Hey,
I’m posting from Transitions, an alternative program for at-risk youth aged 13-17 dealing with difficulty in school at Riverside School Board (south Shore of Montreal). The purpose of the program is to reintegrate students into mainstream high school once they have had a chance to face and begin to overcome what is truly challenging them.
We have received a $1200 grant from the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation for an art project in April. Last year, we did a graffiti project that was a huge success with the students. This year, we’d hoped to do the same, but unfortunately the artists who enabled it last year are unavailable. The other difficulty is that we have to submit the names of the artists to the Foundation by this Friday. I realize this is super last-minute, but we are looking for an artist to help us out. They would basically be helping the kids do one large mural (design, sketching, putting it on the wall, etc). The $1200 would cover the payment of the artist, and we have already begun raising money for supplies. (So far, just over $200) The project would take place on Fridays in April, however we could definitely be flexible for times.
For a lot of our kids here, graffiti is a means to reach them; it is a huge part of their culture and their identity, and by having a chance to express themselves creatively, I at least hope to be able to find a common ground and begin exploring what change means to them. The title of the project is “Beyond Measure,” teaching kids how to open up, help others and reach their full potential.
Thanks for reading,
Katie

because most illegal writers who are good enough to paint legally, are smart enough to either have a legal-only name for such reasons, or go ahead and use their illegal name anyway, knowing that by simply writing a name (even if its the same style, and hell, even if you rep crews) that the cops can't charge you for anything, or even hold anything against you (you have to be caught doing something illegal for that, and this would not be painting anything illegal)... if your in an urban centre like montreal, i don't think you'd really have to worry about heat from doing something like this, even if you did chose to use your illegal name for a legal venture....
just my 2 cents, any real head would know whats up anyway...

i dont see why you even care, none of you are from montreal.
bumsuckfun is right, there are people in montreal who do legal AND illegal.
the shit you SHOULD be worried about is people saying things like
We want a graffiti-styled logo. send us a picture and well chose from the ones we have. the winners will receive (whatever).
THATT is a ripoff that noone ever said anything about because they just steal your shit and never talk to you again.
and just the fact that this was signed "katie" makes me believe it haha.

What Happened to the Letters? is right even if this is a cops, which i really don't think you have absolutely no problem if you don't tell em what you usually write
i live on the other side of our planet but i will copy your message onto some friends if i find any who are willing to help i'll pm you
Why would cops be on forums like this shouldn't they be on ones that are like brake and enter, explosive shit like that I know theres forums out there like that but whats so bad about graffiti to have a bust on your house.. And that's been done before.

Awesome.. I didn't expect such a response. I guess I am a bit of a cop in a way.. I'm trying to turn these kids around and I'll be the first to admit I'm probably not their favorite person when I instill discipline and detentions. But I also know that graffiti is a huge part of who they are and actually one of the kids recommended this site to help find an artist.
Anyhow, you can look at Riverside's website at www.rsb.qc.ca - "Transition Program" is under Educational Services, if you want more info on us here.
Please give me a call if you're interested - I guess I'd ask if you can send a sample of your work just to know that you're legit, but talk to me first if you have doubts.
Thanks guys,
Katie

if you're not having much luck, try giving SubV ( http://www.subv.net ) a call at (514) 485-4489 and they might be able to hook you up with some very talented writers... could be a good place to get lined up with both talent and supplies...
