What Makes A Writer Good?

Ive been wondering what makes a writer good is it painting abilities,letter structure,color scheme,how creative it is?Like could there be a piece thats good but nobody likes the style therefore making it toy?Say what you think makes a good piece and why.I know the difference between good graffiti and bad graffiti but what about the stuff in between?

Not being a copy cat but just looking at what other people have done.. I&#39;ve been doing it for two years but not taking it as serious as I should..It&#39;s hard when your a loner tagging in Detroit because I constantly have to watch out for people when I should have someone watching my back...This is because all my friends are afraid of Detroit and don&#39;t understand graffiti like I do..I always promised myself though even if I had to go out by myself I will continue to bomb Detroit from walls, watertowers and soon billboards... I think a number of things makes you a good graff writer. I mean with me I can see a tag thats so good I think its a good as any wildstyle peice. I guess I just like most graffiti because if you go around hating on anyone who has just little problems you will never learn to appreciate it as much. a good writer isnt just about the style.
i think when looking at what makes a writer good, there are two different types.
the writers you know and the writers you dont.
iif you dont know them, thats part of the good. not having any idea who they are. not knowing what race, how big, if their nice, an asshole, not knowing anything. but you still see their shit.
they both have to have nice styles, nice spots, and not afraid to try new styles and branch out.. not to mention a good variety of tags, throws, pieces, rollers, etc.
with writers you know, they should be humble, willing to help out the kids, and know their history.

interesting question actually because the question kind of answers itself but still interesting to think/read/talk about... its all relative, its all a matter of taste.

Just to give an example, one of my crew-mates thinks every piece I&#39;m proudest of as my worst work, so its such a matter of taste that it go can go completely different ways. I&#39;m a little surprised when I hear people liking silver/chrome better than colors and throw ups more than pieces... but you got those...

Personally what hits me is the dynamics of the structure of letters, the more alive you can create them, and especially natural elements warped in somehow... I have all these little things that get my attention. The feeling a piece gives you... for instance old school graff... there is something so unique about that feeling it seems like they&#39;ve managed to capture the feeling of being pioneering hip hop in the 70&#39;s... so there&#39;s alot of old scool graff which can impress me more than something high tech hardocre wildstyle...

I LOVE the illegal element... I&#39;m always alot more fascinated if somethings done at an illegal spot that concentrated to one legal wall...

And by boiling all this down, Style&#33; I dont know how many people say its about style because "thats the thing to say", but I definately mean it... style... its all about style... and being able to recognize a writre even thow 2 pieces are almost completely different in style and everything, there is still that touch which a write can never escape which is just HIS/HER style... just that thing makes it cool...
..and toys dont have that actually... toys just havent developed it... themselves in artform... etc...
