Prismas are nice, but are expensive if you can't them. I go with Copics. They don't bleed like the Prismas usually do in my blackbook.

Copic (http://www.copicmarker.com/)
That's the Copic website. Check out the gallery, it features some raw shit. I would suggest racking but I just got slammed with a fine so...go ahead and buy them.

i usuall just use pencil i like mechanical sometimes cuz it realy gets that detail without having to constantly sharpen the pencil. and sharpies thin tips usually i sometimes use prisma colored penicls but i havnt i have a brandnew box and i dont feel like sharpening (so ill use anything that doesnt have anything to do with sharpening lol)
yeah yeah... i don't suggest sharpies simply becuase they bleed worse than a 12 year old having her period fo the first time. if you want to get a nice thick black line for a cheap cost i highly suggest using any sort of thin felt-tip pen. felt-tips get a sick line as well as no bleeding. as for colour? you can't beat a nice marker set, but everyone knows how dirty expensive they are...my recomendations? use pencil crayons. they work really well, espescially if you're not really macking up some proffesional pieces but want to test out some styles.

crayola is good for blackbooks, its cheap and it doesnt leak as bad as sharpies, wider tip tho

Sharpies and Touch markers... But the sharpie is only for the outline. If you want to fill with a sharpie it's sure that it will "bleed".

Deco markers are awesome except for the fact that they bleed through your pages really bad. They come in like 300 different colors and sizes. they have some really tiny ballp[oint paint pens which are awesome for detail.

Prisma felts or Letraset promarkers
pencil
eraser
gel pens assorted colors
pilot fineliner
Sanford Sharpie assorted sizes and tips
ITOYA calligraphy pen
KOH-I-NOOR Rapidograph adjust size pen
That's my basic arsenal, I pretty much am like akid in a candy store when I hit an art store standing in the pen/felt aisle.
A good spot to buy shit is ebay, I find good deals on there for most stuff.

I'm not a big fan of stealing high end art supplies. The good stuff is only at selected stores and personally I don't want to get banned for stealing stuff. Art is my drug and if I got banned from my drug store and wanted some new fresh felt colors or whatever I would look pretty stupid standing outside with my loot asking some nanny to bootleg my pens because I was stupid enough to rip them off and get banned.
If your gonna steal, hit the big stores. If you're really passionate about urban arts and excelling your skillz you need to realize that the pimping art stuff ISN'T at walmart but at specialty art stores who are mostly independently owned. Kinda like buying NY thins, if you steal from the only store in town that sells them and you get banned from the store you're stuck. Although if Walmart started selling caps they'd be robbed blinder than the 5cent aisle at 7/11. Lots of people steal Krylon but not many writers steal Montana's-its a respect thing.

 if you steal your art supplys, and get caught and youve allready been caught for graff, you are just giving graffiti a worse name than it all ready has, and we dont need that kinda publisity. but as for me i use gel markers, or i use this matelic marker my art teacher gave me, it doesnt leak through, i dont know what there called, but you get them at office depot for like .90 cents, but there like half the size of 'on the run' markers and run out fast.

yo Geez, seriously man, good words. i think well all think about that a little more now..
COPIC markers are the most high quality marker i have ever used. They blend well and work awsome details. They are refillable and the inl lasts preaty long. they dont fade or smudge.
However they are like $6.50 a pop and that a heavy price for a blackbook marker, and their difficult to rack if ur not a pro :P

no point to addin this.. ctrl-z and ctrl-y should apply in the real world.

damn... .... what the fuck is up with all you k1dS that be buying your shit at the store... ever heard of coping your shit....??? <_< also...other markers that are opaque like deco markers are "painters" you can get them at Aaron Brothers or Michaels or Joan's.... most likely to be in the marker section next to the deco or where they have the markers that shake. They are exactly like deco's except without the whole runing thru the page problem.
prisma'a are already sick on blackbook material...never use shapries (obviously) cuz they bleed throught thepage...if your gonna top off ur work with lining i suggest the .5 or .7 pilot.

