Holy crap man were do you get prints that big!?

50748
You have to set up a large file in Adobe Illustrator or any software that can do vector art. When you print it you need to activate the TILE PRINT feature so you can print the whole thing off on 11x17's or 8.5X11's then you tape it together and fill in the edges with permanent marker. Suuper cheap even at Kinkos if you print black and white

I just put up a piece but the paint I've been using (Grog Full Metal) is just not taking to the wall too well. The paper worked fine when I was using Sharpies but I've started doing bigger pieces and Sharpies don't even last for half of the work. So, I was wondering if there was any other sort of paint anybody could suggest that would work a little better? Links would be greatly appreciated. Also, could anybody please send me some links for a UK site where there are good brushes. I need a hand brush and an extension poled brush if possible. Thank you!

Here, these are some that I put up not too long ago. Some how it stuck and has for a while even with my shitty "starters batch" batch of paste and the horrible surface.
I think is it because of all the glues I had mixed in with this batch.

I have a question, forgive me if this was answered in here but 89 pages is a lot to read. I get the concept is everything excpet making the posters them selves, you some guys are saying draw them with a marker and then make copies, well how do some these come out perfect? do they generate them on the computer? or do they draw them then touch them up? i would like to come up with something and atleast touch it up on the computer so i can have consistancy and shit and then make mass copies. Also as ow the hell do you guys maked 10 foot poster? i read about how to get the paper but there is no way you guys are drawing all these with sharpies see where im getting at? I would like to mass produce about 3 different size poster a small one (maybe helf the size of a peice of paper) a bigger one about the size of standard paper and a big one about 6 foot tall and 4-5 feet wide. any suggestions?

Kwotes
02-28-2012, 12:45 PM
you can make them all sorts of different ways, i use photoshop to make the posters and go to kinkos to print them out and adjust the sizes like you said. i havent ever put up one that was more than 5 feet tall yet as im still a novice and am learning how to get faster and more efficient when i go out. but i have some friends who are pretty legit at this and they all use photoshop or illustrator for making the print to their liking and perfection, then you can print them out at kinkos. if youre doing a huge print - 10' by 10' or so, sometimes youll have to print out the picture in 4 different sections, i havent done this but most likely someone here can give you some advice on that area. hope this helps

if you have a picture that is too small to print massive you can make it into a vector using vector magic this jsut means when you nlow it up its not blury and shit you can also use a program called Rasterbator it makes the picture into 100s of little circles and then you can aslo use it to spilt the picture into like 20 bits of A4 and then you just paste the A4 together and you have a massive poster the biggest i have done was 1.5 meters by 2 meters took me like 5 mins to paste :)

sofargone561
02-29-2012, 07:24 AM
Ok cool, ya i saw that rasterbator program yesterday ill have to look into it. Im going to play around with smaller wheat pastes for a bit I am just tryna gather as much into as possibly becuase I want them to be high quality and not look like shit and i want to be able to mass produce them in all sizes.

sofargone561
02-29-2012, 12:26 PM
oh ya one other thing, say i got to kinkos... what paper to i ask them to print it on?

Killerbogan
03-01-2012, 12:46 AM
here in austraila the biggest printing shops will do is A0 and thats 1189 mm by 841 mm so thats pretty big if thats still not big enough you can paste 4 bits together and thats massive when i went it cost about 5 bucks for the print :)

Was interested in some of your guy's ways of stay inconspicious when you're out. Not saying a big 4 meter poster but just a few small foot or so ones, what would you keep you're small amount of paste in, and would you be satisfied with just a normal like 1 1/12" brush? and where am I keeping all this on me without looking like im obviously carrying shit..

Thanks

i use a shoulder bag bought it form an opp shop for like 5 dollars its really godd for climbing becasue all my you can hold on with one hand and paste with the other i put about 1 litre of paste in a small container used for preserving foods you can also use honey containers just go to the supermarket and look arond you will find something and a brush 8 cm width i wear a hoodie and i dont bring anything valuable phone wallet .ect just incase i have to run away i can just leave everything. speed is stealth so the faster you can paste the better some stuff i did recently ;)

THank man! :D Going out in a bit got a 12 page 8.5" x 11" poster going up somewhere. I'll HOPEFULLY get flicks..Im always leery about cameras at night..But I may just go at dusk..Its pretty secluded so i'm not to worried. Been in using stickers for years but i've always wanted to get into wheatpasting just never knew how to bring the shit but I mean it isn't fuckin rocket science. I just like to see other artists input.

Thanks again. Hopefully pics will be up tonight or tomorrroww.. Also printed another like 15 printer paper sized ones..

Thanks i just throw all my shit in a double bagged plastic shopping bag...like u get ur groceries in ... i mean in certain situations u would look wierd carrying in- ex.- if ur in a secluded aread at 3 in the morning with a shopping bag.... but if u do ur pastes in broad daylight on in any kind of urban area or area thats not completely dead at any hour of the night- u just look like ur carrying groceries or sumtin... nd a cop dont think twice about a kid with a plastic bag walking up the street... but a kid who got a black backpack on or a backpack at all for that mater- looks far more suspicious.. thats just my take on it ...sometimes i even throw my cans in a plastic bag when i go painting... just much more inconspicuous

I'm not good at wheat pasting at all but I got a few tips for ya. If you are using the stander size paint brush the. Try to find a plastic container that will fit in your back pocket with a brush in it. Keep your shirt tucked over you brush when walking around. I use a 25 cigarette plastic container and usually keep it in my back or side leg pocket. For posters if your using standard size paper I sometimes just put them in a magazine. If your using real some ones keep em in a birthday card envelope.

First EVER posters I've done outside with wheatpaste. That day was FUCKING windy as shit and that big poster (12 pages) was a BITCH to do...I had JUST enough paste...My main issue was timing and transporting paste. I just filled a gatorade bottle but I want to figure out a way to like get QUICK and easy access to the wheatpaste and brush/roller, for doing quick like one or two sheet posters...Any more ideas? All other suggestions were great thank you! I also just photoshopped some joseph koney posters I may upload a few pics of them, I haven't got any up but I printed like 15 3x5" stickers of the poster image aswell..But I am worried that printer ink will just bleed to shit once rain hits it...

Printer ink Dosent bleed it fades over time though. i would get a container that is big enough so that your brush fits inside of it. What i do is i put all my stuff in a shoulder bag then i open up my paste contanier inside my bag and put my brush in it i go to the place i want to hit take my brush out of my bag paste the surface then i get the paper from my bag and stick it on then paste over it heres a picture 57531

Yeah tonight I shall go out. But I dunno, Im FULLY supportive to capturing this man, but the lil nerd behind the movie certainly is manipulating peoples emotions. But I guess it's what has to be done to get people to support the cause, But I sure as hell wouldn't donate directly to that organization...I'm sure has hell going to help make the atrocities more visible and real to my city.

ive been using 3m spray mount, just because its fast and we have 5 cans in my basement for some reason. But is wheat paste a lot better, will it work on painted surfaces well, and will it clog a spray bottle if it dries in the nossile. And this looks like a poster but i cant tell if its the background or not. 62966

When you make wheat paste, will the pot that you make it in have a layer of wheat paste left over? I don't want to use a pot and then later have to throw it out because I can't cook in it anymore.

I believe some pots are better like i've made a batch where the bottom was so sticky. I may not have added enough water. But it defiantly was really hard to get off.

Ok, I don't wanna piss off any hardcore pasters out there but I'd like to know if theres a paste recipe that is temporary (say a couple of months) and that will not harm the building or leave ugly marks when its taken off.

Sev
