So you write and you want to join a crew... or maybe you want to meet others who love your passion, and all your mates hate it.. well, post your teqniques on how to meet others who love writing.

Bake sales and swap meets are good places but you'll catch guys painting in yards or you might hear the rattle from cans coming from a guy on the bus or whatever.

find a thread dedicated to your area and try contacting someone, try and prove your not police, then meet up at neutral turf. Also just check out graff spots there might be people chillin, don't be scared to ask a person if they write.

And also say just that. ask "Hey do you write?" then they say yes or they say WHAT?!? cause people that don't write don't know what writing is, simple as that. I met a few people just by checking out hot piecing areas during the day.

Lastly, once you meet one writer it's easy to meet others, just ask if it's okay to go bombing with them or not even to paint with them just tag along. And then they might say okay and they'll bring along another friend, then that person becomes your friend too, now you have two people to go boming with then when you go out with one of them and they bring another writer, that's three people, and so on until you're down with the scene and people ask YOU to go bombing.

Oh and last, yea listen for rattling cans in someones bag, look at their finger nails and see if they're covered in paint, paint splotches on their clothing, that's how someone noticed me, my finges had paint smudges on them while i was on the bus.

most crews are made up of people who are friends and write and they grow larger over time when they meet new people.

just like anyone else.

graffiti is for hobbistys (sp?) like anyone with a hobbie they tend to meet people that share the common ground by going to places that have an abundance of whatever there looking for. you wanna meet writers? go to a legal wall, a graff jam, a messageboard. not everyone will be to down to just go chill with you right off the bat and put you in there crew.


most of the time i've met other writers through friends who also write.

The best ways I think to find other writers is to find local threads in your neighborhood or hang around graff spots in the daytime or nighttime.. how I found a group of taggers was I asked bums around the area if they had ever seen people graffing around here and they would tell me the times that they were usually around.. I like tagging alone though because there is more of a rush and plus its the only time I dont have to share my weed with everyone.

it helps to make it clear to everyone who writes that you write. at school, throw down a tag on the white board from time to time, allow your fingers to get a little paint on them. spend ur class time drawing. ussually they will approach you, and ussually no one else can tell

Werd. I write in my notebooks and that's nearly gotten me booked, i don't dare think about writing anything in sight of teachers. I wouldn't reccomend leaving your tag around school. There is some thread around about tagging your school, read it and you'll understand.

Tons of doodling on school walls but you throw up one tag in the corner of all the doodling, then suddenly your school cracks down on graffiti. Or you bomb a school that's not even yours, the entire ward or district gets investigated.

The problem doesn't only deal with you, you tag your school and you heat out other writers.

I'm a toy too so don't take my word for the absolute truth or anything. But the problem with that statement there is that you're asking them for their handle, their graff name.

When i've met someone, i say "Hey do you write?" It's a pretty safe question to ask cause only other writers will know what you're referring too, everyone else will be like WTF? But anwyays if they say "Yea", then introduce yourself to them. "That's cool, man i write too, my name is (Real name here), i get up in this area." the other guy will probably share the same information. Then if you're combfortable with it, share your handle and hopefully they'll do the same, you shouldn't have to ask for someones handle.

And if worse comes to worse and you think it just slipped their mind to tell you, it's not a HORRIBLE thing to ask, but still try to avoid asking in general.

@Mekas - From my little experience on the scene, i think a general rule that's sorta formed has been no hitting homes, no hitting churhces and no hitting schools. But i guess it depnds on your area and if you're school has already been painted on before or whatever, but uhh yea whatever.

Two words: Art Class. Nothing is a better jump-off than flexing your skills with the paper and pen, doing assigned work. You'll be noticed, or others will be noticed by you. There are always cats who take Visual Arts so that they can practise their handstyles and create bomb concepts to be used one late night. Get to know those that you think may have the midnight itch and if they don't, inspire them to follow your lead.

If nothing else, you can always Google a keyword like "graffiti" and check out the search results. That's how I stumbled upon Bombing Science.

everyone knows that writers are pretty cocky about what they do, and in most cases don't make a deal about covering it up. this is especially frequnt with newer younger writers, who are the ones you will want to be with at the beggining levels. if you see some punk kid with paint on his shoe and a sake tee, then don't hesitate to aproach them. also, people wearing hats made be local writers is ussually a big indication. just be polite and don't try to sell yourself to them as hot shit. should work for you.

I tried meeting kids by tagging up some of the stalls in my school and seeing if anyone else would follow....well some did and the tags were horrible. im a junior now and last year there were so many good writers but i never got to meet any of them so they probably all graduated. i live in Bensalem and go to a Catholic HS in the Northeast (Philly)..its ok but i know there are probably a lot more good writers that go to my local Public HS

Well there are several ways to meet writers I was just very lucky. You can usually go to local legal walls, unknown spots that are popular etc. Heres my story, Im just a kid I started this summer with my buddy we formed a crew with a bunch of other people and we went down to the thoth oneday ( a very popuular graff spot in st catharines) with my buddies bro who was going to film a rap video. Hes a local rapper called En Are Spektre. Well anyway he knew a bunch of writers there and introduced us to Keans,Safe,Guts,Kaust and some others. What we didnt know at the time was that they were some of our cities greatest writers. So weve been learning from them ever since

I havent met shit for writers around here since the scene is pretty dead....We got a headshop called Professor's that had a mural done inside by this guy from Minneapolis but other than that--No real graff scene since 00' or 01'

I got puzzled tho cause there was some imposter tags n shit around here, cause theres this writer called Muse, but he doesnt even live in MN--but i saw the same exact throwie cept put up as like...one of them single colored bombs on this train bridge--Got leeched off of art crimes i think..

If you cant find writers around where you're at, get people interested in writing..maybe teaching em how to do shit will help you learn even more

Allright, here's an interesting story from last night.

I know this spot, it's bombed up to shit. I was planning on checking it out so I park my car around 12:46 or so. Before I park in the abandoned lot, right away some dude's walking down the street, by the bridge I was going to hit. I thought it was weird how he was walking around there, and I noticed his oversized coat. I kept looking back and forth at him, and he was doing the same. I glanced away, checking my bag for the caps and I looked back for him. The bastard disappeared! That really made me think he was a writer. I started my car back up and headed to the industrial zone a few blocks away to do my shitty ass 12 minute throw. I pack up and head back. Now, walking on the way back I swear I could hear rattling.

I thought he was under the bridge so I quietly walked underneath it.

Nobody was there....

I was either flippin out or he was a fuckin' ninja man. Or he hid...idk...

But I'm pretty interested in meeting other writers in the KC area.
