it's a nikon D80 with a few different lenses:
50mm f1.8
10.5mm f2.8 fisheye
12-24mm f4

get outside, lug your camera to where u wouldn't usually, snap everything, don't take photos of snail shit, i personally like photos of people and find anything else boring, just take your camera everywhere, download lightroom 2.0 - heres a link

cos taking the photos is only step one... theres alot more work to be done afterwards
just play around, get a tripod, take long exposure night shots, another good site is:
