question:
i just got a whole lot of prisma markers, along with a prisma 'colourless blender'. anyone have any idea how to use it? im assuming it can help make fades, etc
Ok, thinking of changing my name from Drest to Drast. Not really feeling the 'e' and the name sounds kinda lame.
This is what I got when I searched on google:
http://images.google.com/images?q=drast%20...f-8&sa=N&tab=wi (http://images.google.com/images?q=drast%20graffiti&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&sa=N&tab=wi)

i dont think drest souns too lame, but if youre not feeling the letters defianately change that shit up
Fuck it, I'll just keep writting drest. I've already got a few tags around anyways.
how you get better hand control because i have to tag stuff really fast because i have really high pressure cans and otherwise it drips and is there any easy way to avoid that
you just gotta practice doin your tags on paper or with markers at fast speeds, then when you move to a can your speed should be up there and the faster you go the less drips ull get

Your name will most likely change as your handstyle progresses and you discover what letters you write best. You can write anything for now, cuzz you haven't really developed anything to put on the street.
The best way to find a name-
Go to the picture gallery forums- click on tags, tags, tags thread. Study the tags carefully. determine which ones you like, look at each letter and try to understand what it is that you like about it and what makes it flow. try and imagine the progression from a simple letter, to the styles you see. Now that you see what works for other people, go back to writing simple letters over and over, adding a bit of flair to them as you go, but not distorting the letter unnaturally. Imagine each letter as an organic being, with limbs and joints. When you add some style to the letter does it make it look like it has a broken limb, or is it flossin a b-boy stance? That's how I judge if a letter looks good. Nice letters look like they're popping and locking.. Bad letters look like they got beat down by riot police.
Do the whole alphabet. when you find 3-6 letters you like, try them in different variations together, come up with a name, and there you go. Remember tho, that as you develope, you'll get really excited everytime you do something better, but that's just a "personal best" and not nessecarilly wall worthy yet. It takes time, but it's an enjoyable journey too. ;)

yo, just jacked all these from hobby lobby and they are SICK markers. there like fuckin 6 bucks a piece and the skinny little nib on one end acts like a paintbrush. i dig. 1 out of 10 stars what do you guys give prismas? these were a little more expensive so i just took them but if prismas are it then i can arrange another trip.
hah 9 markers for 50 bucks...fuck that

09-21-2006, 09:00 PM
yeah thoes are nice but expensive so i oped for prisma. thoes really work good like for watercolor esque things. ya dig
i would say prismas are dope maby a 8 but they do fade on stckers so its moslty for bbooks eevn though i use them for stickers.

i just picked up a couple dozen prismas, and im loving them. tempted to go back and get some more (which i will do soon enough hehe)
prismas are 6.50$ around here though, more expensive then where ever youre racking yours from
they have the same 2 tips though, looks like the 'fat' tip is bigger on the prisma though

no, on thoes markers he grabbed its like a watercolor brush on one end(very flexible and brush like characteristics) and a chisle on the other.

naw man, ive got no clue. i was always wondeirng about it, but you can fadee with just the two colors so easily i never messed around with it. it seemed to just bleach the color out a bit, and then the nib on the belender would be that same color so idk whats up.
fuck mad posts sorry.
also a tip for anyone whos getting prismas, the color on the lable is lighter than what they actually produce. so if you want like a light green get a very very light green. it tends to happen and is more exagerated espeically with purple and other dark colors.

ya i know what you mean about it bleaching out the colors. ive found i can fo fades with it, but the colours have to be very close to one another (like pm4 to pm5)
as far as the nib absorbing the other colors, its not a problem, if you get other colors in the nib, just a few strokes on a blank sheet and theyll be gone

Ok, I'm currently writing Drest, there's a few tags up but nothing extraordinary.
I was thinking of writing Drast but there's apparently ad old school writer by that name (here (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=graffiti+drast&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8)) Drast2 doesn't really appeal to me.
So then I thought of writing Dast but that seems to be taken (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=graffiti+dast&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8) too.

drest is generic sounding. it should be frest if anything.
or spell it with a J like JREST it even sounds the same when you say it. the JR makes that D sound.

