¬¬Beauty and the Beast

The wise ones say, when duality is dissolved and what appears to be separate and in opposition is realized as being one, life will be a continuous flowing stream of joy and natural highness …

But before this sense of balance is created…we must experience the extreme!

On September 26,2009, Mid City Art Gallery, in Los Angeles California, presents “BEAUTY and the BEAST”. The courageous Installation/Exhibition from two of the most dynamic and opposing forces within the world of Spray Can Art… COPE 2 and CHORBOOGIE.

COPE 2 is a king and a Graffiti legend from the Bronx whose reputation for bombing has earned him the title “God of Destruction”. CHORBOOGIE is the rising Sun of California who’s work is purely legal, spiritual and therapeutic.

Two diverse and powerful individuals who have traveled the world afar with two totally different approaches, philosophies and techniques Will come together to expand create build and destroy our expectations our beliefs and our limitations of what art is …

>>> Featuring Nunca (Sao Paulo) Roadsworth (Montreal) and over 50 emerging artists. Opening Sept. 18th -- Exhibition to close on Nuit Blanche, Oct. 3rd. <<<

Sneaking into and funking up the cultural heart of Toronto, Manifesto Festival of Culture and Community has been toiling away in preparation for a three floor exhibition that will literally spill out the door, into the street and on to the walls of 52 McCaul St. The exhibition will include a work residency by Nunca from Brazil (Sept. 18-28.) Hailing from Sao Paulo, Nunca recently headlined the blockbuster ‘Street Art’ at the Tate Modern (London, UK.) Matching top international talent the best Montreal has to offer, Nunca will be joined by the infamous street artist Roadsworth -- the subject of a recent NFB documentary (screening at the Drake Hotel, 4:30pm Sept 18th.)

Inside the building, Floor 1 will be the ‘Rise Art Auction for Youthlink,’ presented by Well and Good with 100% of proceeds going to a charity devoted to underserved youth in Toronto. The Rise Auction will wind up on Nuit Blanche. Floor 2, ‘The Studio’ managed/curated by Joshua Brandt of Whippersnapper Gallery will consist of work residencies by several local and national artists who will turn the space into a constantly evolving group work. Devon Ostrom, Visual Arts Director of Manifesto says that, “the value of festivals in the development of Canadian art is that they bring a diversity of artists together to learn from each other, exchange skills and build networks. The idea of floor 2, The Studio is to extend this into a month long process – and one that the public can watch unfold.“

Floor 3, supporting the development of emerging curators; Charlie Irani and Teresa Aversa of Charlie’s Gallery will transform the space with a world of installations created specifically for the show.

Check out the constantly evolving photo gallery of print quality / free use images at (active starting Sept 7th):

TAMPA (& SAN FRANCISO - OCT 10th)

RedLetter1 is proud to present Repeat Offender – featuring new works and prints by Leon “Tes One” Bedore. Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, October 3rd 2009, from 7-11 pm.

TES ONE

Combining traditional and non-traditional techniques, Tes One creates contemporary works of art that contrast nature with technology, grime with grace. Allowing himself to find beauty in the mundane, he is able to juxtapose rejected landscapes with figurative illustrations, all the while identifying what is common between the conversing elements. These opposing forces coexist to create paintings that are both symbolic and metaphorical. Tes One’s conceptual paintings are assembled from the foundation up; color and cast blanket organic substrates. Incorporating movement within his work brings his energy and message to the viewer, emotions envelope and hold focus.

Tes One’s imagery has appeared in numerous publications in both advertising and editorial capacities. His work has enjoyed acclaim in places such as London, Miami, Detroit, Cleveland and San Francisco. Repeat Offender is Tes One’s second exhibition at RedLetter1.

The show titled “Parallel Universe” is a unique look at stencil art, a subculture of graffiti that can be traced back over 30 years. Through their medium of choice both artists aim to capture the essence of city life. Logan creates highly detailed renditions of cityscapes, focusing on architecture, alleyways, and scenes that might not be easily recognized as beautiful. C215 on the other hand aims to capture human emotions and feelings through the subjects he chooses to paint, with his focus mainly on homeless, anonymous, and people who are generally rejected by society. The juxtaposition of both artists style is really something special, while they are close friends and work in a common medium their artistic styles vary significantly. “Parallel Universe” marks the first joint show between the pair and will feature several collaborative works as well as pieces that are inspired by one another.

Chor Boogie Returns To Mural After Stabbing

Bringing The Beauty Back to Market St!!!
Welcoming Chor Boogie's Art
A Gift From Chor Boogie, To The City, For The City

Date: Saturday, November 21, 2009
Time: 10:45am - 2:00pm
Location: 1028 Market ST (Between 6th and 7th ST)

Hello Good People,

As you know, spray paint artist Chor Boogie was stabbed last weekend while confronting paint thieves as he worked on his mural, “The Perception of Color Therapy” in the city of San Francisco at 1028 Market St between 6th and 7th ST’s. The mural was commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission to beautify the community. The mural is nearly ½ of a city block long in the heart of San Francisco. He and all of us are extremely lucky that his life was not taken in this turn of events. Chor is in pain, but resting up and preparing for a resilient return to this amazing creation for Market ST.

Mayor Gavin Newsom has visited Chor at the mural site and even helped along with the painting at one point. He has enjoyed watching Chor paint. More importantly, the common person walking down the street enjoys watching Chor paint daily. We would like to invite you, and everyone you know, to join us in welcoming Chor back to the mural as his gift to you. Chor will give a brief welcome speech and a live demonstration on the mural. He will also pick some children from the audience to participate in painting the mural. This will be a peaceful Media Event to celebrate Chor’s gift to the city of San Francisco. Supporting this event means you are supporting a safer city of San Francisco. So please utilize your grassroots skills to the fullest capacity so we can show Chor our Grand appreciation. We hope to meet you at the mural site this Saturday, 11/21/09 at 11:00 AM.

We would love to enjoy your company as well as your love and support. Please find photographs of the mural in progress attached. We would really appreciate it if you could send this message on to your emails lists and spread word in any way you can. Thank you very much again for your support that has been pouring in. Director of Cultural Affairs Luis R. Cancel said, "We are thrilled Chor will complete the mural “The Color Therapy of Perception,” because we know the work will brighten the streetscape and draw people to Market Street to see the completed art work. We also know artists often work in adverse settings to bring hope and change to neighborhoods and we support Chor's determination to return to Market Street to finish his painting."
