The original Akira was done in 1988, with the english language dub being done hurriedly in an attempt to make it semi-marketable...Didn&#39;t really work too well. Terribly done. That having been said, the Japanese audio was matched 100% to the animation, as the voices had been recorded before hand. Perfect sychronization.

The second release was in 2001 after Manga Entertainment bought the rights to it. The English dub was done far better...however, the subtitles are still the best way to go. The Japanese synch was still done impeccably, while not 100% accurate.
