the way the R is placed there, if he left the numbers oncovered it would mess up the letter quite a bit. oh well, that car will run until buff.

it&#39;s true. Oh well, i guess it&#39;s good for the flick and you could always rewrite the numbers yourself smaller so you don&#39;t catch the buff...whatevs...don&#39;t matter much to me..not my train, mine are always off the numbers.

yer the man cool guy. it doesn&#39;t take much to fill a hopper with cans anyways..like you said, it&#39;s not a box car, hoppers are tiny compared to a box. fuck the rules tho..well...you must be above em, even in a society where you&#39;re not following rules, you still have to follow certain guidlines if you want to keep things together. think about it.

fatchicks, it&#39;s best to ride someone so that they learn quick. Fact is, if you leave the numbers be, it&#39;ll most probably run for longer but if they can&#39;t ID the car, they have to pull it and remedy the situation.
We surmised on the old boards that writing in the ID number by hand won&#39;t cut it.

Since we&#39;re on the subject, here&#39;s a story...

I was checking out this line getting ready to leave, flicking it like crazy and I stopped infront of a Play piece, brand new, and partially over the numbers. Then a worker going from car to car checking out his list and the cars&#39; reporting mark came by the play piece and couldn&#39;t get the info he wanted. But he didn&#39;t seamed to mind at all and continued to the end of the car, looked on the top side where there&#39;s the same reporting mark stamped and went on with his job.

Maybe they don&#39;t care that much afterall, but I&#39;m still keeping my pieces off the numbers tho.

and the fact that when i do paint hopper wholecars i don&#39;t use some spot in the middle of fuckin nowhere where i would be needing a ladder. Good call. How do you realize I took you for a newjack? There was no hint, what-so-ever, of my assuming how much experience you have or don&#39;t have with freights or painting in general.


As for the numbers being on the top right hand corners of the ends of cars, this is true. But if you go to a big yard, you may see a worker, driving down the line, checking the numbers, they need to look at a car and ID it right away. In the old days, they would perform this action sometimes, when the train was rolling by a tower. Hence, visible and un-interfered with numbers, on the side of the car, are the easiest for the RRs.
