Okay listen up queerbags. No one musical genre is better than another, its all about personal preference. If you ask someone in Texas what the best music in the world is they will most likely say Country. Now you guys think thats garbage and the worst music in the world, but to them its the best. PERSONAL PREFERANCE ! You all love your rap and what not cuz thats your preferance, but that doesn't make it any better than another genre. And also JOUST you are a giant misinformed douchebag. If you call Vocal Trance the "underground hip-hop" of Techno or Trance, you obviously know ABSOLUTLY NOTHING about this genre of music and your one of the little fanboys you speak of in your own post.

Ask yourselves this, when you listen to your favourite artist or type of music, do you ever say to yourself "Oh my god this music is fucking unbelieveably insane" ?

I own a record label soley recording electronic music. And I am a dj my self. The only difference between the rave scene tech and mainstream tech is mainstream tech is a lot of sell out type shit! Second of all techno is the rave scene, mainstream shit like Darude, Kernkraft, ect is not rave culture or linked in many ways directally to the rave scene besides the fact that it is digitally produced.

Know your shit little man I know what I'm talking about and have performed at more raves than there are hairs on your head and underground tech is the rave scene you jackass.

I can't stand 90% of trance, and I'm tired of people using techno as a blanket term for all electronic music. Techno is a specific genre within electronic music. All that shit you hear on the radio has nothing to do with good underground electronic music. Trance is about as far from underground hip-hop that you can get.

your a fucking idiot arnt you. First off "queerbags" is not a word. Second i was refering to Vocal Trance as a better form of techo like underground hip-hop (in my fucking oppinion) is a better form of pop-rap. So before you go being a homophobe, and fucking with everyone, think about what your saying. I never said one was better than the other, people like diffrent things. Its my fucking oppinion idiot.

I listen to all different kind of music. It all depends what mood im. I'm not really feelin all this main stream hip hop shit eventhough a few are aiight, they basically all talk about the same shit: smoke weed, fuck bitches, killin.....thats not what hip hop was meant to be...it was meant to talk about everyday life issues...but anyways all im sayin is that im into the old skool and underground hip hop.

By the way saying people from texas like country music is a huge mistake. I know a few kids from texas and my girlfriend has relitives there, and i know that they dont only like country music.

And yea i hear like Dj GT voices of spring 2003 and i fucking go out of my mind. I also listen to Rock, Ska, jazz, big band, hip-hop, electronic (other types), metal, funk, instomental hip-hop, blues (only the old stuff and new jonny lang), jam bands, punk... god i cant even think of them all. So next time you call me uninformed check your bullshit at the door.

Adamo
12-13-2004, 01:47 AM
My ignorant generalization about Texans was to prove a point about personal preferance. Good for you that you like all those other genres but my point to you was that Vocal Trance is not the "underground hip hop" of Techno/Trance music and if you think so, then YES YOUR ARE A MISINFORMED DUMBASS.

yuki
12-13-2004, 02:16 AM
Yes. Music is a prefference. I'm from Texas and I can't stand country. I don't think that trance is to techno what underground hip-hop is to gangsta shiz. Trance nowdays is completely unlike the original version of trance. Vocal trance i.e. the type of shit that Oakenfold spins, has done a lot to pervert the true sense of what raves and underground music had come to accomplish. But, then again, it is my opinion and my prefference to believe this. It also has a lot to do with when you started to listen to Electronic Music. I started to listen to it in the early nineties when techno and house were big, and trance had yet to become blown out of proportion. If you started going to raves when kandy kidz and trance had become the new hype then you probably like that more than house or techno. It's all strictly a matter of opinion. It is impossible to prove any one kind of electronic music is better than another, because it's all subjective and can in no way be proven objective.

Let's get this shit straight. Techno is a specific genre that came from detroit in the early to mid eighties along with german producers kraftwerk in the 70's. Aphrodite and dieselboy are drum and bass. They are two totally different types of electronic music. I'm sick of people using techno as a blanket term to describe all kinds of electronic music. You might as well say brittany spears is techno.

First of all, Drum and Bass is the best, trance and most other electronica is garbage and for people who keep saying "techno" your fucking stupid........techno is a specific style of music it doesnt account for all electronica music.
thats true. Techno should be hard and from germany / sweden and possibly detroit. Techno's no where close to trance at all...

