I did not said there was cops on this forum (they dont like the internet that much i think, but i might be wrong) but if there was... it would be a breeze tracking your ass down...

Try RadioReference (http://www.radioreference.com/index.php), they've got everything you need to know about what frequencies are being used by whom, trunking, and wether or not they're analog or digital.

Really, though, it's illegal to use a scanner while committing a crime... so don't do it... and don't say I gave you the idea. I don't really want any of you guys getting into trouble... :(

And yes, scanners are expensive, but if you try eBay or pawn shops, or sometimes even thrift stores like Goodwill (people get rid of a lot of good shit around here!) then you might be able to get one cheap.

I was just wondering if someone was already using one, I wouldn&#39;t use it do do graffiti but I would be listening to avoid speed traps. I was reading about it on a radar detector site and I was just trying to get a second opinion...

If anyone gives a fuck i have a whole book with all the chanels for everything from airplane traffic to the 5-0 along with the translations for alot of the code that all of said operations use, for all of i think Canada , im not sure ,its been a while since ive looked at it. But anyway im willing to scan some of the book if anyone requests some info.

I&#39;m going to cop me one of these really soon. Today was a perfect example of why a scanner would be perfect. Painting a freight and an engine rolls up to take the line away.. bringing along with it workers. Having a radio would for one give me advance notice and two let me know if they saw me and are reporting it too the cops. If you can find kamloops BC in that book I&#39;d be really grateful artcrime&#33;

Yeah, nothing you do on the internet is truly anonymous... you can make it as tough as possible but there&#39;s no way to hide your IP. If you could, you wouldn&#39;t be able to pull webpages.

There are some sites that can track just about everything, your IP, your ISP, your country, your computer&#39;s language, your OS, your internet browser and version, your monitor resolution and color depth, if you clicked on a link to get to the site, and even the version of Java and Flash installed.
If they used a search engine, it tells you which one they used and what they were searching for.

Now, if you&#39;re leeching off of your neighbor&#39;s WiFi, then you&#39;re scott free, because it looks like you&#39;re them instead of you. They could get in trouble for it, though. That&#39;s why my WiFi uses WPA2 encryption. :)

I was wondering why you said this... I just figured it out today. I was at Wal-Mart and they had this scanner for listening to NASCAR drivers during races&#33; :lol: Too bad I&#39;m not a NASCAR fan&#33; :rolleyes: :lol:

I hate the RadioShack here, too. The owner is a big Nazi. Got some foreign accent you can&#39;t understand if you tried. Luckily he wasn&#39;t there tonight but there isn&#39;t jack shit in that store... got to go a friggin hour away to get to a decent RadioShack.
