For people doing stencils a lot, do you normally put your name somwhere on or near the stencils or do you like to put up your stencils without any signature of any sort? Also, is it a bad (for any reason) to use the same name you write with for your street art (that is, if you do both)?

and to answer a previous question i do own a scanner and i just installed the drivers for it about an hour ago

I&#39;m somewhat of a beginner at street art but im working on getting better with the ol exacto knife. The knife was kind of dul since i haven&#39;t replaced the blade in a long ass time and the card paper i was using kept getting fuzzy at the edges. I&#39;ll get some of those overhead projector transparencies for my next few stencils. Here are two i just scanned. I took your advice, Gesus, and made an abbreviation of my name (Bas2) and put a piece of orange plastic behind it so you could see (it&#39;s a virgin). And the secnd one is the previously mentioned security camera the cutting is really terrible as it was one of the first stencils i ever made (it&#39;s a dirty tramp). I thought i had lost the camera one until my mom found it, which means she probably knows about it now. She asked "what&#39;s this stencil?" and i knew from previous conversations about art she knew of street art. Didn&#39;t help that it was covered in dry black spray paint so i just said "I don&#39;t know." and hoped she&#39;d forget.

I went out and painted some of my stencils around town today. i painted a lot and even in some spots with cars passing by a lot but i guess no one saw me. on the way home there was this wall with some of my old stencils next to it, so i figured i&#39;d hit it up with a throw since i dont do that often. It was great painting but after i was finished i stood back to look at it and i heard something stop behind me. I turned around and saw this german guy who lived near the place (he didnt know me but i once saw him when i was younger a this hosue). He stopped, looked me in the eyes and kept walking by. I was frozen standing there with the can in my hand still. Why he didn&#39;t say anything or do anything, i dont know. I was so freaked out since i was never seen before. I was scared he might go to his house (which was close) and call the cops so i tried to take a shortcut through some woods to my house. As i was going through the woods i heard a snap beneath my feet and i fell through a sheet of ice into an ice cold stream of water up to my knees. I tossed my stencils and cans (in a bag) into the woods to be retrieved later and sprinted back home (pretty far considering i was nearly having a heart attack). I threw my clothes into the washing machine and went to take a shower.

Kinda freaky, but i did put up a lot of stencils and hopefully next time i will know better than to lose my mind when im caught in the act.

i see graffiti as being something that gets a name up...
street art is just that....art thats on the street...
though a lot of ppl tend to blurr the lines between the two....

i guess the best definition i have to draw a line between the two is...

graffiti is done completely on the spot...you dont need to prepare beforehand what yor gonna put up...

street art usually involves somekinda preparing at home...whether its cuttin a stencil, making a poster and the paste, makin stickers, makin statues/installations...

oh yeah and for some fucked up reason, street art tends to get a lot less hate than graffiti.

and capt snuffy...alot of street art has absolutely no justification beyond the artist wanting to vandalise/get up.

to me i feel street art has meaning behind the distruction/reconstruction of it and has makes it more powerful then graffiti because they dont care about being the dopest just about being creative and getting a message out there....


i feel graffiti is about being the best artist u can possibly be pushing all your limits to get better alot of names not have to much meaning behind the names are more based on the letters that flow and look the best together

get those labels at some office supply store. but only make printer stickers if yuo have a laser printer. ink jets are terrible for stickers.

i can answer all of those, but i will probably word it wrong and you will get confused, sooo. i will just answer the last two which i can word right.

im not from LA, but i know that stickers and stencils are illegal everywere, so yeah. unless you do it on a leagal wall or permission, but that isnt what you do on a legal or permission wall.

i keep my stencils when im done using them and then use them the next time, but i think you are meaning after painting one. so in that case, just carry it(the stencil) in a pizza box and it wont get stuck(assuming you dont put the wet side down) and you look less suspicios carrying around a pizza box(unless you have a can of paint in the other hand <_< )

no its not a stencil, i make the image smaller so i can print it on postal stickers, then make it bigger(the whole page) and use it as a poster...

to make it on a sticker you have to fuck with it alot and adjust it to the size of the the sticker...took me forever to do, im still not sure how i did it.

I like it for the most part. A shit load of underspray, you can fix that by spraying the back with temporary adhesive or use a temp glue stick.

i think they mainly get money from selling pieces from previous works and projects and fund themselves. as far as i know, aside from that, they don&#39;t take any kind of money at all.
