Better be for the price tag.
You think its worth dropping 700 for a fisheye?
PERVERTO
09-24-2009, 11:00 PM
If you shoot a lot of events, parties etc or skateboarding and extreme sports. If you do neither, then definitely DO NOT buy it, and buy a wide angle instead. They are a lot of money to spend on a novelty, they have no practical purpose other than in skating etc.
PERVERTO
09-24-2009, 11:01 PM
Plus it's only viable if you shoot nikon. Because only nikon make a fisheye for their cropped sensor cameras, eg, everything below a D700. Canon only make a fisheye lens for cameras with full frame sensors eg 5D and upwards.
Thanks allot for that bif of info.
Man.. I should of honestly bought a Nikon huh?
What would be a legit site to get some lenses?
Cause I know at camera shop they overprice..
PERVERTO
09-24-2009, 11:10 PM
To each their own. I prefer nikon, but thats cos I'm used to them. Canon have some amazing lenses that Nikon don't have, mostly out of anyones price range, but still.
You CAN still buy the canon fisheye for your cropped camera, but you won't be getting the full effect of the fisheye with it.

mate, ive had my kit lens on my d40 for like 3 years now, ive only just bought a 50mm lens which is probably the cheapest of all lenses, so you dont need all these fancy lenses to take good shots, it just helps to give you more options

D40 is still expensive compared to buying a cheap nikon film SLR, they go for as little as 50$ and are often more sophisticated than a d40. Boom, done, you got a dope camera, buy a film and get it developed and scanned, film is good because the 36 exposure limit forces you to think about every shot, digital can make you snap happy and shoot boring shit just cos you can. A perfect example is this niggga chase jarvis, he made a book called 'the best camera is the one you have with you' and shoots all his shit on only an iphone.
http://www.chasejarvis.com/#s=0&mi=2&pt=1&pi=10000&p=5&a=0&at=0
Jenkins,
an issue with the d40 is that their default setting over exposes images, its jsut a fault with their software. (Notice the sky in your images is really washed out and white) Keep your exposure compensation to -0.7 to combat this, and your photos should come out a lot nicer. Check your manual if you don't know how to do this.
http://www.outthereimages.com/images/exposurecompensation_button_circle.jpg
That goes for D60's and D40x's too. I even do this on my D300, as I find the images come out nicer and with a lot more details.

my advice would be to just see what type of car it is your shooting, and try and create an image/atmosphere that goes with the car,
like with that white car i wanted to try and get a contrast between the whiteness and the grotty/grimey environment making the car stand out more. Look at the shape of the car aswell, and try and find similarities with the location

peter raven - i like the 2nd and 3rd one. The second one looks like something nice and colorfull in an ugly place. The 3rd one is really natural exept i don't like how the kid in the back is out of focus. I think if you focused on the background and made both of the kids kinda blurry it would look better.

I just learnt about using ND filters, which allows me to decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used in harsh sunlight. If you don't know what I mean, try shooting your 50mm at f/1.8 in daylight, the photos turn out horrible.
So now I'm real real happy, I had always wondered how shots like this were taken:

well since i moved to this city, ive known this street as a "dangerous" street, simply because people enjoy speeding on it, its very curvy, and the city planted lots of large trees in the middle
it was like 4th of july weekend 3 years ago driving home around 3 in the morning and all of a sudden i was stuck in stand still traffic....obviously abnormal because of the time
...i saw people getting out of their cars and walking over the hill and there smashed into a tree was a car...the driver, dead...blood was everywhere, and on the ground about 100 feet away was a guy screaming in pain with no leg, his leg was about 5 feet to the right of me...he was ejected and the driver of the car was decapatated from the hood being bent up upon impact and going through the windsheld and then through his neck, i stood there in shock for about 30 miniutes which just seemed like a miniute at the time...ill never forget the way the dude was screaming..was so fucked up
the other time it was snowing and i literally saw the car from the opposite side of the street lose control, hit the curb, flip over...and fly into oncoming traffic
that was fucking insane...didnt really stick around for that one but i heard 7 people died, the 3 people in the car that flipped over, and 4 in the other car that were hit head on by the other car, and then hit again by the second car that swerved to avoid the 1st car
the other 3 people were in critical condition

NO, don't buy that one. Buy the 35mm f/1.8 AF-S. The lens pictured will NOT auto focus on a d60. You have to buy AF-S or G lenses if you want autofocus. If you don't mind having to focus by hand everytime, then the f/1.8D above is fine.

I've heard of heaps of shutter lock up problems with the R4A's R2A's R3A's etc, the electronic shutter bessas suck basically apparently. (Check Youtube) Shouldn't have much trouble with the M bessas, but if I were you I'd wait and get a Leica M3, 10x better camera and will last you for life, whereas as a Bessa definitely won't.

I got that 50mm on my D40, I havent used it properly for something but if you do buy it, its best taking a few shots at different focuses because sometimes it looks in focus on the LCD but normally its not.
I got it more for an investment for any future cameras I get cus shits pretty hard to focus manually when its wide open but I got this with it, haven't been outside to get anything, I got it for portraits mainly. I've got these though, all in camera because there too shit to take any further

I dunno if you're being sarcastic or not, but one day you'll realize how dope this lens really is, the 50mm lenses have been the standard lens used by photographers since the 1920's, and you can get nothing sharper than a 50mm lens, zoom lenses of today especially on SLR's are not very sharp compared.

Around $4500US
Don't bother with them, they are overpriced and have cropped sensors.
M9 is king, but 10,000$. If you want to get into rangefinders, start with film. Have a look at Voigtlander Bessa R4M's and leica M3's. If you want to get into digi, get a DSLR.
Rangefinders are very different to SLRs.
Take a look at leica's website if you're interested:

ken rockwell is a good source, and lurk some photography forums.
Those pics were shot with a fast fisheye, so don't expect your pics to look like that off the bat.
The great thing about dslr's is that when you decide to get a film body you can get them on the cheap and still use most of your lenses (if you shop wisely)
PERVERTO

If you want a fisheye, get a nikon. Nikon are the only brand that make a fisheye for their cheaper cameras. Fisheyes are great for concerts, band shots. You really are gonna just have to fork out the cash if you are serious about it. Otherwise you'll just be spending twice the amount later replacing your amateur gear for pro gear.
Check out this site for great band shots, this guy uses alot of remote flash etc.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you can get outta that thing. Any ideas on what kind of film you're gonna use?
Yeah, I have around 20 spent films sitting in a drawer, waiting to be developed and then scanned once i get my scanner, of street shit. I had been using my little nikon EM which is reasonably small and quiet, but once I get my leica I'm gonna step my game up a lot more. I usually use 400ISO black and white ilford 36 exposure, jut whatever I can get the cheapest. Your yashica will be great for street shit, except the 40mm lens is quite zoomed in for shooting at the waist accurately. Yeah I got my 35/2.5 for street shit, and will get a 28/2 later on.

Nice, that's exactly why I got the yash. My film cameras are a canon elan2 with grip and a nikon fg, the canon is way too huge, and the nikon is alright I guess, but hard as a mofo to focus quickly, and the viewfinder sucks. Can't wait for your scanner to arrive. You develop at home?

Nope, I have absolutely no interest in developing and printing photographs, I find it tedious and boring. I will give my films into some photo place to get developed and scan the negatives myself. Yeah, I can't wait either, there's at least a year and half worth of photos in those films, it's gonna be a trip.

I hope they come out well, I have about 6 rolls of exposed xp2 400 that I gotta take to the lab. Only about 2 rolls are candids though.