i dont see anything wrong with drest, jrest, drast and all that sound fine too. can sumione tell me how to do a fade with markers, as i have no clue at all!
nerdx
09-22-2006, 09:07 AM
you fill in the top with once color then bottom with other
then you graddually do lighter and lighter strokes of one color into the other.
then do the same with the color you havent done.
doomsayer
09-22-2006, 09:40 AM
ive tried that it doesnt work, i just get like a darker colour in between
BRAINE
09-22-2006, 10:07 AM
always use a light color first (blending, fading)
fill the light color in real heavy and juicy, if youre using say like cool shadow (faint green) or light cerulean or something that comes out very light, it wont affect it when you fill very very deep.
then start where you want a solid color, maybe lettuce green or a medium blue, fill in very very heavy, then slowly decrease the amount of juicyness you apply to the paper, if you understand how i mean cas i am not so good when english speach online typing.
then do faint strokes to blend, and go back over it with the light base color to fully blend, and lay it on thick again so the ink already in the paper will be reactivated by all the alcohol and mix together.
and since your base color was already dry, itll probly be darker wheere you blended it in, so use some light strokes once again to avoid getting a big saturated line.
learn to do this with sharpies and other cheap markers first.
also, with prismas and copics and most sharpie colors, after you do this, or use a colorless blender, just write a few lines on a scrap piece of paper until it is back to normal color, the nib might still look like it has some dark in it, but it wont show when you draw anymore.
.
6.50 for prismas? you crazy.
shit is like 3.30 here, and 5.80 for copics.
copics are the bomb markers, but they run out of ink faster than prismas, and i dont know where to buy refill cartridges except online which is expensive....
in conclusion to this lost post nobody will read, USE SHARPIES
when you are good at doing blends, fades, and other effects, move on to better markers. theres no point in using expensive markers if you cant use them right.
the only copics and prismas i have are colors that i can use with the sharpies i have, for doing blends and fades and dying fills and other stuff. also i have some darker colors i got for free, but im not gonna argue with free copics, right?
if you have a hobby lobby, look at the copic rack, it has a tutorial on how to use the markers to do many effects on the header. its a great read
doomsayer
09-22-2006, 10:11 AM
haha juicyness! ill give it a go when i can gte my hands on some colours.
BRAINE
09-22-2006, 10:11 AM
also, copics are the fastest fading markers you can buy
copics fade in less than a week, and turn into greyscale of your original colors in like 2-3 weeks.
prismas color holds in longer in the sun if they dont get wet.
alot of sharpie colors will fade to different, lighter colors, but still retain the original colors.
thats why i use an ultrafine point decocolor marker for outlines, cas then even if my original colors and forcefield all fade, the outline and 3 d will still be intact (stickers) until it gets torn down
sorry for the two long posts, hope they at least help one person
USE Sharpies.

Braine-Damn, that was helpful. I never could figure out that blender. I've grown semi-fond of sharpies as well. I got shit loads of prismas, but something about sharpies just comforts me. I think I feel less pressured with them.
Next, give me a tutorial on how to quote just one sentence of a post so I can put this in my sig- " if you understand how I mean cas I am not so good when english speach online typing"
 Reminds me of some of the spam threads we have to delete trying to sell drugs online. "Take one then rainbow burst to your morning, erection dancing after withdrawl, no hangover so you superman all over again. Then cherry burst is my life."

I'm not nessecarilly trying to get my kid into graff, but I will expose him to it, then he can express himself however he likes, whether it's through writing or ballet, as long as he (or she, still don't know yet but soon) is happy.
Why would I expose my child to graff? Interesting question, I'm glad you almost asked it. :P As I see it, there are 2 things plagueing todays youth, and I see these 2 things just getting worse in the future.
#1- gangs
#2- The mass commercialization of hip hop into a big advertisement leaving kids soul-less zombies that crave bling, Dunks, and Bape, and subsequently feeling emotionally hollow and incompassionate......
I want to teach my child the 4 elements of hip hop, so that they aren't forgotten. Think about it.. Hip hop is one of the biggest things on the earth right now, yet most people have such a little and missguided concept of what it really is.. I don't want my kid thinking life is all about poppin Crystal in the VIP and slangin rocks on the corner, but that's what corporate America is trying to shove down his throat, so unless I take an active part in un-brainwashing him, (or her :P ) He'll likely loose himself. I also want him to understand that he doesn't have to be a toy soldier for some punk ass gang to be hip hop. Gangs raped the hip hop culture and tarnished it's image. Yet they think they're the poster child for hip hop. Fuck that. I use my graff to rally against all this bullshit on the regular. Lead thru example.
Another reason I want to expose my child to graff early is because eventually, I'll get busted again, and once they got me, they'll continue to over and over. I'm the only person in this city doing wheatpaste and it's turned alot of heads. I'll continue to do it as long as I've got something to say, but I don't want to be villaified as a bad guy in my childs eyes when "daddy has to go to jail."
I'm putting up a new wheatpaste this weekend. It will say "The greatest wars are waged within your heart..." That's what graff is about to me. That's why I want my kid to know about it. He will have a war to wage of his own someday. I hope he wins.
Anyway, as far as my wife is concerned, she is pretty accepting of it as long as I keep a positive message. She gets pissed when she catches one of my tags tho. :P
Sorry for the fuckin manifesto.. I read your post right before work, and I had from 6pm-6am alone at work to think about it...

truth in those words....cezr u never kno how the styles and culture for our youth is going to change. i garentee my father thought i would be big into old rock and roll which he loved to listen to. i of course (being the rebell that i am :P ) chose my own path and started listening to rap. i eventually grew tired of that "im a gangsta, ling bling" shit and decided to go back to its roots to the good old hip hop. my dad even tried to sway my outlook towards rock (which i for one have nothing against...except for all that fairy rock the kids are listening to now) by buying me a guitar n gettin me lessons which i had fun doing and got pretty good at it...the only thing was i was using the guitar to make hip hop beats. i guess my point is that no matter how much you try to get your kids to listen to and be a part of the culture you love, your kids are their own person and will travel the path they want to travel. the best thing you can do is support your child in their actions and style...but i do think tryin to keep hip hop alive (or bring it back cause many ppl seem to think it is dead.... <_< pricks) through the next generation is a great idea. theres my speech. peace.

