Alot of people say they aren't in it for fame, but I dunno, if you're hitting up street spots and whatnot, you are at least partially in it for fame, otherwise you'd be hitting the insides of abandoned buildings and canvasses. Alot of people are afraid to admit to wanting fame, and wanting to be known, but hey that's how some people are.

I for one am in to graffiti for many reasons.
1)Art
2)Fame
3)Rush
4)Traveling
5)Meeting Other Writers

So what if it's an ego boost, fuck is so wrong with that?

And to answer your question. I'd risk everything for fame. I've risked my life many many times. Fame is longer lasting than life, and more important....and getting up with style is my main thang, plus you get a nice rush when you know you can die doing something, but at the same time know that it's worth it cause other people will see it and be like "Whoa".

Let me first start out by saying for the most part, this is a redundant topic to have on a "graffiti forum" which thrives off of self promotion. Of course you all WANT and WISH you were famous. Why else would you whore your work and opinions on the Internet which carries stigmas amongst a lot of heads for this very reason. Out of all the petty ways to get fame, this is the most frowned upon for good reasons. Anyways not to go off on a tangent about that.. I think there are so many different genres of fame Do writers put in work for fame amongst those they don't have to expound too, like peers within the culture. Surely we do. It's a coded language amongst society's most bourgeois scamp individuals. But at the same time, say a stencil degrading are nations leader Dubya, could be interpreted out side the initial demographic of "writers" for obvious reasons. It really boils down to what the aim's of the writer him or her self are looking to achieve and what they find to them is the most self gratification. But what really is fame..?.. Going back to what Evak was saying.. It's not so much what your doing in life, but the legacy you leave for the life of others. Fame is composed of the sciolism of keeping people guessing. Graffiti is one of the few mediums left that you can literally distort reality. You take a wall, it's one of four. It's been the same day after day after day. Till one day it's altered by that antics of "MAN".. Something mad made, challenged by another mans artifice which is his over all critique on the limits and boundaries of life how he/she breaths it. Fame almost has a hint of allegory to it. On one hand it's like oh this person is famous. So we pounder over all that person has done, but never take the time to question if it was that persons initial purpose to be "famous"... Even if a person achieves being "famous" that is solely the opinions of a third party. And that's REAL. Writers know there famous when kids are jocking there work and blundering it into a fabricated, regurgitated all for what... Their own fame..?.. I can't perscribe or assent that people should take part in this lifestyle for fame.. Cause you won't know if you had your 15 minutes till the clock already stopped ticking...

fame is definately not my sole reason for doin graff, but it is surely some part of it. If we weren't looking for fame, we wouldn't tag, and do throw ups, and pieces in public places. If we were doing it for the love of art, we'd sketch in our blackbooks, maybe a mural on our wall in our room. but why do people hit up public places if theyre not looking for fame? You may not tag only 2 get fame, but if you think about it, it is the main reason. I tag so that other writers kno im up and out there, and i havnt stopped. Many famous writers are still alive today, and still destroying...unless of course you mean to say that if you risk your life for fame and die, then you won't be able to appreciate the fame because you will already be dead....but even so, it's not about being able to soak in the fame, it's about leaving your mark/getting up as suffeciently enough so you can be written in the history books.

Nah, what I meant was, look at the ratio of writers who die and then get "famous"... With exceptions like Nace, Dondi, Ayer.. But then you have people like say Bore or Over, even Zuel whose names were foreign to the graffiti population as a whole outside the place they resided, untill it was the "late"bore, or the "late"Zuel... Really, not trying to degrade anyone of them.. But on the scale of "fame" their certainly better well known after they have passed on in the physical.. All the people who put in work and accidentally got famous. <~~~~ I know I will probably get a slew of replys about how majority of graff writers paint for fame.. Blah blah.. But the reality is, you can't second guess what guote unquote famous writers aims are untill you've met them and talked to them.. Most writers are really humble about their work. Some are overly confident. In all honesty I think the moment a writer acknowledges he's/she's famous that's when their career ends. Look at certain videos that drop. Like the Cope video, how pompous and vain of a mother fucker do you have to be to agree to making a video because outside parties think your famous. And then the product of that. It goes to your head... You make a video divulging your spots. Next month. Your sporting some matching wrist jewelry... And I only use Cope an example... Nothing personal. I guess that's where we differ at Evak, you paint for fame.. You would "die" for fame. I look at fame as a bonus to doing something I would be doing anyways for the same reasons I started to years ago..

I don't think that this is a one sided issue. Some days we go out for fame, some for the artistic endeavor. The only thing that I can hold to the highest standard is that I go out for me and no one else. I paint for my own reasons. I'm not risking anything for any one else, only me.

see i guess im an oddball cause my favorite part of writing is the mission to get to a spot, like climbing old fire escapes and rusted ladders and walking along edges 4 stories up to hit a dope rooftop.
but shit can go wrong, like falling from 30 feet up onto your friends shoulder and breaking all the beer in your backback and fucking up your leg so you cant walk.
but just the rush of having to climb up 40 ft high water poles to get onto a roof and doing a throw while you can see a paddy waggon only half a block down the street investigating a robbery and watching the cops walk around as your paint

Alot of writers don't wan't fame, they just want people to see thier art...that's way different then wanting everyone to know who you are. So people can hit the streets without wanting fame.

But I for one want fame, I want to be known, and at the same time I want to be up in style. I'm not in this only for fame though, I'm in it for all the adventures I go on, all the road trips, all the homies, the art, the rush....everything! Graffiti is everything to me.
