nope, I've heard some pretty good things about their primes but I'm not too sure about the zooms. I'm really curious about their new 85 1.4 but its not stocked yet plus 85 on my crop sensor is too long for me. Can't wait to get a new body

I wasn't able to find an 85 on the sigma website. I'm interested so long as it it sharp at least in the centre wide open.

it was announced late february, I think around the same time they announced the new 70-200 2.8 stabilized, which I also can't find on sigma's site. I'm assuming they'll price the 85 round $1000, so for nikon shooters it might be worth it to dish out an extra couple hundred on nikons 85 1.4, but since canon is either 1.8 or 1.2 the sigma sounds like a nice in between for those who can't dish out $2500 on the 1.2.

ak, I have a sigma 10-20mm. People always complain about the build quality of sigmas, but my one sigma lens is tough as a rock. It's tougher then any of my EF lenses, besides the L. It takes nice pictures too (I think.)

i dont really know what a canon s2 is
but for shallow depth of field (which is what you described) you use apertures with low numbers like 2.8 etc.

for a canon s2, it's the bottom button on the left side of the lens. On a camera like that you gotta get stupid close to the object to make the DOF go out. You aren't gonna be getting shallow dof on portriats.

AK, I got my new point&shoot camera today. You'll like it, it's the kind that says DC VARIO SUMMICRON on the lens......... Can't wait to get it out of the house