I read your post right before work, and I had from 6pm-6am alone at work to think about it...[/b][/quote]
agreed... but to me all that bling and gangsta shit isnt hip-hop, to me its rap... now, im a fan of all music (all EXCEPT country :D) hip-hop isnt a music its a way of life, evrything else is a fad...

Anyone know anything about Drast, is he too good to use the name, same thing with Dast. And do you think Drest sounds lame/stupid/whatever?
Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers.
Anyone else got something to add? I'm leaning towards Dast right now.
hey i was just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how to do a wildstyle... i tried and i was completely lost it was pathetic
Everybody I talk to about graffiti says its dead or dying out, but the way I see its coming back or staying the same not as strong as it was in early 80s but still I dont see it goin away.....thoughts comments?

From what I've read in interviews, the cops still haul him down to headquarters every once in a while. The last issue of Undastream he talked about nearly getting popped, but got of by luck. I don't know how big writers swing it. I wonder the same about Shepard Fairey (Obey), but I suppose if they didn't see you do it, then they can't prove that it's not an imposter.

I was wondering, after looking at the stickers thread in the pictures gallery, how do your print a sticker? do you just scan the image, color it, get sticker paper and print it? what kind of sticker paper is the best to get? and how do you set up your printer for using that paper?

However, if you really do wan't them, go to ebay. They're way cheaper than you can get them in stores if you find the right deal. I got a package with 100 Prismas and Design2's (design2's are the same quality) for like 30 bucks as opposed to paying 60bucks for a 24 pack.

umm, i used a orange dot with a painters touch once along time ago, and it like spewed everywhere. my hand ended up being tan colored for a couple of days
im pretty sure it was painters touch anyways

Try searching for 'graffiti nai' in google without the quotation marks. Check the images as wellas the text that comes up in google.

yo this is the toyest q ever but, ive never used spraypaint before (aside from practicing in my back yard with w/e i find in my garage) and im about to go buy some paint to make ink for my mop this weekend. I told my friend i need a bucket of tremclad and he said he has a shit load of bucket paint in his garage but its all "enamel" "crappy latex stuff". Well I remembered that when I was in osh almost all the rusto cans were "enamel". So is enamel good or bad? I know it can also mean oil based paint and not latex, and oil based is good.
just go to home depot or somethin and they have little cans of rusto...like 1 pint
get some black or silver enamel and mix that shit with some thinner and youre good to go
if you want add a drop of dot-3 brake fluid to make it ghost on shit
gotmiak
09-29-2006, 01:21 AM
Cool so i take it from your reply enamel is not something i shouldnt get.
I just got confused because i know enamel means latex sometimes, and krylon puts spraypaint on their cans while rusto puts enamel. w/e
Thanks
nah dude i said to get the rusto enamel...its oil based enamel and you can make that shit mad drippy if you like

2/3 rusto or tremclad paint
couple drops of dot3 brakefluid
for the ink im gonna make

i saw a commercial on TV for the krylon h2o and i believe its for use on plastic stuff like mail boxes and patio furniture. In the commercial it showed the water rolling off the object painted with the h2o stuff sorta like that patio wood stain stuff. Its probably not good for walls and stuff.

why has everyone latched on to cope2? there are much bigger writers then that, both in terms of bombing, and piecing. kid, if you dont even have more then a few pics of his work, why the fuck are u making a site abt him? bcuz its the "cool" thing to do? the fuck? he has enough sites anyway. and why would you wanna promote another writer like that? graffiti is about promoting yourself.
so the misterious kilz paint is revealed:

dont go out taggin yet, keep working on your handstyle / sketching
tips : dont make the ends of your letters into arrows (bottom left of your A)
try to make the letters the same size
try to learn to make your tag 'flow' more, right now it has a lot of harsh angles in it, tough on the eyes

your probably not goign to find any good ink, but a mop is for paint.
get rustolem paint in the bucket. if you want it to be very drippy
get some paint thinner. and mix it together and put it in the kiwi.
if you just want it a little drippy just pour in just the paint and no thinner.

no it is not accptable. if you look it up in the Rules of Graffiti, Internet Edition book page 1275 section 3.2 article 4 says
"absolutly no two letter bombs"
Good luck fitting ARTIFICIAL INTEGRITY in a piece. Yea you could do AI for a bomb but what about pieces?
