I know alot of people can't stand listening to music that isn't loaded with the word "fuck". Personally I prefer explicit, and know alot of bands that could improve their music by adding a little color to thier vocab, but I don't need the music to have it. get rid of this if you want, i just wanna see what people say.

While not completely necessary I still think it can play a big part in adding some good emotion into a track, so yea, sometimes it helps spice up music a bit.

it adds character to music, but i dont need explicit lyrics to enjoy a song. But if a song does have colorful language in it, i don't want to hear a cleaned up version of it. Fuck censorship!

No, oldies don't have explicit lyrics and they still rock.
but when it comes to rap and stuff, its pretty much mandatory to see how many times "fuck" can be said in the album.

While I enjoy FUCKs and CUNTs, I like listening to alot of music without lyrics.

Not really. I can listen to soft shit. Sometimes.
But I do prefer gore and killings in my music.

and for the topic, i don't think music needs explicit words, but can have them but not in excess. usually in a hip-hop track it's not very skillful to repeat the same words on a track, though when it comes to words like "FUCK" it's okay. which doesn't make any sense. i have nothing against these words and i certainly don't like censorship.

i agree with what most of you are saying. Rap is the only genre where fuck is a necessity, but its nice to have in all genres.

triple six wouldn't be triple six without explicit lyrics.

I personally think this is an idiotic thread. The original hip hop didn’t have swearing. I mean now days if you want your verses to be raw you keep the swearing out of it and put your skills into some meaning

Swear words usually turn into a crutch for people who suck at freestyling.

Dumbass? 2 live crew is a shit example....that's like sayin Easy-E was an awesome lyricist. Over use of explicit lyrics takes away the impact of when real emcees use them

thats fucking stupid.
anyway. the less you use words like fuck and shit, the more meaning they carry when you do use them. the word fuck can carry a lot of emotion, but if you use it 10 times a sentence then it loses so much of that.

expletives can add energy and definitely add to the music when appropriate but using fuck shouldn't be done because people think it should be done. A deep vocab is sick especially for hiphop