But....

dnb / jungle is still the coolest. Dark and insane preferably :) [/b][/quote]

reviving my 2nd favourite thread (with the UK thread leading the proceedings)

As you would expect the soundtrack is central to the film: Personally selected by director Shane Meadows, the music provides counterpoints between the great pastures of the Peak District, and the deranged scenes of bloody retribution. The twisted folk of (Smog) and The Earlies is interspersed with the eerie Spaghetti Western feel of Calexico’s instrumental tracks and unsettled calm of Aphex Twin’s ‘Nannou 2’, while heartfelt singer/songwriter narrative songs from Adem, Gravenhurst and Clayhill lend an emotional gravity. Laurent Garnier’s fantastically fucked-up, rhythmic-drone centrepiece ‘Forgotten Thoughts’ accompanies the film’s ‘acid scene’ as the vigilante lead character, Richard, spikes his nemeses’ tea kettle with a lethal psychotropic cocktail... carnage ensues. M. Ward’s cracked and haunting ‘Dead Man’ could not be more fitting.

Like the acclaimed Morvern Callar OST soundtrack released on Warp in 2002, the Dead Man’s Shoes soundtrack stands apart from the film as a thoroughly enjoyable and beautifully sequenced collection of songs that hang together with unusual resonance.

1. (Smog) 'Vessel In Vain'
2. Calexico 'Untitled II'
3. Calexico 'Untitled III'
4. Adem 'Statued'
5. Calexico 'Ritual Road Map'
6. Laurent Garnier 'Forgotten Thoughts'
7. The Earlies 'Morning Wonder'
8. Richard Hawley 'Steel 2'
9. Clayhill 'Afterlight'
10. Calexico 'Crooked Road'
11. Lucky Dragons 'Heartbreaker'
12. Gravenhurst 'The Diver'
13. Cul De Sac 'I Remember Nothing More'
14. P.G. Six 'Fallen Leaves'
15. ABBC 'Pluis Sans Nuages'
16. Aphex Twin 'Nannou 2'
17. M. Ward 'Dead Man'
18. DM & Jemini 'The Only One'

^^^^^^^ Forgotten Thoughts is cardinal to the substratum aspect of the scene.

Background Knowledge of genre's and sub-genre's related to the form..

IDM, short for intelligent dance music, is an electronic music genre which began as a style of techno in the early 1990s and moved on to include the textures and sound manipulation methods of Musique concrète and early, "true" industrial bands such as Coil and Nurse With Wound. Unlike the driving, pounding sound of dancefloor techno, IDM is more cerebral, usually being quite a bit slower, more melodic, less aggressive, and more artistic, quirky and improvisational. It is sometimes informally called intelligent techno, listening techno, art techno, experimental techno, or braindance. The genre was also known for a while as electronica, though that term now encompasses many forms of electronic music from big beat to acid house.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s IDM greatly increased in the United States. One of the more notable areas was Miami, Florida with labels like Schematic, Merck, and The Beta Bodega Coalition sprouting up and releasing artists such as Phoenecia, Dino Felipe, Machine Drum, and Proem. A second would be the Chicago/Milwaukee area with labels such as Addict, Chocolate Industries, Hefty, and Zod releasing artists like Doormouse and Emotional Joystick. The influence of Chicago's adventurous and experimental Wax Trax! label and the use of rhythms drawn from Detroit electro are also obvious in earlier, more linear IDM such as Autechre's "Bass Cadet" (released stateside on Wax Trax) or more recently in their Gescom releases.

Ambient music is a loosely defined musical genre that incorporates elements of a number of different styles - including jazz, electronic music, new age, rock and roll, modern classical music, reggae, traditional, world and even noise. It is chiefly identifiable as having an overarching atmospheric context.

The term was first coined by Brian Eno in the late 1970s to refer to music that would envelop the listener without drawing attention to itself. Hence, Brian Eno is considered the father of ambient music: his 1978 release Ambient 1: Music for Airports includes a manifesto describing this music. Sometimes associated with elevator music and Muzak, it is more often similar to mood music or an ambient background in movie and radio sound effects. Often listeners will forget they are listening to ambient music, which is one of the biggest attractions of the genre. It can be any musical style, including jazz, electronic music and modern classical music.

