it just pisses me off that theres such a high turnover rate here. its like, sometimes i put so much effort into helping these kids that are so wack, and just started. i mean u dont know. i tell them to pm me. and there sending me sketch after sketch, and i write them pages of crits. and really i like helping them, but then suddenly, their gone. never come back. and its like what the fuck.

i really think that people shouldnt do this unless they can see themselves devoting themselves to it someday. its like an insult, cuz for me its so much more then art. i think everyone in the big boy threads knows what i mean. an obsession, a way of life.

I, and this whole site. such a valuable resource, and its like abusing it. u know? they dont realize how great this is, how much harder it could be.

i used to get so pissed when the kids that were better then me never gave crits and i asked them why. and they said they were sick of it,that it was just the same thing over and over and in the end it didnt matter. and i thought id nvr be like that. and now there forcing me to it. i hate it.

That wall is covered in some of the crappiest handstyles you can imagine now. They didn&#39;t go over me.. They were just paying there respects, which is nice, but I wish they developed better handys, cuzz that&#39;s a legal wall where all community artists go and they&#39;re getting pissed off cuzz my shit is inspiring kids to scribble crap everywhere. Now there&#39;s another writer in town I used to go over that got really good and tried to rock a fresh piece on that wall but they stopped him cuzz they don&#39;t want anymore graffiti there, just "art".

All this makes me hella sad... I just had to vent. Everythings going to shit. The cops are ready to crack down, the art is getting trashed, the gangs want to kill me and they&#39;re destroying everything. I just wanted to make something uplifting and inspiring. There&#39;s so much sadness and fucked up shit going on in the world, and when I try to lift peoples spirits, the worst elements of society come out and destroy the message. I feel like throwing in the towel, but I hate the gangs here so much, it&#39;s become an obsession to mock them.

I hate 50cent, the Bush administration for the poverty it creates that makes gangs thrive, the drug traffickers that fund gangs, the lack of education funding, and the basic breakdown of societies compassion for human life. The only ray of hope that I&#39;ve got to hold onto is the baby that is growing fast in my wifes womb. I love my family so much it makes my heart hurt, physically, when I think about it.. When you love something that much, how can you give up on the society that they are forced to live in? How can you stop yourself from at least trying to fight the forces that threaten them?

I&#39;m usually not a very dramatic person, I&#39;m just hurting right now and hoping for something to lift my spirits. Hope you guys understand. Maybe it&#39;s a little heavy for an internet forum, but if you&#39;re gonna be here, why not be real?

Thanks to everybody for the positive feedback. It makes me feel a little better. I&#39;ll feel alot better once the city paints over all the devastation in that area. I can&#39;t help but feel partially responsible for it since I angered the gangs, but I guess I can&#39;t be held responsible for their ignorrance and lack of ethics.

Also Bouncingsoul- Here it&#39;s not so much about finding a place to fit in. These aren&#39;t white or black kids. These are Lakota Gangs. They are scouted out from big city gangs and brought from the reservations which are the poorest places in the country with the highest suicide rate. They don&#39;t care about anything anymore.

I&#39;m not gonna sit around feeling sorry for them tho. My wife is Lakota and one of the kindest people I&#39;ve ever met.

hey im a new writer and if anybody has some advice for me it would be much appreciated.

start with a tag. make multiple different tags. then use a pencil and start sketching the tag, like try making it fat, using bars are helpful. look at ur tag so u can make it similar. then try adding edges going to dirrections. like for example, look at my simple drawing. the limb on the a that goes left is centered. then like if u look at the v, the edges are tilted. ya see? then try making it wild abit, like as other limbs touch the other limb, add something popping out of it. sounds pretty confusing. for example... look at my t, the top of it pops. do u see y?

and then use a ball point pen to outline it softly. then erase it so the pencil markings are gone. then outline it.

then u can add 3d. u can make the 3d go into a certain area, like mines are going down. u can make it go to the left etc... or u can put a dot on the paper, then make all the edges touch it, then cut it short. be creative.

Kace: Im still pretty toy, but a word of advice i can give you is to always accept what people tell you and to think abt what they say, cos in my opinion thats the best way to improve. But there are lots of guys that would just say things like &#39;that sucks&#39; or &#39;stop graffing&#39; and shit liek that, without even telling you why they would say that. Dont care about those kind of guys. Chances are they suck as well, and they are just looking for toys to put down so they dont feel like one. Hold your head up high and keep working hard is all i can tell you :) Nice tag name you got there btw :)

Hot_Pocket, clear coat spray paint will help a bit. But it depends what you mean by &#39;protecting&#39;. If you&#39;re talking about fading it probably comes down to more of the sort of paint you use in the first place.

if youre painting a canvas, you dont need to seal it. thats why youre painting a canvas, and not a peice of cardboard its going to fleck off of.

if you are painting something else, and you want it to last (like stenciling something personal, or whatnot) pick up some sort of varnish / sealant if you must. although good paint should stay on as long as you allow it time to dry

Damn. Handstyles are hard as hell too get&#33; I can&#39;t seem to find one that I like. I&#39;ve been practicing for 2 weeks from 1 hour to 3 hours a day. None of them I like or some looked like a bite from someone else. Is there a secret to gaining better handstyles cause when writing a bomb or piece or something you use simple letters and distort them. I can&#39;t really seem to get anything accept some plain stuff. I probably sound like i&#39;m bitching but It&#39;s been frustrating.

I have a question about 3D. Now I wondered this if it was just traditional so the letters could be seen or something or if I&#39;m just not seeing the 3D right. Now look at this Base piece.

Because if each letter&#39;s 3d overlaps the other&#39;s then it just wouldn&#39;t look good. Plus the addon&#39;s 3d would be REALLY hard to do. If you just do a 3d on the piece as a whole instead of individual letter&#39;s 3ds then it looks like the whole piece is on the same level instead of being unbalanced

wen i use my new york fats or blue dots on america&#39;s finest black and silver paint, they dont make flairs. but wen i use them on other type of cans, the flairs come easily. like really really nice flairs.

Naw, I agree. I&#39;ve felt bad about hitting spots before. You gotta use a sensibility about it. You get eager to paint and you go hit a spot that was just plain innapropriate or you&#39;re drunk and it looks like runny piss the next day. That shit aint cool. You aren&#39;t adding anything to the community. You really gotta keep a sense of ethics about it. I can see where Alive is coming from. He lives in NY. Shit&#39;s grimey there anyway, so why not. I live in a much smaller city with very little graff, so I really have to think about what I&#39;m doing and what the impact on the community will be. Cause innevitabley, after I hit a spot, 5 newjacks with shit steezy are gonna jock up on my wall and down the street. Then the folk nation monkeys come and wreck everything else and the communities like, damn, I hate gangster graffiti vandals......blah,blah...etc.

I wasn&#39;t drunk and it didn&#39;t look bad, but it was the fact that it was some construction companys cargo trailor. If it was a wall i would never have second thoughts, & this is my first time doing it on anything but a building or concrete. So i guess you live and learn.

I have a question.

I see all the time in videos something that doesn&#39;t make sense to me. I only see it in productions but let me try to explain.

1. He lays up the sketch on the wall with white or something.
2. He fills with like green or orange or something.
3. He then covers ALL the green or whatever color with another color.

My question is, is there a reason they throw up one color and then cover it? I see it alot in various videos and it doesn&#39;t make sense to me. I thought maybe they would throw up a color that wasn&#39;t as opaque so you can see it through the paint. But I have yet to notice that. So any help?

Props for that, I remember seeing that mural when you did it. I&#39;d be a little disapointed if they cleaned that up.
