barbed fucking wire for the win haha. so far heres a list of things i think im going to want/need. let me know if im missing something or have something dumb on there lol

tripod
remote flash(es)
studio light
reflectors (might try to make some ghetto ones)
possibly a cable release
extra battery
grip
lenses in the future, not sure what i want though deff a fisheye
should i get some filters too?

Forget tripod for now, forget studio lights, buy one decent SB-600 and then more cheap flashes, forget cable releases, grip is handy simply for shooting portrait, I use mine constantly, no need for filters in what your doing. Remember if you want a fisheye you won't be able to use it with auto focus on your D40, which sucks.

got my 285hv today. This thing is excellent when it comes to the vari-power meter. I can get it to cover my 10mm lens inside too, so I might try it out at a show this weekend.

that does kinda suck, a fisheye can wait though, it's not super important. the reason i wanted a tripod and a possible studio lights is that shows isnt the only thing i want to shoot. i want to do senior portraits and various stuff with models as well

Does that go for any fisheye? I tried using manual focus once but i don't know how the fuck you use it.

Nikon fisheyes only work with cameras that have auto focus motors. So anything that isn't a d40 d60 d3000 or d5000. A fisheye is so wide anyway its pretty easy to focus manually.

Learn to use focus manually anyway, it should be second nature.

How do you use it? I Tried it and i just zoomed in and things became out of focus. How do you clear those things up?

yeah man, that would be great. i think though, the best way for me to figure shit out is to just go out and try it myself. i just find some of it overwhelming. i'll prolly spend a few days just messing with different things just to see for myself what they do and how i can use them
