Tips for rollers.

What do you guys mix with bucket paint to make more? Water, paint thinner? Anything else related to rollers can be posted here.

im thinkin u roll ur basic letters out first then come back with cans...never done a roller but this how i would do it..anxious to see where this thread goes..rollers r dope..

fromthegrave
09-12-2009, 12:50 PM
u dont need cans for a roller. cracks and small outlines can be done just be smart about it. for a straight thin line use the side of the roller or the edge of the side. just thing of it as a big paint brush. and most of the time the roller isnt gonna come out as clean as a piece if its up high so do that best u can.

^^ Bump. And over at trackside, we'd bring one 10 gal. bucket filled with house paint and an extendable roller to reach those high tops. Maybe an extra roller replacement

Personal preference but I don't see why you'd do it any other way.

fromthegrave

he fills the bucket with paint.. thats a lot of pain tho. think he means 5 gallon. and a ten gallon bucket would be hella heavy and not realistic to carry if they even make em.

measure if u want, but it woud probably be easiest and more time efficent if you use things as reference, such as seams in the wall or by brick count, or by using the roller width ect...

the best place to get a shitload of free paint is from your town. in my town at the end of the month they have this paint can disposal shit goin on and you can go and take as much as you want. its not cans but like buckets of the most randomly colored paint. look it up most towns do this

most rolllers are done with latex paint which cant be thinned down with paint thinner and ive never heard of anyone using water to make more paint... so yea if ur doing a roller with rusto bucket paint get paint thinner
if ur using latex paint (buy a cheap one from a dicount store) then just use it as is because its cheap...

neb3636
09-19-2009, 10:12 PM
^^^^^^^^^^^ There is alot of false information in that post. First of all latex paint washes off with water so why would you use that outside dumbass. Also you can thin latex with water or piss if your toomer. Lastly you really think MTA bought 400 gallons of paint?! i mean come on

i got like 20 buckets of valspar just painted the inside of the house bought some extras to fucks with rollers.
some rollers are done with straight bucket paint, and well...of course, a roller, some with 3d/outlines/cracks using a few cans. you can be pretty creative with rollers and they arent TOO difficuilt to fuck up and if you take some time and a tiny bit of effort you can come out with some nice looking work

some examples of somerollers.

And that's why government and council beurocracie is foolish. If you roll it properly, no paint will go in the water system.

Yeah it's honestly pretty easy, here is my first roller(I went back and did a black outline/3-d on it, but haven't flicked it. Once I get more bucket paint i'm so down to do another one.

what i thought was funny about the mta roller buff was this:

if your going to paint over it in a shade of white basically why didnt they just buff all the black out with white and it would have just been one big solid white block instead of going over the entire thing and wasting all that paint?! haha

Queezy
11-03-2009, 01:28 AM
They needed to use "economical paint" rather than oil based paint. The government is fucked up bro, they cut funding in california schools but spent millions to buff the saber and mta roller when nobody in that are gives a shit about graffiti because the river is a shit hole anyways. So lame.

Toy question: The whole cracks in roller thing. Do some people like do huge lines as the cracks then just make it thinner with the fill color?

rone

ive never done one, but i would just use straight bucket paint. is there something wrong with that?

jiveONE
01-14-2010, 04:43 PM
so does it matter whether or not you use exterior paint? Cause i used kilz interior for a roller bomb a month ago and its still there; no fade.

Bazer
01-14-2010, 05:45 PM
MAYBE if you want it to last a million years but i used interior paint for a roller about a year ago. i went about two weeks ago and its still in really good condition. the paint faded in a few areas but i re touched it with some spray paint and covered up some toy that wrote his name in the k.

zennegen
01-14-2010, 05:56 PM
i think the reason they call it interior paint is because there's no fumes that can harm you in the paint, whereas exterior paint might smell of have toxic fumes. just a guess.

k somone set this shit straight cus i wana know what to get and wat not to get next time i hit up the stores....
i know i need two rollers, two paint holders and an extendable rroller stick
what i dont know is what kinda paint works best outdorrs, (last longest, no fade)
and also what to thin shit down with.... i think some paints cant be thined by certian stuff? etc
also if you watch the norm roller video he has a big white bucket full of white paint i think but he puts some shit on the roller before dippin shit into the paint? anyone know wha the deal with that is heres the link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_tvQNptmAM

EST2007
01-15-2010, 01:37 PM
could be just water.. i've thinned roller paint with water and it was fine

interior vs exterior paint.... dude it dosnt really matter, it's gonna last a long time no matter what. one thing to be mindful of is the weather when you lay the paint. if it's really cold out , eventually the paint will start to peel off the wall becasue it doesnt get a chance to "cure" correctly due to the cold.

roller paint is bucket paint, so its no different than the average house painter asking how to get paint off their clothes

yo lowes has this roller that is like 18 inchs wide and the cheapest way to get rolller is probaly to go to lowes or homedepot and go to the paint section where they mix the paint usualy behind that the have bucket paint that people asked them to make a certain color and they either never came back for it or just didnt like the color so i go t like each gallon for 5 dollars
