Haha thanks for the honest crits...i've heard people ask me if i use tape but i try and just use paint and a steady hand, its what works for me. I have a few tricks up my sleeve as far as can control tricks though.:cool:

I do like silhette...her work is dope. The project that i was working on called for girls faces so i painted them all in different color scales and added piecing elements to them...the end result was work that looks strikingly similar to her work. Not my intent but either way i'm happy with the results...they were fun and out of the norm for me.

i don't know how many of you roll your own canvasses, but does anybody know the difference between primed and unprimed canvas?im about to buy a roll and theres a $30 difference between the two. can i still use spray paint on the unprimed canvas?

umm i dont think so your better off getting the primed one cuz i think you have to prime it yourself if you dont but not 100% sure

It depends what kind of effect you want to have with your painting. The primer they use on canvas is called Gesso. It doesn't allow the medium you use to soak in to the material. Just layer on top. I would probably get the Gesso one. Unless you have a product to prime it with.

If you're worried about the money factor just switch the price tag thats inside the roll. Thats what i do...i get a 50% off coupon and switch the label from the $15 roll to the $130 roll. Ends up costing me $8 and some change and then i have a giant roll of primed canvas.:)

But if you don't want to go that route then you could buy the unprimed canvas and gesso it yourself...but you won't save much money, probably a few dollars at most. You should just rack your supplies. Most chain arts and crafts stores are christian based and don't have very good security so its a rack fest and if you sell your shit its all profit. Hustlenomics 101.

If your colors dont look so hot in ur photo hop in photoshop. and just go >Image>Adjustments>Auto Levels, Auto Color, and Auto Contrast. then Image Adjustments, and Hue/Saturation. Just bump up ur saturation a bit.

stencils arent terrible when you have a projector and do your layers on a wall.
black out what you want cut and then cut it. it takes time, but it works.
i've been helping a friend of mine do alot of celebrity stencils lately. his are only three layers usually due to deadlines, but those above are killer. i want to try and talk him into doing some four or five layers soon for a big show we have going on at the beginning of november.

I know this was a few pages ago,but I found some vinyl records done like this when I was in Frisco once,pretty cool. sometimes ill do this with cans of Arizona,or cups from Panda Express :P draw on em an place em somewhere where they'll get seen an wont blow aroun an look like trash..if nothing else I'm making some janitors job slightly more interesting..

Fucked up? Guy obviously hasn't done himself damage, it's just another material/technique that can add to the picture, if he had stapled a sheet of his flesh to the picture then i'd agree, but a little bit of bloodshed in a subtle area doesn't harm anyone, it's a just a bit of his honest self in his work.

I usually use blood in my work when it's for somebody special. I'm not just just giving them a painting but a part of myself, as a lot of my personality goes into anything I paint. I don't care what anybody on here has to say about it being fucked up, it's not for you, so you shouldn't be concerned.
I'm not a cutter, and I've never cut myself for any other reason than using my own blood in my own art.
And yes, it is dedication
