Yeah that is a vinyl i'm painting.
I keep getting orbs on some of the shots im taking, i thought it was maybe cuz then lense was dirty, but it only happens on certain shots.

I like this shot, but straighten it up.

If you're using a filter already, try taking if off. I had the problem where I had a low quality UV filter on my lens, and point lights were causing reflections between the lens and the filter. Also try stopping your lens down a little bit more. (that doesn't have anything to do with the orbs, but it might get you a more pleasant picture.)

if i had to guess i'd say he didn't do anything. certain lights operate like super fast strobe lights. there's a few street lights around my town that work that way. i always wave my hands around when i go near them. its cool.

Ambient light, no flash. Not sure if its a light or a window but either way hes being back/top lit by a continuous light source. Shooting with cranked iso or really fast film there is enough light on the subject to expose the drumstick as its in motion.

not really. That shot was on film, and no flash. I've wondered how that drumstick got staggered like that myself, because all the shots from that night are like that.

The best explanation that I can come up with is that the club had a fluorescent backlight, which actually turns on and off 60 cycles per second (due the the 60hz AC power) and that's why it's staggered in motion like that. I really like the effect. If it was an incandescent light, it would have just been motion blur.

ares you pretty much got it right, it's 3200 film and probably in the range of 1/30-1/60 sec (i don't really know for sure) but it's definetly because of fluorescent lights.

Try getting the flashes completely out of the frame, also try shooting outdoors in the daytime. I've notice you limit yourself to either inside, or outside at night. It will add some colour and interest to your shots. They kind of all look the same a little bit in terms of pose, location, feel etc, I feel like every band's photos should be very different because every band is very different you get me?
Keep with the HDR but lower the strength a bit so it's less over the top.

i feel you on the night time and indoor shit, lol..it was funny because we were finding a location AS the sun was setting and then it was dark

i definetly wanna do shit in the daytime but i got this nocturnal ass life and it just fuckin sucks :/

im just now messing around with like "themed" promo shots, im still feeling around with promos..i wanna get the basics down first and get used to them before i focus on other shit, ya know? i got this idea for this pop punk band im supposed to shoot next month and its gonna be like..a mechanics shop and their all in mechanics outfits wrenching on some car..i got a photoshoot tomorrow with this band, im gonna try to think outside the box of what i usually do with promos, i always have a difficult time placing the band and my flashes correctly, i always get a nasty shadow on someones face and someones not lit properly

i know man, for some reason, no matter what, ill always have a god damn shadow on someones face, even when it doesnt even make sence that there is, i place my lighting the right way, move people, but ill have a fuckin shadow

I'm actually quite new in this photography shied, but any advice would be good. I think it was my first time taking flicks, (if you don't count all the pictures of pieces/walls and very random action shots time to time) Where to start at etc?

Btw, this is retarded, but how can i adjust image angles? In that photo i just posted, it might be annoying that the pole where the writer is tagging isn't really going all straight, and I would like to edit the picture in a way, that it would go so. But maybe my wishes are too retarded? ..dunno

well it looks to me like that pole is naturally bent, but if you get photoshop cs4 or cs3, i know theres lens correction tools in there and you would beable to straighten up that pole

work on better angles 1st, composition...think about a shot before you take it and strategicaly place your subject or point of interest in an "interesting" place that will make the photo apealing

..god my keyboard sucks, w/e..i hate this shit

dont go out and buy a camera quite yet, continue using the camera you have now in the meantime until you get familiar with taking photos, then, i would suggest in buying a dslr, so you can really perfect your photos

well i took the pics, sent them over to them...well, the thing about fisheye pics is their dope, but obviously they dont make people torwards the edge of the pictures look too apealing, i used dxo to straighten out the edges but they liked that one better so...it is what it is, hahah

i used a 10.5mm fisheye on that

save the "don't get that camera, you're not good" shit. I want a new camera and already feel limited by my camera. i know a new lens will help a lot, but i work at best buy and can get real good financing and shit. so if im gonna get a new camera, now would be a good time.

What do you feel limited by with your D40? If you don't even know what lens will work with a D700 then why are you dumping 5 grand buying one?

5000 in my country, I don't think in US dollars.

If you want FPS why not get a D300s and save yourself the extra cost of full frame lenses?

D300s's shoot far faster than d700's. They are designed for sports and nature. And cropped sensors are better for sports because they turn a 200mm lens into a 300mm lens. Thats why pro cropped sensor cameras are still made like the new canon eos-1d mkIV.

Don't get full frame if you don't even know why you want it. D300s will suit your needs a lot more considering you shoot sports, and you won't need to sell any of your lenses. If you buy a D700 you will have to buy a full frame lens and they usually start at around a grand and upward if you want a decent one.

D700 FPS - 5 or 6 or something
D300s FPS - 8 with battery pack.

Both are 12.1MP

You gotta really just decide which system is better for you, one is not better than the other, they are just used for different purposes. Sports and wildlife guys still use DX because it makes their long lenses longer, and they shoot faster. Photojournalists use FX because they handle high ISO's better for avaliable light. You gotta decide first what kind of photography you will be doing and then buy the camera to suit.

I don't shoot sports or anything like that, but I might in the future. 6fps or 8 withe the grip is more than enough. I want a full frame so I can shoot better in low light conditions and a higher fps than what I have now so I can shoot in bursts and get a good shot let's say at a show. Word. D700 is 5fps though not 6. Thats only half a frame more than a D90. And its only 8FPS with the grip and the D3 battery which costs around 200$. D300 is 7fps without the grip and 8 with the D3 battery.

I thought you shot ice skating or whatever. D300 handles ISO very well, the best you can with cropped sensor. Very usable, trust me I owned one.

Guy I know who shoots band and is like a huge name in our scene highly recommends them. But I guess if I stay dx I won't have to worry about switching to my d40 for back up.
