So I just picked up an FE2. Everything is fine when I load in the film and everything else seems to be fine, but in the exposure window it just stays on "21" with the 1 being the color red no matter how many exposure i go through. It just stays there. Someone help please.

Probably a broken frame counter. Send it to a camera shop to get fixed, or just forget about it. So long as it's still taking photos does it really matter knowing how many photos you've taken?

I'm not too worried about it. I'm just anal about the stuff I buy, everything needs to be right. I'm just scared I might have to waste a frame or two as i make sure I'm actually taking photos for the fist few actuation. Nonetheless I'm excited to be getting into film now. So long as when I push back the film lever and see the button where the ISO dial in move in unison with it, its loaded correctly, right?

Yes. after loading the film and closing the back, lift up the film rewinder and turn it anticlockwise until it gets a bit stiff.
Then advance the film twice, if the film rewinder is spinning when you advance the film then you're good to go.

Ah good choice man, FE2 is a dope camera. Mine served me well but I'm actually about to sell it cause I copped a Leica M6 and I need to get some cash back in my pocket/invest in developing gear for home.

and Monkey all those flicks are different films ranging from 60iso to 800 iso, shot with an Olympus OM-1. Here was my setup:
1,2&4: 400 iso Fujifilm
3&5: expired 800 Fujifilm
6: expired 60 that I found at some ghetto place dirttt cheap

I'm pretty religious about never using any automatic setting on anything.

SHould probably have gotten an FM2 then, so you can use it even without batteries. My FE2 fucked out on me so I am sour about them.
Got me one of these to play with for a while, cool little rangefinder, fully manual with shutter speed and aperture control, but full auto capability too.

A buddy of mine is selling this LowePro 202 Slingshot camera bag for a damn good deal. Brand new with tags still on it and everything. I'll probably be picking one up when I get a new camera in June/July.

Right now I carry my stuff in a small LowePro case that fits in my backpack with enough room to carry other stuff. I usually ride my bike into town to shoot so it works perfectly. Other than that I usually just wrap the strap around my hand a few times and carry it that way. Hardly ever put the strap around my neck unless I'm shooting from a position where I might drop the cam. BTW, I have some fresh shots I'm going to upload tonight so expect an update if I get some good ones out of the bunch. :cool:

I've got a photo backpack for my dslr kit, and I absolutely hate it. I have to deal with it because my side bag isn't big enough to carry dslr stuff, but it's such a pain in the ass to have to take the backpack off, change a lens / film / card / whatever, zip it up again and put it back on.

Obviously this is all personal prefrence, but I'd trade that backpack for a large side bag any day.

The only reason I like the photo backpack is for riding a bike or hiking.

Both are awesome, fully manual and automatic, some idiot sellers try to sell them for like $300 thinking they can trick some hipster, wait around for a reasonable price.

The only reason to buy a leica is for the feeling of holding a hand built german brass mechanical masterpiece in your hands, its just not the same if its electronic and digital. My dad has owned a leica m3 for a long time. That's the first and only rangefinder I have ever used. I do love the fact that even the m8 is hand assembled and still has brass top and bottom plates. The reason I want to go digital is because I will be traveling across the world for the next year and film would be a pain in the ass.

I agree the equipment does not make the photograph. As stated previously, I am leaving to travel for about a year. Most places I am going I don't speak the language nor do they have developing equipment. Selling my bulky dslr and investing in a hand assembled body that will last far longer is a good investment for me. As for the quality of my pictures, thats cool if you aren't into them.

no1 ever really needs to buy a leica in my opinion unless you are a full time photo journatlist from the 1960's and 70's or a full time hardcore street photographer they are purely luxury items, like a nice car or pair of shoes. I do agree though that if you don't know about light, if you aren't an expert in shutter speed and aperture combinations depending on lighting conditions, you don't know about depth of field and depth of field scales, you shouldn't really buy a leica. I truly realized how little I knew about real photography once I got my first leica. I learnt so much after using one for a year.

Plus M8's are shit because the crop sensor makes any nice leica lens look like shit because you lose so much bokeh, vignetting and depth of field qualities that you can only get from full frame and film.
I'd just get an X100 if you want a crop sensor non SLR viewfinder camera.

I built the thing to my liking..after riding fixed for years now..I've never had a problem with platform pedals, so why the hell would I change to straps when I'm not comforatable with them? Deep rims? Yes...because Chicago has the worst streets in the Midwest and after plenty of other wheelsets, these work great for me..alot tougher than any other wheelset..seat angle..I like it?, no brakes...I never put brakes on my bikes, whether its bmx or fixed gears..its my preference ...go cry about it

Then, take your broken camera, and while standing in the exact same place, focus on the same object and note the distance scale.

I'n not sure what this will prove other then the camera being off, but it's something to try so you can see just how out of whack it is.

Is it possible your just missing your focus? At 1.2 there isn't that much room for error. If your on 3200 film, and you can manage a 1/2000 shutter, why not lower the shutter and stop down your aperture giving you some more depth of field?

i know i could, but i have shot 1000's of photos on f1.2 and they are all good...and to be fair the depth of field at that distance is still enough to have the whole car in focus...so it doesnt bother em....

That means theres way less pressure, and if you fuck it up you don't feel as bad because they got a good deal out of it anyway.
Plus that way even if your photos are amazing, your next wedding you can charge the standard $1500+

you'll learn so much from you're first wedding. you gotta be ready to think fast and adapt to very fast changing situations...

you better know your camera and light in and out because for example, if the weather of the wedding is a beautiful clear sunny day, that usually means harsh ugly direct sunlight and ugly photos. are you ready for that? do you know how to deal with that?

Have my first solo wedding in July. I would recommend assisting with one first if you can.
I think wedding photography takes a lot of repetition to know how to get the shots the bride and family will want. The guy I assist for has it down to a science.
I've never met a pro wedding photog who wasn't a pretentious jack ass.
as for the harsh lighting, remote off camera flash is your best friend.

An assistant to follow you round with an off camera flash with a large softbox attached is good for creating even soft fill flash. Just pray you get an overcast day and shoot available light without flash. Always looks better in my opinion. I'm developping a bit of a style of using only available light even in my work, and only using flash if I'm forced to work in a very very dark environment.

Oh and most photographers are cunts, that's all just part of the industry, it's so competitive especially these days.
