Ive been in my yard multiple times just scoping out, benching and looking for other writers but i wanna actually paint trains but i need to learn more: like how will i know when a track is live and basic stuff like that. i know so little about this that i dont even know what to ask the only things i know are about hobos monikers streaks names of different cars and tracking numbers. any advice/info would be appreciated!!!

i'm not a freight king, but i've been to the yards more than enough times and i know etiquette.
-when you see someone, hide. be ready to jet if you think it's track police. if they don't pose a threat, or if they're a writer, ask to approach.
-don't ever ever ever walk up and down the tracks in the middle of your peice to find something to stand on, just so you can do your precious bubble at the top.
-don't paint over any of the numbers. if you do, draw the number back with a marker or your paint. this makes the workers in the yard angry because they have to look and see what number train it is and put a huge stamp on your shit... thus bringing more security to the yard.
-wear a mask or cover your face on the way to the freights if there are buildings that run parallel to the tracks.
-if you're going to bring your little buddy to the yard, and some shit goes down, use it. chances are noone will hear the gunshot... and you don't want to catch an additional charge in addition to the whole trespassing/vandalism of federal property, etc.
-don't bring people who are loud and obnoxious. there are people at the yards who act like it's their land to own, so don't wile the fuck out. have respect for those who don't have a roof over their head.
-goes without saying, park the car far away. alot of the times, any entrance to the tracks that seems easily accessible will have bullshit ass wackenhut security or csx police or something. but remember, these guys don't take matters into their own hands, they phone crackers when they see something go down.
-when you hear a plane, like a personal cessna, hide. once i had the same plane circle me three times.
-don't be a stupid cock sucker and you won't get hemmed up. plain and simple. and for what it's worth, try and figure out which direction the freight rolls and hit the side that would be facing the highway, in the event the freights get parked up off the highway like they do in good ol south florida.

I havent painted trains in quite a while now cause that shit is just not worth it, got chased by 3 train workers when it was dark and had to walk like 15 miles home cause I got seperated from my friends and I had no phone....not fun, especially since I had no paint or markers for the trip home.

This should be something learned over time, not something ANYONE can read up on by just signing up with a Bombing Science account.
If you aren't prepared and are seriously that clueless, then my advice is to literally NOT paint in a yard. Find a chill layup to paint if ANYTHING, it might just save your life.

Is a layup some where like on the side of the road where they just leave trains?

oh because theres a place where they store trains off the side of the road like a half mile away from me. They yard is right across the street but i think it would be better to just go paint the trains by the road right?

theres is no chill walls around here. like i said, no writers at all or any graff. The only chill wall i can think of is a highway wall with 5 foot weeds infront. so the best bet would be freights because this city is infested with them.
and what i meant is if graffiti isn't a problem here would yards still have patrols and stuff?
Vinnie Paz

it all depends there could be patrols for people breaking into fr8s to the patrols arent for just graffiti so your gona have to go check it out urself jus dont bring paint.

Just go scope it out once before you decide to do anything. Don't bring paint, markers, etc.. Just walk up and see whats up with the spot then go from there.

Just to get a layout of where stuffs at yeah I think that'd be fine. Just don't look suspicious and shit.
But if you were wondering about patrols and all that then I doubt there'd be much of anything going on until at night, know what I mean?

ok i know im only 13 but ive painted alot of trains in my time.probably a couple hundred or so.and so i know how to get away with these things...first off you want to go to your local yard.if you dont have one you might have to travel which i know can be hard if all you have is a bike.i suggest not riding them on the tracks you might pop your tires.anyways wants you get their you will have to get over the fence.i suggest getting some wire cutters.make a big hole in the fence.big enough for you to get away quickly if you happen to get chased.next you want to find your target for you to tag on.i know its tempting but dont write on the walls.thats just stupid.stick to the trains.get your colors all together.the best and quickest way to get famous on the trains real quick is to hit as many freights as you can.preferably in a row.this way when the train rolls by all people will see is your name all the way down.how dope would that be.you can easily knock off 20 or 30 cars with only 3 or 4 cans.trust me on this..and if you can try and hit the engine.its the lead car that the person drives.thats major ups if you do it.and also when you done just throw your cans in the bushes.no one checks them probably and its better to dump them there then to get caught with them by the police on the bikeride home.that is if you didnt blow a flat on the ride lol.cheers and happy bombing.

