D5000 is like a D40 mashed up with a D90. I'd say go with the D5000, or just save up for a D90.

I'm not sure what the d5000 is running. I can check at work tomorrow. Sometimes they are in bundles with a lens (usually 55-200 vr) witch saves u like 150 bux. And best buy can price match a bunch of places. Just gotta ask. Also, they can get lenses and shit from online shipped to the store for free.

nah... i dont think so. the ones thesecks posted from the forum, i couldnt say its that boring. maybe tedious to deal with cause theres alot of preparations and ofcourse a long exposure... just speaking for the ones as intricate looking as the couple stolen photos

You're a classic case of me 2 years ago. Thinking about gear more than taking pictures. Then I read about Cartier Bresson, who shot thousands of rolls of film on only a leica and a 50mm lens. THATS IT. If I were you I'd sell everything and stick with just your kit lens and the D40. it will take you much further because it's smaller and lighter. The bigger the camera only means the less you take it out, trust me, I NEVER take my D3 out. I use it strictly for work these days. My leica is my daily camera.

Shooting wide open on a shitty nikon lens in daylight causes diffraction or a similar word I can't remember, which is probably the glow you see. Basically it means you can't shoot wide open in daylight without an ND filter or a better quality lens. The glow disappears when you hit around 2.8 or so.

They have no practical purpose. Only faster tele zooms have any purpose. In my opinion. Unless they are a specialised lens for sports, like the 300mm f/4 VRII which is mostly used on a tripod.

i havent had a huge problem with camera shake. and i usually dont shoot wide open with the lens anyways. i see where you're coming from but for the price, its an ok zoom lens. still, i dont use it enough lol

None of those cameras were top of the line... IMO a camera that both takes photos and does video is pointless. Get a video camera and buy a dslr, I personally think point and shoots are just about the worst thing you can ever spend $300 on. And you won't have to stress on megapixels so much.

Some decent (in my opinion...) shit from my first two rolls. Pretty much just learned the basics from my dad, and went on a walk and whatnot.
After I got them developed, my friend helped me out and taught me some shit (rules of thirds, and a few other basic shit).
Used an SLR AV-1.

Half the reason we dont get caught...but to be fair 75% of what we do comes under 'civic trespass'....trespass isnt illegal in the UK....its a bit of a loophole in the law which well...works well for us...but in other respects it works well for terrorists, thiefs etc as well...
The law states that the land owner has to ask you to leave 3 times and if you refuse to leave, he can then call the police....if the police ask you to leave and you refuse...they can either arrest you or force you to leave....
But if you just go 'yep i will go home' they cant do anything to you....unless you have some tools for breaking and entering etc...but if you literally jumped a fence, and just climbed something its completly legal....

But those tunnels in those photos we arent to sure what would happen....they are the power, internet, water, and gas utility tunnels for the whole of london....so i think shit would go bad....

usually long exposures...usually 30 sec...or more soemtimes on bulb using a remote and can be up to 5-10 mins....only as we have to light underground stuff with torches and what not....takes time sometimes to get around to lighting it all etc....

so i have been looking at a d300s for a while now and after i get a new car, i plan on getting it and some lenses. but then i was thinking if i will ever go full frame. like i know there is no real reason to worry about it but shit idk. i dont want to get all of the gear and then a few years later, i want to go full frame. it seems like the only way to upgrade from the d300s is to go full frame. i know we have talked about it before and shit. would the full frame cameras ever be worth looking into?

DX is not going anywhere, anytime soon. DX is still used by many many pro's world wide, so as long as they keep bringing out DX lenses, they will be bringing out DX cameras. As I have said before, they are used by sports and wildlife people who like how their long lenses can go even longer on DX, also the smaller sensors allow HD video to film longer without burning out than full frame sensors, from what I hear, I don't know much about the subject. Don't worry about buying DX. It's not gonna phase out or anything in the next 5 years.

Medium format in the professional world is out of reach for most. Medium format 40megapixel sensors go for around 8 grand and up. large format sensors like the one the architecture photographer I worked with used, was 80 megapixel and was around 50 thousand dollars.

4 x 5" is the dominant format for serious landscape photography. The photo magazines all talk about digital cameras because their advertisers are digital. Look at the tech info behind the leading landscape photographers portrayed in Outdoor Photographer magazine or at my links page and you'll see most carry 4 x 5" cameras into the wilderness.

This $300 used 4x5 is sharper than a new $3,000 Hasselblad and worlds beyond a $5,000 Leica or Contax. 4x5 film is also CHEAP. Sure, it costs $3 per shot instead of $0.50 for 35mm, but you never can shoot as much 4x5. I blow off a few hundred dollars in 35mm with my motor drive 35mm camera each weekend, but I still haven't finished off the $70 box of 4x5 film I bought 3 years ago. 4x5 is so far beyond 35mm that you just won't appreciate it until you shoot it.

So I have been doing a lot of thinking about what I wanna do with my life. I kinda wanna give photography a serious shot. Now its just a matter of what in particular. I'm thinking about trying to find a local magazine to shoot for. I really like portraits and cars and music. Anyone have any advice? Thanks

Yep, you gotta have a top quality portfolio. That means lots and lots of really good photos. Then you gotta make it into a presentable format, whether it be a folder (gay) or a perfect bound book. there is no emailing or websites here, it's all phone calls meetings and physical portfolios. You gotta start meeting people and getting contacts. Takes a long time.

I managed to meet someone from MTV nz and I'm now working for them doing event stuff. It's gay as but it pays very very well.

Get good prints made, go to a print shop, and get a nice book made. Maybe for an extra little something, you can get paperback photobooks made on snapfish, and give whoever your meeting one of those when you go in to give them something to look back on. But I don't know what you have for money.

no matter what your still gonna need one thats the cream of the crop like 10 photos you know, what if they ask you to bring a range of photos. your not gonna go up with 4 books of many photos you know.

Slow at the moment ! but thats just how it goes !!! its only growing. The MTV gigs make around 750$ per hour but they only come every couple weeks, but thats enough for me to live off for that week, plus i make websites and other things here and there that get me through.

You're gonna need to do a lot more shooting to get up to the standard that magazines will be seeing from other portfolios. Not hating just saying. You're going to be going up against seasoned pro's.

yeah, i hear ya ak. its hard getting into the game lol. im not going for huge magazines (though it would be nice) I don't really want to shoot in a journalistic style, i want to either get into fashion/glamour or automotive stuff. idk though. all the reading i have done says you need med format or film. makes me think why do they even sell dslrs? haha

I think the point I was trying to make was YOU piss off. Pick three or four shots out of the bunch that were the best and post them. Not five different angles of the same building and the same shot with different exposure.

Its called learning mother fucker, and there isn't a repeated building shot; Pay attention if your going to fucking insult somebody. Also with the different exposures, The first one i took looked very dark on my camera so i changed the exp. and if you noticed the question above the photos instead of just scrolling through the photos and being an asshole you would see: "which one is best out of these two?" We're not all pros here you fucking asshat, how about you critique some photos instead of saying they don't need to be here.
