Heard in the news about a miraculous graffiti prevention technology, craftily dubbed Graffiti Tracker.

NPR interviewed a police officer that had worked with this technology and it was "astounding" etc. It's a combination of GPS and "photograph technology" and the rest is being withheld from the public to keep anyone from figuring it out. Because of that fact, it will inevitably fail but it's still messed up.There's also the possibility that the 'system' isn't that great and someone is just trying to sell it or make it effective by talking shit.
Does anyone know how it might work? (or is there a thread about this already?)

you mean you can't figure that out?

the system is GPS based. users can take pictures of graffiti and upload the pictures, including a geo-tag so it can be located on a map.
the system probably also tracks names and crews
the police can then see what spots of the city have more graffiti, and where specific writers or crews get up.
they can then assign more patrols to those areas in hopes of reducing vandalism
prosecutors can also connect individuals to more pieces, and add charges

How the hell would you make a rapist tracker? You don't need a rapist tracker to track where one person goes (if you have evidence to link that one person to each).

I wouldn't worry about getting caught as a result of the tracker. The real scary part is when you get caught the normal way and theres this nice little compiled list of your ups just waiting to fuck you in the ass in court. Hope they don't use that shit here in Canada.

P.S. They do kinda have a rapist tracker. They have that sex offender tracker, that shows their address'.

I have no idea what most these guys are worrying about. Just wreck the city, get more ups, and don't worry about it.

Personally I never really go back to old spots, I'm always looking for new ones. If I haven't been seen, heard, or caught by the time I get done then I've been there too long. Just how my click rolls anyhow.

people around my way don't hit certain spots because they get buffed fast. but if heads were killin walls every which way around here they'd leave alot of the graffiti be. people just don't like taking the risk of their shit ridin' for two days.

what a minute so this tracker thing is what they use now to gather evidence? this is still bullshit. im not intimidated by this. as long as you dont go to the same spot everytime and be smart it shouldnt matter. unless the tracker is a live video recorder. this is just the cops crossing over into the 21st century instead of takin flix and keeping them in big ass binders. plus they can keep as many pics as they want but they cant prove it was you. no matter how similar the styles are.

The database of flicks and locations is under control of Graffiti Tracker; and they are analyzed by "specialists."

I looked at a bunch of case studies and shit on their site. All their flicks and video show catching kids who are toy as fuck.

This system only really works for city neighborhoods though. Any suburban writer can easily put their work in 5+ jurisdictions. So what if some police dept. has a couple of your tags on record, most of your pieces, if any are going to be in chill spots, or highway spots.

If any police force was smart enough they would realize they could get the same service from the internet for free.

they have gunshot microphones in big cities that can pinpoint where a gunshot came from by comparing the time it takes the sound to reach different microphones
they could easily do the same with spray paint can rattle