Agreed with the shit about MSK, but idk where you live but in my city they have guards on the yards at night so shit is pretty sketchy. However, as long as you hit the far side of the car and watch your back, you'll be ok here. Anyway, my point is just don't be too sure no one is watchin ur spot unless you've really scoped it out.

the big numbers on the top are its identifing numbers.without those the people dont know where its going who owns it whats inside of it yadda yadda yadda.dont paint those.the load limit and capacity shit under it is vitl too and you shouldnt paint over them.basicly any numbers and shit you see on there are important and shouldnt be painted on(even tho most people do) unless your looking to get stamped.depending on what your type of car your painting you might have lots of space to get down on and on some you really only have the door panel to rock.but again most people dont even give a fuck and go over the numbers anyways.
EDIT: this is an older version of the southern pacific they dont really look like this anymore.still red and everthing but theyve changed it up a bit.

Follow these rules, basically summed it up.
Don't paint the walls of the yard, it only brings heat, espically if there aren't many writers in your town already. Don't leave your cans either. The yard works don't care about painting freights (in my town, they'll just tell you to leave because they don't want you getting hurt) but they do give a shit when you leave your empty cans and they have to clean them up, that's just a dick move, don't do it and they won't care.

Follow these rules, basically summed it up.
Don't paint the walls of the yard, it only brings heat, espically if there aren't many writers in your town already. Don't leave your cans either. The yard works don't care about painting freights (in my town, they'll just tell you to leave because they don't want you getting hurt) but they do give a shit when you leave your empty cans and they have to clean them up, that's just a dick move, don't do it and they won't care.
yo where do you live?

fuck youre dumb!! vandalsquad is fucking painting over the computer. you should seriously go into your alcoholic dad's gun cabinet and load some slugs and pull a Kurt Cobain you braindead piece of shit.
Hey, Vandal Squad is also (in some areas) a graffiti prevention/cleanup group who volunteer to report graffiti, prevent it, and clean it up.

Does anybody know if you can take the freight's numbers and find out where it's been/where it's going? Theres some abandoned ones by my house and it would be interesting to find out where they were and what they carried and stuff.

the best thing a rail head can do is move to a small town with a yard. i moved out to a town that has less people in it than the highschool I graduated from. Only one cop car on patrol at any time, no patrol between 3 and 7. they've recognized me as "that nice young man who often goes out for a late evening constitutional". there's little security in the yard, and the far end is like an all you can paint buffet. if you can't live there, take a trip out there. if your local spot is shitty, look abroad, you'll find something.

I've only walked around some freight and had little experiance but Ive heard some rules that I would keep in mind if I would ever would consiter to paint any.
-If you drip take the rocks and throw them in the bushes,
-Take EVERYTHING you bring
-Try not to go over monikers
-No matter how old and rusted graffiti is, you should refrain from painting it, writers names can be a little hard to see that night.
-Dont paint 2 trains beside each other
-Some big writers own yards, So do your research before you get your ass beat.
-Milk crates are a great thing to stand on.
-Tape and cardboard over numbers works pretty well
-Keep a low profile, you can get ticketed form just being in there,
-You should be extreamly careful when walking in between or under (never walk under) the trains,
- My tip is you should stay on the same side as your exit just in case a line can block you form getting out of the spot if something happens.
You should be brought into the yards by an older more experienced writer if you ask me, Theres just way to many things that could go wrong or you could easily put yourself into danger. Trains aswell as everything in graffiti demand alot... ALOT of respect and you cant learn everything off the internet, the best way is to go to your local yard and bench them. I've heard of yards that have designated spots where people can shoot photos of the trains at a safe spot, I'd imagine there would be train buffs there you could chat to and learn alot more then the internet has to offer.
If I ever moved to a small town in buttfuck nowhere, I would be in heaven.

small towns are ok if they have large yards, but most small towns are nowhere near heaven lol... my town has a decent sized yard and its relatively 'buttfuck nowhere' so i like it... but after u hit a yard 4-5 times u start to realize that its not big enough... i wish i had a big-city sized yard even if it had more security... at least id be able to just go wild and hit more cars, a big yard can seem really small once u hit it a few times is what im sayin...
and i dont know why u wouldnt paint 2 cars that are next to each other??? maybe dont do 2 pieces right next to each other but if ur tryin to get up then its not a bad idea to do one throwup on every car u possibly can.

