Starting off with the graffiti game, I now that there are threads in here about this, so please don't come here and post url's of the old threads in order to kill mine. I feel that this topic is important enough to make a new thread about since posting in the old thread doesn't have the same affect. I love graffiti so much that I would hate to see this topic neglected. Anyway as you all may know, and have known, Mark Echo made a game about graffiti were you walk around a city put your tag up and beat the shit out of random people (?). I know that there are many people on here or in graffiti in general that wouldn't mind having that stereo type, made about graffiti (a guy in baggie pants who listens to 50¢ and beats the shit out of defenceless people, and maybe later robs them.) So basically a graffiti writer is a gangster from the ghetto. Think what you want about this, I know some wannabe suburban kids love this stereotype about graffiti writers. I guess it makes them fell more hardcore about what there doing. ^^ Your typical graffiti writer, watch out, if you look at him the wrong way he may beat the shit out of you with that floor board. "Movieweb.com reported in December that MTV had bought the rights to turn Marc Ecko's game into a feature film." MTV, the TV channel for 12 year old suburban girls, has bought the rights to Ecko's graffiti game is going to make a movie about it. I think this would be one of the biggest blows to graffiti imaginable. First of all one of the main things which attracts me to graffiti,and all ways has, is mystery. Graffiti is supposed to be a secret tradition that only those who figure it out, on there own can do, or participate in. With the making of a movie, especially by MTV is really going to suck. The whole culture's mystery (to those who don't do graffiti) that I've allways loved so much will be gone. Thats to bad. Anyway, I am extremely interested in seeing what other graffiti writers think about all this on a more serious level.

I wouldn't say it's totally helpless. The game features a few famous writers, and I can only imagine the second game and movie will feature even more. What we can do, is try to work together to make sure the serious graff community sees what these games/movies are doing, and hopefully discourage them from taking part. While that wont stop the stuff from being made (Johnny McSuburb isn't going to know the difference between the real Cope2 and a made up guy named Chope3) But it will, in the very least, help people hold on to a shred of what they call 'sacred'. The sad thing is, people have needs, and money takes care of needs. Most writers aren't going to deny six-figures in order to fight for their 'values'.

i haven't played this game, only seen previews for it. i am against the game and i can't beleive mtv is going to make a movie about graff. like they know what the fuck they are doing. the whoring of another "underground culture". all that rap bullshit on the radio is now called hip hop. hip hop? that shit is NOT hip hop. farthest thing from it. skateboarding used to be looked down upon and now it's the coolest. but even cooler to just dress like you skate. and now the mainstream has set its sights on graffiti. FUCK OFF! i agree totally that graf should be underground and a mystery to most people. i was introduced graffiti by a good friend of mine. and since like 1999 ive been bombing the hell out of this planet. i fucking hate seeing the random ass tag, in the wackest hand style you have ever seen. most kids who write today don't know where graff came from. im all for new blood in this scene, but not fake mall kids who rock hollister when they go out and throw up thier kronik tag. if you don't live, love, and breath graffiti....then get out. leave this graff shit to the real artisits. wack children stay the fuck back! if i see you with some 98 cent wal mart can tagging some ridiculous ass bull shit, you better run motha fucka! cause im gonna beat your ass! ahahahahahaahahaha! and maybe even use my can of 4 dollar rusto as a flame thrower and burn you! then go tag trane on a moving subway car!!!! yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this god damn mainstream is ruining music and now they are going to hurt graff. when will this beast be stopped?
i could probably still be considered somewhat toy, but their are so many kids in my area that run around, doing mindless shit with spraypaint. they write their names on bushes, stopsigns, everywhere that is just fucking retarted, and it looks like complete ass. you cant go anywhere in my town without seeing pure shit done by 12 year olds. and this gay game and movie are only going to increase the level of dumbasses doing mindless shit all over. it pisses me off. they know nothing about graffiti, think its cool to vandalize any random persons fence and shit with their ''tags'' that look worse than their handwriting with a pen. it makes the cops more alert about graffiti, making it more likely for actual writers to get caught in my area.
I'm still not sure how I feel about it, after playing it for a bit, I guess it works as a video game, but not really as a snapshot into the culture. It's hard for anyone to take Trane as a serious graffiti writer, I mean, how many of us have surfed on a subway, or beat the shit out of some cops with a car battery?
The idea of this is complete and total bullshit, Mtv is gonna do what they did to street racing before those homo movies came out it was an underground culture thing that not many people knew about., and now everyone thinks its gay and dumb and who ever street races is a pussy, because its been played out its done and over with. Now this movie is gonna do the same thing People are gonna be like ooooo thats tight and shit,... give 6 months and anyone who even mentions a sign of tagging is gonna be called a homo wanna be regardless of skill. THis gay movie is gonna build an image from what? SOme Huge gangsta wanna be probably pumped up on to much steroids, anger problems and, and a complete and total lack of skill. Think about ur school or w/e now think how many people are in it. take away 1/3 of them and there you go u'll be surrounded by around 1800 toys, who the fuck wants that?