Retrospectively, some of the works of the 20th century French composer Erik Satie, today best known for his Trois Gymnopédies suite, can be regarded as predecessors of modern ambient music. He referred to some of his music as 'furniture music'. The invention of the theremin in the early 20th century is also considered an important influence on the later development of ambient music. Similarly some of the works of the French composer Edgar Varèse, who used the theremin extensively in his music can also be viewed as predecessors of ambient music.

Early albums from the 1970s by Tangerine Dream, such as Phaedra (1974), have greatly influenced the genre. Also the album Sonic Seasonings (1972) by Wendy Carlos has been important. Other early artists such as Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis in the 1970s and Ray Lynch and Mannheim Steamroller in the 1980s, all of which were considered New Age or Space Age, also influenced the growth of ambient electronic music.

Purely ambient music is traditionally beatless. In the late 1980s and early 1990s ambient music underwent a resurgence with the reconciliation of rhythm with the dreamy, meandering reverb of the first (late 1970s - 1980s) wave of ambient music. Under the guise of various styles, ambient electronic music (sometimes referred to as ambient techno or ambient dub) saw the birth of a new wave of electronic music in the works of artists like The Orb, Aphex Twin and the Irresistible Force.

Acid house is a variant of house music characterized by the use of simple tone generators with tempo-controlled resonant filters. It began when musicians discovered that they could create interesting sounds with the Roland TB-303 analogue bass synthesizer by tweaking the resonance and frequency cut-off dials as they played. The term "acid" was used in Chicago at the time as a term for the squelchy "acid" sounds of such bass synthesizers such as the TB-303, and has no connection to LSD (disputed — see talk page) (in fact, the drug most commonly associated with the acid house scene was MDMA, or Ecstasy). Acid house music became a central part of the early rave scene in the U.K., and the yellow smiley became its emblem.

Since the early 2000s, acid house has shifted focus from its sole use of the 303, but remains true to the original concept: repeated sequences of sound being shifted and warped by modulation over a period of time.

Drill n' Bass (drole 'n boos) is a type of electronic music that emerged from Drum n' Bass in the mid-1990s. Artists like Luke Vibert, Squarepusher, and most famously, Aphex Twin helped originate the sound, which had emerged with some popular success by 1995 (see 1995 in music). The popularity was short-lived, however, and the style had become mostly underground again by 1998 (see 1998 in music).

The genre is characterized by rapid, highly distorted snare drum rolls, generally culled from the famous "amen" breakbeat sample being applied to normal drum and bass breakbeats. The exponential increase in complexity and attention to measure-by-measure detail found in Drill n' Bass is significant; it was the first substantial distancing from the dancefloor aesthetic of early Drum n' Bass. Drill n' Bass music can be characterized as "headphone music," less designed for dancing than for careful listening. While associated with a "busier" sound than that of mainstream Drum n' Bass, Drill n' Bass is generally representative of a minimalist design ethos owing to the genre's spare and often stark arrangements, using a small number of samples in many deployments and iterations.

Crystal Castles, band from Toronto, sick shit.

Crystal castles is nice, some of their stuff is just noise to me though. Vanished is nice. I think I stress Ratatat too much, but I love them a lot. Prefuse 73 is a nice band too. Crookers have some nice remixes (night n day) but they reproduce the dame beats and don't switch it up enough for me to listen to them for too long.

Not really the "techno" you guys are thinking of, more electronic/electronica

On that note, Dntel and I am robot and proud are my top chill electronica

Just a bit of handy knowledge: Tests have proven that listening to ascending music (that is, music that starts slow and gets faster) raises your heartbeat. So if you wanna get pumped for something, listen that somethin' like that and you're bound to get excited.

Anyway, some of my favorite artists:
Benassi bros
Weekend Players
Grandmaster Flash
Tiesto
Slick Rick
Breakbeat Era
Shrift
4 Strings
Thrillseekers
Afrika Bambaataa
Utada Hikaru (FUCK off, check the remixes!)
Above & Beyond
ATB
Ian Van Dahl
Bitter:Sweet
Bone Thugz
KRS-1
Delerium
Dj Ornator
Dj Sammy
Erik B and Rakim
The Real McCoy
Way out West

^Most of those are chillout/techno or OldSchool hiphop

What I consider chillout/techno is Dntel and I am robot and proud.