What i use alot is the Kimberly Watercolor Pencilsyou could make theme as bold as you want(first otline with color pincil then get a extra fine brush and dip in water then go ove the out line)or you could damp the paper with a sponge and make a fade with the color pincil.then you could blend the colors together. But you dont have to use water all the time you could use them like regular color pencils.they cost like 5.00(12 colors in a box)

 i use the extra fine sharpies for the detailed peices. Decos and prisma colors are really good, If you dont want it to bleed than just put a peice of printer paper under the page your hittin. I thind prisma color markers and pencils are really good. prisma markers are expensive but i just rack them from michaels. I racked 2 of the 24 color sets I just put them in a back pack and left.
toazt
05-28-2004, 11:33 AM
EDIT: I didn't see RealShitter's post when I started typing mine, he said pretty much the same thing as me in just a few sentences, my bad folks! :o
I got my first pack of primas off eBay, it was a 24 pack for about $35(USD), but the dude tried to jerk me so I had to call him and leave messages saying I was going to call the better business bureau and the police and shit, took me about a month but eventually I got them. so if you're not down with rackin, you can get a better deal on eBay...
Here in the states we got a huge arts & crafts chain called Michael's, I like to think of it as the free art store, I'm not really down with racking on a whole, but if the place is practically begging to be robbed, well, sometimes I just can't help myself. Last time I went there I strolled in with an empty backpack, copped a 48 pack of the prismas, as well as some decos and microns, strolled outta there the same way I came in 'cept my bag was full, no problem at all...
As for bleeding, I got half size sketchbook (probably 8'' x 5'' or something?) , so I fold a 8 x 11 sheet in half and put it underneath the page I'm lacing, so bleeding isnt a problem. Deco's are pretty tight, I like them for forefields and shit (I've never had a problem with them bleeding either). For outlines I like to use Pigma Microns, no ones mentioned them, but I'd assume you folks got them in the CA... micron's are crazy dope, china white type shit...
thats my 1/50th of $1 right there...

yo. does no one use "perma paque" s ?? those shits kill. i dont know, they run out fast on paper though cos the paper soaks it up. For black booking i recomend perma paques though. also, i heard of a marker that holds the same color no matter how many times you go over it. they also layer. sounds like a paint pen to me, but i heard not. ill find the name. those sound tight.

GO TO MICHAEL'S AND RACK PRISMA COLORS!!!
NUFF SAID..
I use strictly Prisma Colored Pencils, I've got about 4 Prisma Markers that I've been playing around with and their not bad better then the crayola and mr.sketch markers I've used. Bleeding really isnt a problem at all, I just always have about 50 pieces of paper tucked in my book for when people ask me to draw them shit or when I don't feel like filling my book with total crap.

i use prismacolor markers and i love the color... they do bleed to the next page though so use like a thick paper underneath what u trying to color in.
with prismas you cant draw over with a lighter colour so you can only do so much.... wack an artist needs the freedom

Prisma are great pens but they dry out to quick for me, so lately I've been buying Letraset promarker series. You can buy them in singles not like prismas where you have to buy a box set.
I would recommend the Letrasets over the prismas, both are around the same price but one lasts longer.
My only bad comment is that the Letraset felt bleeds a little more than Prismas.
I also use a 'bleed sheet' under every page when sketching.

prizams are the best period u can get them at michchels jus steal them they are easy to jack
peisams marker are better becase like craolya markers the dont smear and and like craola like if u use yellow next to a black line or any color they the black does not smear on to the yellow market

I`ll put it to you straight. If you use crayola, you belong back in kindergarten.
Prisma is the hottest non-paint marker PERIOD. There`s no debate about it. Look at quality work done with prismas and realize how many techniques can be applied to these things. Prisma gets a bump for life.

wwell i've been writing for a year now...i figured thats just below average for ym age (16) but i mainly use prismas...at first i started with decos but i just stopped liking them when i found out about prismas.....prismas and AD are almosr the exact same thing...but the thing is about graff is that writers use the most expensive stuff so its harder for toys and shit to keep up especially if they have no money and cant really jack anything....
so basically wut im saying is that maybe using what u got and knoing how it marks should do good for u ....i only use prismas cuz i can jack them easily from aarons brothers and they are nothing but go0d...i thingk i must of stole at least about $300 (u.s) in markers and that only got me like 100+ markers....
just stay up....

