Astesk - it was done with conte, it's similar to charcoal but quite a bit harder. but ya he would put a cannon fuse in his hat and light it (badass, lol) i was going to add that (you can see the start of it just to the bottom sides of the hat) but you would really wouldn't get the effect on the size of the paper. If you remember the name of that documentary let me know tho, would love to see it. Ive read about him quite a bit when i was younger and stumbled on a book that had him in it recently.

I love working on canvas, theres def a little learning curve to it though. Ive got a few tips i've picked up so far,def try shit out for yourself dont take my word as fact.
1. get your sketch down first and foremost. one thats gonna be easily understood once paint goes on,
2.if your doing letters, Deco markers do a killer job.
3.if you plan on painting a background stick to spray paint when using decos(oils,acrylics,ect. will clog the fuck out of your decos)
4.like i said before there is a learning curve switching from paper to canvas, so if your looking for something clean as fuck id recommend getting your hands on a couple scrap pieces of canvas or goto your local craft shop and pick up some canvas paper.

I hope that helps.

the structure just seems weak. the bars dont seem very consistant and there's a lot more negative space than there was in your old style. the flow lacks and the extensions seem too forced and random whereas your old style flowed great and the few extensions worked perfectly with the simplicity of the letters. i also dont like how blocky your new style is. idk i just woulda stuck with the original style and developed it more if it was me. dont fix what aint broken.

i try to give the most detailed crits i can without being an ass...

what makes that stotr piece toy is the bars plain and simple, both vertical bars on the Ts are uneven and dont flow well, same with the diagonal bars on the S and R. the chips are in bad places, chips look better coming off the end of a bar. and on a personal note i dont like the popout things on the top of the letters.... the concept of the 8ball isnt bad but when ur making an object especially a round one it has to be on point, the center white part of the 8ball should be a circle like the ball itself but instead its more of a half circle with straight lines on the right side... know what i mean?

to me intermediate pieces should have cleaner lines and ur bars should flow nice, intermediate should be people that have the basics down pat but just need input on what direction to take their style

black - much improvement bro but the extensions off your S and E are weak, they would look much better cut short

408bomber - keep working with those simps man, all your bars should be the same width at first, that "I" is way smaller. if you start getting bored try simply slanting your simps back like \ or something. and dont worry about finished sketches at this stage just draw draw draw, once you got that shit down (im talking a month or two from now) then start working in little breaks cracks colour and minor details, but not extensions yet because you really need to understand your letters first.

this is why the whole idea of the toy/intermediate forum doesn't really work. people say that sketches are "sick" when they totally aren't. for example, black's sketch is no where sick. extensions coming out of no where and inconsistency in the bars and flow. also if you don't understand how to do simples than that's something you have to figure out, cause if you can't do that there's no way you can come up with more complex stuff. not trying to hate on any of you guys, but it just makes rage when i see people call someone else's shit really good and sick when it's not.

spend alot of time working on consistancy. look at different serrif and sans serrif fonts. learn what elements of each letter is diffinitive to that letter. pay extremely close attention to your negative space cause that shit needs to be consistant too. repitition. set up a grid so your shit is straight before you hack away at the bars. break each letter down into its proportions on a grid if you need to

workin on that virus, id like to find a chill spot to work on my can control so when i get painting it doesnt look like an 8 year old did it haha. other than some throws and hands i've never attempted painting as of yet

i agree. dont worry about complexity too much tho. just keep working at that structure. the width of the S changes a little too drastically in the middle section and the E gets too skinny at the top. it's coming along nicely tho. keep up the good work.
