Don't waste money on an expenisve marker for books! Use a fucking board marker or drywipe, you don't need an unbuffable expenisve nice colour marker if your writing in a black book. Your just wasting good ink. Seriously try cheap shit ones you would never try on a wall on your paper and you will be satisfied.

well no one said anything about unbuffable markers <_< if you meant how people said stuff about using otr markers for sketching, look it up, they have sketching markers with small nibs, that you would never try on a wall, its not a waste of ink, you, are a waste of ink.

yayaay those are wat i was talkin about , the thin ones, not the big paint shits, i got 48 prismas and there pretty good, the bleed thru the page like a bitch and run out of juice pretty quick but i got em for $40 instead of 100 somenthing brand new, not that bad at all

permopaques are amazing in my opinion
they dont go throuh pages or bleed
they arent paint but they are opaque pigment and are amazing for fills, fades, outlines whatever .
i got em at micheals

other good markers are the metallic sharpies and decocolor
prismas are also good

what are you guys using for black outlines? i was using sharpy, but when i use my prisma colors after i outline the outline bleeds. just wondering if its just my paper, or if there's something better to use intead of black sharpy. im using just a reg sketch book becauses they dont have those bounded sketch books alota you use, which sometimes look like the paper is alittle thicker and sometimes alittle glossy.

^Are u filling with the prismas?? and if so, do u fill before or after u do the outline??

I use sharpies, I have like 50 of them that i got for 20 bucks.

BRAINE

i dont like permapaque markers, unless you are drawing on something high gloss they dont come out clean, and they rip up your paper.

i use sharpies, copics, and prismas. i like copics the best
if youre using paper that doesnt suck up ink really fast (watercolor paper is the shit for sketching, but it soaks up all your ink, ruins markers, and is hard to get clean fills) i would just use sharpies.
i mostly do sharpie fine point and ultrafine point markers, and then use copics to blend fills together and do fades and shit. you can do blends if you just use sharpies and use a prisma or copic blender. they dont come out perfect, but they look good.

paint markers too, for highlights and forcefields and shit.

decocolor are my favorite paint marker for like fine point outlines and forcefields, but painters by elmers work the best, they dry fast and dont stay tacky like oil based do.

also, when i feel like i have to do an outline first, i use a decocolor ultra fine point marker, and do the fill with ink markers so it doesnt fade or blend or anything.
doesnt work good with metallic colors though, and if you pencil sketch and outline with paint marker, then erase your pencil lines, the paint marker outline gets kind of sketchy.

doing your outline in your fill color, filling it in, adding your 3d or dropdown or whatever, then doing a final outline in black or whathaveyou, is the best way to do it i think. i do alot of stickers, so i need sketches to look real clean and fancy so people dont regret trading with me

for me, decos.

there the most common pens around my area, like a ten minute walk from my friends house. the only place that sales them is michealles (spelt wrong).

easy as fuck to rack almost anything from that place. from decos, prismas, microns and even black books. and now paint. my friend hooks me up.

buy decos are my main choice.

anything made by faber castel... prismas (if used properly) lectracolor... that sort of thing.. but theres nothin wrong with a decent marker with a piece of paper underneath the page to aviod the bleeding onto the page underneath..

basically..you shouldnt be worrying about price..cause real writers RACK..but neway...company doesnt matter...every color you see that appeals to you..steal it..keep a test page..check the marker..if it works ok.. your good.

personally i like 'le plume" watercolors and anything else i get my hands on...most art stored have the markers singly in racks...usually i go in with a flight jacket and leave with pockets fullof markers

i use sharpie painters..i got them at joanns, not sure who else sells them, michaels sells 'em, but they lock 'em up with the decos. yeah, i'm cool with racking up with paint. i haven't got caught yet, but i got the combination to the paint. =] oh yeah well, i use prisma colors too, mechanical pencil, eraser, and some shit called "painters". Elm or elmer that glue company made it i guess. the sharpie painters i suggest, but you can't write over another color, it smears, it has extra fine pt, fine pt, medium pt. etc.

i use uni paint markers which you can get at hardware stores, and i got a 24 set of watercolor markers at a craft store. they are pretty good although i wouldnt recommend them for stickers cause they're not waterproof.

permapaques are ok, but they are not the best for complicated fills, but regardless they still rock for a tagging marker or bbook.

Yeah there definately some of the best. Verrrrryyy expencive though.. not worth the money... rack...

i have acumulated a few draws of a mixture of prisma's charpacks, copics, letraset, magic markers (avalable in the uk only i think) deco's unipaints sharipies ect... paint markers go best on thick hardback sketchbook paper (with the slight grain) and design markers on marker paper..

i seem to get oil bleeding with paint markers on sketch paper.. unipaints only.. why only them?

Don't EVER use the clear colorblender...

Worst waste of racking I've ever done.
It usually doesnt mix the colors unless its on an expensive type of paper (made for bleedy markers), and if you try it on regular BB shit it might/will leave an ugly oil-like mark on your paper, looking nothing like either of the colors. Using another lighter color will DEFINITELY blend better, speaking from experience.
Hoped this helped a little. ;)

prismas are fine you just gotta know how to use them really. what i do is a get the fat side, and do stripes so you have spots of blank paper, and just fill that in with the fine end. idk the actual way how to make things look really clean, but that works for me,

Okay this is going to be really toy but are there any markers that "replicate" spray paint Ie. you can do an outline fill it in in like black and then do a white out line over the black, or like put a yellow bubble in the middle of a blue fill ?

