I didn't say that going to concerts doesn't support the artist... But ripping off their albums DEFINTIELY does not support the artist. Gettin into a show costs what...? $5? Maybe $10 in some places?

An album costs more than that... So by ripping off their $15 - $20 album, you are cheating them of more money than you actually helped them get by going to their show.

I mean, shit... you do what you do. And nothing I say is going to change that. But at least think about the fact that these guys are trying to make some money off of what they're doing... And you're not helping them keep going by not paying.

But this thread also helps people out in different areas get to know the underground stuff, the local artists and whatnot. Shit, I would of never known about Dutchmassive if it werent for Gesus postin it up (dutchmassive being from florida), and Ive posted up some local shit from my area before such as Longevity Crew.
And whenever, if ever, these artists that I've been introduced to come in my area, I'll be sure to go see em live.

That's understandable then, man. If you're gonna listen to some of the stuff on here, and then go out and buy their album... Or go and see them live numerous times. That's awesome.

Part of my problem is that I have quite a few good friends who have released albums... And I see how much hard work they put into getting that shit out. before rap became known as music, it was just the words people were saying regarding their life... therefore not necessarily a music genre, but an element of something: hip hop. but at the same time, emcees are often representing the 4 elements (some say more), therefore they are a hip hop music and not simply just a rap.


no matter what the type of music i'm enjoying, i always feel better purchasing product directly from the artist..

too bad i switched schools and only about 4 out of city acts roll through here in a year... i always gotta scratch together the cash to go to a show in toronto. hip hop shows require more money for me than just the ticket.

indie artists that are popular like MF doom and atmosphere are pretty well of actually. and groups like JMT aint too bad either... but ya most ppl who got involved in the underground in the last 5 years i dont think were doing it for the money or fame.
