Your line work is in dire need of improvement. Practice drawing straight lines, curves, etc. Don't worry about letters right now. Stick to basic shapes.
I don't think thats what he meant...he said don't hit trains with THAT, not throw-ups! the reason being that they might run for longer than you would like and may haunt you once your style develops.
