View Full Version : Oil Pastels
one of my friends gave me a ton of solid oil pastels.. i did a buff test on some old concrete and they seem kinda like lumber crayons... has anyone used these before for writing and do they fade in the sun like sharpies will?

i use oil pastels all the time. like for that black hand rail on escalators. its like this rubber and pastels last on it more then most paint.

yeah but those oil pastels stink when u micro them!!! and chapstick tube suck they dont turn when you try and turn them!!! so its gay better to just put em in a pvc pipe thats capped then break it open and put a paper towel round it and go bombin!

nah fuck markals... u cant get as good colors as jumbo oil pastels. i can get neons, metallics, bright pinks, whataver fucking color i want in pastels. and the shit is very permanent. since it doesnt dissolve easy u have to scrub hard to get it off. some colors will even leave a stain. plus they are colorfast. they dont fade since its made for artist. artist expect the colours to last for over 50 years without changing much.
are markals those lumber crayons or are they markers or wat, wat r they?lol, i want some but i cant find them!

ya they are lumber crayons.. and since bombing science doesnt carry them, i guess its okay to point you to a place that does... ******** (http://********.com/onsale.htm)
ya look at the bottom of the page... anyway they are hella good.. if u write on concrete it doesnt use that much but it is good and hard to buff... good for use on brick, concrete, wood, etc.. not that good for smooth surfaces but awesome for surfaces that u wouldnt use a streak on cuz its too rough (because it would use SO DAMN MUCH).. anyway i would reccomend them highly... they are cheap to!
thanks zil, i appreciate it!
no problem... funny how some of the toys on this forum will want answers to their questions but refuse to answer anyone elses... stupid fucks...
oh and oil pastels r fuckin awesome, especially for doin little characters on trains! they work best on smooth metal (like trains)
sek.. wont they just rub off metal???
not the ones that i use , they do if u run ur finger throo it rite after u drew it but if u let it sit for a nite then u hav to scrape it off!

i am not aguring with you but oil pastels will fade to white in about 3 months. i used them in my toy days and then i progressed to the markal. the markal is 8x better and it dries hard unlike the pastel which stays soft and gummy

sek those things streaks on arprimo are not markals
a markal is a specific brand paintstick that has a cardboard cover surrounding it like seen in this photo
http://photos.fotango.com/p/eba00437205f00000010.jpg
the streaks that u have to turn get all gummy and shitty and are not worth the 6 bucks compared to a one dollar markal which is 6 times better
hey oblong where can i get some of these?

if you want markal lumber crayons which are better for rough surfeces look at ********.. if you want the paintsticks which are kinda like streaks and more ideal for smoother surfaces, you have to get those at the markal website.. i dont know of any stores that carry them, but then again, im in the states...,
cool , thanx for the info every body!(by the way do ne of u guys hav ne character flix that u cud post in the character thread)
oh and do those paint stix come in different colours, ( iam lookin for the type of markals that other uses to draw his characters)
ya if you go to markal.com click on industrial/welding, then on catalog, and then on cold surface paintstiks they have every color u would want..

p.s. pastels will come off if you run your finger across them on smooth surfaces.

If you're tagging in a place where it won't be baked in the sun, you could give it a quick flame job, just carry some deodorant spray, wd40, bug spray or whatever the hell you choose to use and give it a nice bake, without the sun.

You can purchase them for a small price at fine, local art stores. Check your Yellow Pages if you're unsure of where to find a retailer. Just be sure not to buy the cheap crap that they sell at the dollar store, since most of those sticks are very brittle and of poor quality. In fact, I'm on my way out to get a few colours right now...

can you wipe it off easily?

Nope
Nope
Thy are just like streaks, just not as permanent, but good enough.
Sometimes they will fade if there in a spot with direct sunlight and rain. They cant be completely wiped off easily, but people can definatly fuck them up if they wanted to by rubbing them with a cloth or something really hard depenting on what surface there on such as a smooth mailbox side, on wood there pretty permanent tho. i have black tags that i did on wood over a year ago that are still up. ive seen them 12 for 1$ at dollar stores, you can also find them for free from your art class at school useally. something else thats good about them is if they get painted over you can still see them showing through the paint like a ghost tag. the thing about them is there a little hard to get used to at first, but just remmeber dont press too hard, ive done it and the tags still there and its an embarassment. if you want a streak that will stay up for a long fucking time get something like a sakura, but there like 5$ for one

Some of them faded, some of them stayed depending on the surface.Canada Post glossed grey mailboxes hold unto pastel fairly well, but dumbasses try to buff it with SCOURING BRUSH :P,and still there is a faint outline left. You could just scrub it off with a tissue.
