Get any pets out of there, mask off the surrounding area and floor from over-spray. Get a piece of plywood or cardboard to test your lines and colors. Use an interior primer- you could find a cheep half gal can somewhere that was custom mixed and set aside for half the usual cost. A fan is a good idea. Put it near an open window blowing the fumes outside. Make sure your ready with a sketch. Use a resperator! not a disposable mask. Drain Bramage can occure!

do not under any circumstance switch air conditioning units in the room on. Paint particles'll get stuck in their filter systems and ruin them. make sure your room is well aired out and all the windows open, with a fan to help push all the smell and paint fumes out. of course, use a respirator. and mask off the excess parts of the canvas you're planning on painting to get a clean result with no overspray on other walls/surfaces. use some plastic foil on the floor to not stain the floors in case you spill any paint or a can goes bad...
    that about sums it up.
and you'll need to air the room out for a full day afterwards. maybe 2 or 3, depending on how well ventilated is the room and how much time you spent painting..
some guys use lacquer to gloss and protect the piece later on, but I find it unnecessary

just make sure no one needs to use the room for a few days because it will smell if its a very closed space, also if you can, bring an industrial fan to vent the place out it will save your life and aid you in getting rid of the smell. if you cant just be sure to do anything possible to vent the place out. and make sure to wear an actual respirator not those little white things.
