I agree whole heardtly with you about the 50 cent thing, he is what many would call a sellout however I think that definition needs a little tweaking, 50 Cent made a very impressive debut in my mind with Get Rich or Die Trying, he dropped some really ill mess that showed that he does have what it takes to be an MC, he has some very deep lyrics on a few tracks and his party tracks were as always great for the club.

So he soldout, he did what he had to do to make his hustle work, he continued to make party tracks cause thats what he got famous for, so now you are left with a decent MC who has I would prefer "evolved" rather than sold out to make money, you are left with an album like the massacre which is all Club tracks and one diss tracks adn than trash but it will still sell millions...50 Cent did what he had to do, straight up talking G Unit here I agree with you on this one point, 50 Cent is not an emulation of what hiphop was in the golden era which is what I prefer, but you have to admit that hip hop has changed wheather for what we think better or worse it doesn't matter, its more popular than ever and it will continue to change, the move back towards lyricism will come which brings me to my next topic thing...

This movement back to lyrics and "intelligent" hiphop featuring more MCs like Nas, and Talib Kweli will come, hiphop moves in phases, it began with the Run DMC killing beats left and right just to make a name for themselves, they did similar to 50 Cent what they had to do to get their money, however we like to think they did it to expand their music, which is to a degree true but they evolved just like 50 and opened ther door for hiphop, than everything came streaming through, smart raps old school style, hiphop than moved on to gangsta era which we all know featuring N.W.A and Ice Cube and finally moving back to lyricism with Quest, KRS and so fourth.

I would argue that hiphop is just moving back into a gangsta phase after a period of lyriscm and it will make a turnaround again in the upcoming years...

So with that said, what do most of your preferred underground artist rap about? youd like to think more intelligent and important things, so in a couple years I would say these underground are going to move to the foreground, and they will no longer be the underground, imtelligence and thought will be teh mainstream and will you still like them than? Or are you stuck in the mindset that I just want to be different and be saying different stuff other than the radio?

Gesus you have good points man and I respect that HipHop is a real interprative thing and its really what you make it, I just dont like people ignoring tons of artists just because they are mainstream...

and if I insulted you by calling you a backpacker that wasn't the intention, thats just what I seem to know you by...

I enjoyed this and if you dont know about the old school get educated because thats where it all began and no one can touch my Tribe Called Quest underground or mainstream...

ok well ill start off by saying i know where hip hop has came from so there so i so see where its going (just like breaking did got popular and then died and its coming back) but i feel u on your whole first paragraph about what fifty did too get in there

well ok im more into abstract shit im a fuckin nerd for anticon doseone.. btu some of my other fav type of emcees its poets liek sage francis, josh martines, i enjoy other artist like NINE, Mf doom, kool keith, charizma, gemni, icon the mic king.... so im more into lyrical shit with meaning shit i can relate too im a producer so im also HUGE into to production a turntablism and experimental productions along with jungle and what not

iight my people im here. First off FAT man i respect what you have said jus simply because you backed it up and had very good arguments along wit it.
Honestly, in my opinion, i have no fucking respect for 50. Yeah i will agree that some of his rhymes WERE dope, however now, its a completely differnent thing. In the movie BEEF he has an interview in there about what the deal is with him and Ja rule. He says "I jus dont like that *****" when asked why he replies with somethin along the lines of he isnt in it for the art, hes jus on stage to sell records, hes a pop icon not a rapper, him and Christina Aguilera should go do a song together... When i heard this comment i had no choice but to laugh, simply because everything he said was wrong wit Ja is exactly what he is today. Thats my view on 50. Also my homie CASONE told me last night about an interview where they were interviewing "the game" and they asked him about this one incident where he threw his chain out into the crowd at a concert. His reply "Because im not in this rap game for the money, Im in it for the love of hip hop" hahahahahha my fuckin ass. Keep in mind this is coming from a wack ass wanna-be-emcee who has bitten from every great emcee there ever was. I doubt that one single rhyme is even his.
Im not saying that all mainstream cats are wack money hungry devils, but the majority of them are. All the cats that are signed to a label sure they may sell 1 million records, and go platinum...but when there contract is over, how much money you think that company is actually gonna give them....not shit. And that is a proven fact.
The main thing that pisses me off today, is when you look at what the masses are being subjected to as far as whos on MTV and BET, who are reppin "Hip hop". they are sending the completely wrong message to people. Now we have all these kids who listen to the music of G-unit and whoever else, walkin around thinkin theyre thugs cause of the music theyre listening to. thinkin they know what hip hop is. they have no fuckin idea what Hip hop is. Hip hop is a mindstate, a concious (sp) way to be and a way to live every part of your life. I say this because i know, i live this culture and try to give back as much as i can. it is my duty as a true hip hoppa to give back to my people in every way i possibly can...