[QUOTE] i don't suggest sharpies simply becuase they bleed worse than a 12 year old having her period fo the first time.
LMAO, SAME HERE, I USED TO USE DECO'S BUT THEY ARE WORSE THAN SHARPIES AND IF YOU USE THEM LONG ENOUGH YOU GET HIGH OFF THE SMELL, IM GOOD WITH THE PRISMA'S CUZ THEY AINT THAT BAD.
i used to use COPIC, but now im trying out the chartpak markers. chartpak has a really nice opaque look once they dry. my art store sells them individually so i go on ~$100 racking runs every month or so...

if your worried about bleeding, just put a scrap sheet underneath the page your doing. prismas are the best, they blend easy and layer nice.

yeah yeah... i don't suggest sharpies simply becuase they bleed worse than a 12 year old having her period fo the first time. if you want to get a nice thick black line for a cheap cost i highly suggest using any sort of thin felt-tip pen. felt-tips get a sick line as well as no bleeding. as for colour? you can't beat a nice marker set, but everyone knows how dirty expensive they are...my recomendations? use pencil crayons. they work really well, espescially if you're not really macking up some proffesional pieces but want to test out some styles.

i use an assortment, i got these funky fine liners that u can rub out with the eraser on the cap, they're pretty sweet, but usually im using these weird brush markers... its like using a paintbrush, thats how easy they move across the page. i think berol make 'em. (yeah yeah i know its a berol but hey, it works.) generally tho i prefer to sketch out with any good pen i find, especially biros. call it lame if u want but i found a good one at a work training course so jacked that and sketched til the ink ran out.

I use some permapaque's for simple sketches and shit, but when it comes to coloring pieces, I draw an outline with a black permapaque, then fuck with fills and colors in Adobe Photoshop. You can try all kinds of different shit with it, and you can sample the same colors you got availible with spray paint in real life, so the colors will match better than markers.
Then you can print the shit out and bring it with you, and if you get caught I guess you could say you aren't a writer, you printed the shit off the internet and you were trying to copy it or some shit.

prisma'a are already sick on blackbook material...never use shapries (obviously) cuz they bleed throught thepage...if your gonna top off ur work with lining i suggest the .5 or .7 pilot.
i dont understand why people say this; sharpies bleed like half as much compared to markers like chartpaks or prismas. thats why prismas are so nice; they bleed to the point where they blend together so that you dont get visible stroke marks. sharpies work fine, if you can move your hand quickly; when you stay in one place for too long with a sharpie, well thats when you start to get bleeding problems.

Maybe if you guys have an AC MOORE around hit that shit up. NO sencsers, no camera or anything. Im only 15 no job or anything so i just go there and fill up on Panity markers or Deco Color. The colors are pretty solid but i mean if your just workin on some thowies or something they're great. If you're working on peices I dont know what to tell you i had the same question and got the same answer from everyone..... Get Prisma Double ended markers. :)

I just use sharpies or crappy roseart markers that you can get 50 for 8 dollars
just put a piece of crappy paper under the page your coloring and it will bleed 2 crappy paper and leave the next one without dots of leftover color

or you can just drain the ink from these and you them as color for home made markers add Proffesional white paint (not crayola) and alchol to make it permanent.

Indeed, Sakura Permapaque markers are dope. Shin-Han Touch markers are good too, they bleed through the paper though.

if you need a cheap way to black book use crayola gel markers ... i know i know (CRAYOLA fucking sucks and its true, but in this case) they give you a glossy finish they work almost like paint markers but dry alot faster ...... i still use fine point paint markers they the shit for sketching

ok i didnt want to start a topic over this so im asking here.
ive been using shitty sharpies for a while now and they piss me off. im so limited by the colors and they dont blend at all. im looking into getting prismacolor markers but at my local craft store and they were extremely expensive ($22 for a 6 pack and $42 for a 12 pack). so does anyone know a store online that has them for cheap. i found this store but it looks so ghetto.

Prismas are nice, but are expensive if you can't them. I go with Copics. They don't bleed like the Prismas usually do in my blackbook.
Don't listen to this guy. Prismas are cheaper than copics and don't bleed as much.
decocolor paint markers, medium tip.
if you have a michael's i highly suggest them because they are easy to cop. they work well on books and if you arn't in the mood to carry around your OTR, they'll do the job. also, nice color choices.

I emailed the copic marker site and I said I formed an anime club and I said if they can donate some markers ... I acted reeeaaal nice so they think I am a teacher or sumthing... so maybe I will get some free markers!
all I need em for is sketching... who the hell would go bombing with those... haha!
BTW, when I use sharpies in my blackbook, I put a safety paper in the back of the page I am coloring on so it won't go on the other pages. saftey first kids!

if its just for sketching get waterbased markers not alchohol based cos they leave streaks so all ur pieces look like throwups fills unless you colour the fuck out of ur paper

i use letra-set markers, theyre alchohol based and couldnt have a smoother fill, leaves no streaks unless you do a line, then wait 10 minutes and do another.