Wow does micheals sell decos usually because I have looked a few times but never seen em, although I do see prismas a lot. If they do, what aisle would they be on? I've seen fabric decos but they aren't even paint markers lol.

I use Elmer's Painter markers.
They come in like 3 or 4 different sizes and a shit load of colors. None to big but perfect for bbooks. You can get them at like Michaels for 3 bucks for one.
But they're much cheaper if you use the five finger discount. I recommend using the discount.

idk man thats genuinly a tough choice....
dont know about touch, i do hear that otr's are worthy
i like how you get 60 with the touch though, unlike the otr
but otr is cheaper....
depends on how much money your wanting to spend, and your style or work based on the colors you want to buy.
if you want to spend the money, go for touch, there are more colors, and a color chart.
as for which set, thats up to you. thats all i know though, hope i helped:D

what the fuck happened to them "Design" markers..? they were the fuckin best...I like them chartpacks too...prismas do the job just as good as all the other shit....I heard them otr touch knockoffs are dookie....I hear the fineline tip dries out really quick....and the wide end makes streaks when you're filling in....stick with the chartpacks/prismas/tria/copics...easy to grab and nice flavors....they have em on sale all the time too-for those who buy em....matter of fact,a brand new big-ass dick blick just opened up near my crib....muaaaahhaaaahhaaaaa.........poor fuckers.....they got a bunch of fuckin idiots working there...i asked where the dry pigment was and the bitch was like "i just started working here"...dumb ho...i didn't ask her all that...i still wanna know how you get a job at a art supply store and not know what pigment is...answer that fuckin question for me...plus i murked the stupid bitch at the register real nice...6 cand of montana gold,a 5-pack of canvas board,24 caps and a sketch pencil AND the dick blick "preferred customer" card for $14.99...i just kept asking all kindsa questions and makin her nervous and she only rang up one can and the canvas boards....fuckin genius...sorry for the long post...but i'm proud my questions/confusion technique worked so well....lol !

i have touch and prismas... Touch markers suck, the middle of broad tip is dried out, so outside is thick, inside has no color... as well as the fine point dried out. ive only had them for like 3 months, and i dont really use them that often, and yes the caps were always on.,

prismas work great, smooth fills, perfect.

and i use paint markers to make light reflections, and black colored pencil for shadows on top of marker.

and i use highlighters alot too, theyre nice bright colors for quick fillins, tryin new styles. nice and easy and cheap.

touch twins are pretty decent but a 12 pack will run you about 30 bucks which is about the same price as the new otr's and they're pretty sick too. If you're having problems with your markers bleeding get a better book. paper quality makes all the difference and black books tend to last longer than your markers hence, a smarter investment

well I have really only done like put down a

copic or letraset, like stevie boy says- letraset tria are the ones..
I havnt read the thread so this might already have been said but it is all about the paper......get yourself a copic bleedproof pad. no bleed and unlike the pens you can get them cheap, 7,$10.
And ^^^ someone up there was slating Crayola pens....check out the crayola washables (these are for under 3's,so you can get the ink out of sofas and my carpet) they are water based so you can wet the pen after you have laid on a colour and get good shading effects, or wet a kitchen towel and lift the pigment out...telling you now, you will not get a better filling pen for 4,$6 for twelve.

I use Uni Paints for fills and the Uni Super Paint marker for outlines.
They work great for me. But when you first get them, make sure you shake for about 2 minutes and then press down on blank paper until ink starts coming out.
You should get them!

I love it at the stores in our area. Even if you are rightfully one of the first in line, everyone just glares at you like you shouldnt be there. I especially loved last year when I got a digital camera on sale at KMart. Got the last one, and everybody flipped. Then, the 2GB SD cards were on sale for like 12, I think. I had to make several attempts at getting over to their location because it was a popular spot for the elderly to hang out for some reason.

yea my one4alls kick the living fuck outta anything ive ever used before... theyre paint markers that actually last and the nib never gets soaked or dry... perfect... i also use OTR prisma-style markers, never used prismas before but ive looked at them in stores and i can imagine them being a lot like OTR... use canvas paper blackbooks though or ur shits gonna bleed, and its a must with the one4alls because u straight cant write on normal paper with those, u can only do like one thin layer or it tears up the paper quick.

Well i have a little taste in style. Depending on what I use, I use deco's for pieces and like throwies and stuff, Prisma's I would use for outlining or tagging but I would mainly use prisma's to do pieces in my blackbook.

jackpot, found em laying around my house
workes prety good so far

For those of us too poor to afford anything but printer paper this is no good. They ruin the paper and you can't fade or blend. Also, trying to darken your lines only ends up flaking the paper off in this weird way. It like eats it bro.

For those of you who can afford to drop seventy bucks, a basic Grog Cutter kit can really go a long way. I like mine. =D

i use artmarker markers for the book, they bleed thru alittle but not as bad as other brands and they are not too $$$ prisma would be my first choice tho.

This website (http://carpediemstore.com/listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=80) has Copics and Prismas for really cheap. What do you guys think of the Copics?

HRbN
03-08-2010, 06:41 PM
there very similair to prismas. However you can order the ink alone and actually blend your own colors and fill there empty markers they sell and have unpresedented artist freedom at your fat little finger tips. On the real though their good markers, they got XL's too that are like 3/4 of an inch i think
