Mekr4- The Nerv tag has some potential. I&#39;m not really hot on the sideways quotations tho. The R&#39;s kinda cool and origional. Try pushing that a little further and see what you can get out of it. The Blink tag looks a little too jumbled gangsta style and I&#39;m not feelin the Demon tag at all. I&#39;d work that Nerv tag a bit and it might turn out pretty nice.

My advice is, if you really wanna write that, then spend a couple pages writing it as plainly as you can, maybe look at different fonts of that word too and see how the letters are exaggerated with them. study the basic letters, then spend a page developing different styles for each letter. Don&#39;t get too crazy with them tho. It&#39;s more about exagerating whats already there than distorting it, ya know?
Then try different combonations with the letter styles you came up with. Try to get them to flow together nicely. Then work on the flow of the overall tag.
That&#39;s how I&#39;d do it anyways..
The A isn&#39;t bad. The rest I&#39;d scrap. ;)

well, the crown&#39;s a big nono.. The quotations could be better placed, and the letters are overly simple and don&#39;t flow well,(particularly the E).
With that out of the way... I have seen much worse. Just keep on practicing homeboy. You&#39;ll get it if you want it. ;)

I think I&#39;m gonna dissagree with Toon on this one. Your tag as a standalone is fair.. But, who really pays attention to a just "fair" tag? I guess it could get you up, but a true writer can bust a full sentence across a wall and make it look dope. Looks shitty to me just changed name, kinda rethinkin this whole graffiti writin thing, may just stick to learning the history and lookin at the pics cause just like when I used to paint and sketch before graffiti I can&#39;t seem to get inspriation from anywhere. Sounds like it&#39;s not really your thing Rein. If it was, you&#39;d know. You fiend for it. The longest I can go without getting up in one form or another (be it stencils, wheatpastes, freights, stickers, or just spreadin some ink around) is about 3 weeks and by then I&#39;m so hungry for it, I&#39;ll wake up at 3 in the mornin and just bust out with it. If you just like to study the art, thats cool too, but If you&#39;re lacking inspiration, I would suggest trying different mediums. There&#39;s lots of graffiti sub genres. Maybe you haven&#39;t found your niche. As far as being by yourself in it, do you have any freightline nearby? Anywhere you have freights, you have a huge graff community at your disposal.

Tag crit- It&#39;s pretty basic, beginner stuff. It&#39;s not at the point where you can really say "I think this or that should be changed". You&#39;re more at the point where you just say, keep developing your letters. ;)

It seems like I never change. No, frieghts come in like once a month and no one bombs&#39;em, I used to hang out there and see the freights come in from New York and Cali and see the them bombed out and would envy the people capable of creating them. What are some different mediums to work with, I may start going to community college art classes in August. Goin&#39; this weekend to Micheals which is a 100 mile round trip to get markers and shit. It seems regularly, someone will get ragged on a little bit and goes into a rage. He then proceeds to call everyone "net pussies" and always comes with the line "in the streets I&#39;d kill you"blah, blah. I&#39;m going to start deleting posts like this cuzz it just fuels more fire and it&#39;s a retarded thing to say........on the internet... If someone gets ragged on and wants to defend themself, they&#39;ll need to find a more clever way of doing it than that. It&#39;s not just you Short-e, alot of people do this.

I don&#39;t think I can stop beef in here, but I will be cutting down some of it. I know you guys are used to beefin wherever you want, but you can&#39;t be filling up pages with it in threads that are supposed be for posting pictures and critiques. Some beef is gonna happen anyway, but don&#39;t go overboard with it. The main blackbook thread is the same way.

As for a crit for short-e, on your real tags, they have nice flow, but aren&#39;t legible, I would try and make them more readable. I like the one without the weird E&#39;s.

same tag, its just now that ive gotten more used to writing it i dont have to put such a deliberate(sp) effort into writing it so i can &#39;slop&#39; it around some, use more feeling than thought, if ya dig me

personally I think it looks better, maybe still not really &#39;good&#39;, but better

collection of my tags to date.

at this point im really looking for some general advice, ive pretty much abandoned the tags above, but i thought they might provide some kind of insight maybe.
I just spent a few hours drawing and it was alot like slamming my head against a wall, pretty much everything i tried came out either like that sheep tag or like cursive...

anyone have any ideas on things i could try just to mix things up a little, get me going somewhere? I know, practice practice practice, but at the moment im in a bit of a creative rut, im not looking for someone to do my work for me, but if ANYONE could point me in a direction and/or give me a boot in the ass to get me moving i would greatly appreciate it.

I think what you should do is instead of trying to make a graffitiesque tag, use your normal handwriting...

write the tag in normal ass handwriting over and over...
writing it quicker and quicker...

once you get the formation of the letters down packed, you add a little flair..

a little at a time.. no rush...
your shit doesn&#39;t have to look like graffiti to look dope.

The P and the K have charachter, the rest, not so much.. The biggest problem IS NOT the letters tho. It&#39;s the tiny quotations on each side of your tag. Tiny quotations on each side of a large tag create what I like to call the "fat man in little coat" complex. It&#39;s just comepletely akward, and when you then apply them backwards, this enhances the effect. Look at where the tip of an actual quotation is headed- towards the word on each side. (but not too much)
Next the addons could be given a facelift. The squiggly thing at the bottom isn&#39;t nessecarilly a bad idea, it&#39;s just transforming the overall shape of the tag from horizontal, to blockish/squarish. Not particularly bad, just more unusual.
Last thing I&#39;d suggest is try a tag once with the letters all the same size and see if you like it better. I&#39;m glad you&#39;re still making an effort to develope your handstyle. I love your Karaks (the bear on the double postal was ill) but your handy&#39;s always detracted a bit from your work. ;)

PS- have you ever thought about a friendly karak battle between you and Cess? That would be sooooo fresh.