My town is somewhat small, about 2000 kids go to my highschool, the yard i use is a little concrete factory or whatever and its closed on the weekends with no security. It holds about 8 cars and it even has its own ladder to climb on. No one ever uses it but it can be a bit scary because there is a road that runs right above it and anyone on the passenger side of an on-coming car can see you so I don't stick around after im done. I use a side of a building to get onto the tracks and they do have cameras but the building is quite tall so I just walk on the far edge of the parking lot so they can't really see me. The best thing about the yard is its about a 15 min walk 5 min bike ride from my house. I never leave cans behind or go over the numbers or anyone elses stuff unless its some half faded tag and I need a bit more room. Pretty much no one cares except the police if they see me and I could be at my house in under 5 minutes if I had to really run, the best advice is to either have someone come with you that is calm cool and just wants to see whats up and try to paint or go by yourself because i've had friends that wanted to tag along to see some "cool graffiti, brah" and it ended up with them tripping over the tracks every 5 minutes because they don't know how to walk correctly.

we don't have trains or freights here or anything, the only trains we have are stationary and broken (funny enough that they're also guarded :S but I still infiltrated that shit just to try it out and say that I've bombed a train in my life hehe :P)
anyway, quick question what does "getting stamped" exactly mean ?
(could be a stupid quest, but like I said we don't have that shit here)

I would HIGHLY HIGHLY avoid painting freights in DC. That entire area is crawling with security. I've heard the police literally escort trains through there, I can only imagine how bad the yards around there would be.

Painting freight trains behind factories is alot diffrent then yards, Ive been around alot of factories with 7-8 trains behind them, Some of them never move for months, Always scope out your spot and research it befor you paint it. Things will go alot more smoother that way.

http://oldunclecrow.wordpress.com/2009/08/31/a-glossary-of-train-lingo/
Made a trip to my first yard today to scope things out and the place looks pretty locked down, Can anyone give me tips on just benching frights? Should i just post up at the mouth of the yard and just wait for the lines to pull out or is there a train shedual I could find somewhere, any help is great.

I live right next to a yard with no fences. The tracks go behind my house, and I've snuck in several times [not to paint]. There's a hobo village laid up under the bridge by the yard, and a couple dope peices on it. But I don't know about security!!! And where the hell am I going to find other writers, anyway? [don't answer that.] What I'm getting at is, am I going to get caught, or should I just keep jumping on slowed down trains? [Gotta consdier wind, if you do that] And if I tell you where I live, is there some cop on this site trying to bust me? Maybe by some miracle there's a local writer around.... There's actually many here, but all the graff is hidden under bridges by creeks and shit....

train hopping to the next stop hope its to a deader yard. jump off paint it .. jump back on the next night when they move.. im sure it would be sketchy but im sure its fun to train hop if u know where ur going haha...
heres some tips in a yard.. ive done some mistakes and learned from them so heres a few
dont tag every train.
dont paint the numbers. thats like u going and spraying ur licence plate on ur car.
dont fuckin leave ur garbage. bring it all with you when you leave or whip the shit in the bush as far as u can. in my case i have to bring it back to the car.
dont sidebust.
dont paint trains during the day if ur a toy.
dont cap others .. unless otherwise.
dont tag surrounding areas around the yard.. kinda did that back in the day n got shitted on by the bigger dudes that use the yard in my hood.
go big and always fill properly.
and dont get caught. if security finds u run the fuck outta there the fastest u possibly can.

im not in the hood though. a middle class city. Theres absolutly no writers here either so would the yard still have security?
every single yard has security no matter what...even chill yards in the middle of nowhere.

dude...don't jump on moving trains, you don't know what could happen. wait until night when the yard in inactive when you can paint the trains, although i wouldn't even recommend that seeing that you live RIGHT NEXT to a yard..just find a chill layup somewhere further from your house.
i'm not a freight king, but i've been to the yards more than enough times and i know etiquette.
-don't be a stupid cock sucker and you won't get hemmed up. plain and simple. and for what it's worth, try and figure out which direction the freight rolls and hit the side that would be facing the highway, in the event the freights get parked up off the highway like they do in good ol south florida.
great have them catch a body. great advise asshole.
