So I'm writing a paper for my art history course on Public Art about graffiti in America and Europe. My thesis is basically that the American graffiti scene is more oriented toward getting up the most, and in the craziest spots, while the European scene is more oriented toward beautifying the urban landscape.

I think that this is can be traced back to the fact that America is a very individualistic society, one in which we are told we can be whatever we want to be if we work hard enough at it, while European governments have a more socialist bent and it is reflected in the street artist's goal of creating a public art gallery for all to see free of charge.

I need a source, which hopefully one of you writers can provide, saying that street art is more for others to observe and enjoy, while the American graffiti scene is aimed only at people within the scene and is not meant for the public's consumption and enjoyment.

    These are my questions:
    1. Why do you do graffiti/street art?

    2. Who is your work aimed at?

    3. Does your work contain a social/political message?

    4. What got you started?

Come on you writers out there, help out a fellow writer get an A :D

So you're saying you need someone to puppet what your oppinion is about US vs. Euro graff and how it associates to their ruling governments even tho it's obviously personal theory with little evidence to back it? Watch Dirty Hands 2... You really think Europe is all about creating art to beautify the urban landscape? Sure, some is, but they have MORE than enough cats out there straight BOMBING. Shit... Look at their letter styles. They're built for speed of getting up. Youtube has vids of those crazy fuckers catching 100+ tags inside a car and then kicking out all the windows...... US has bombers and artists and little hybrids of everything else, and Europe is no different in that respect. It sounds like you're trying to compare American graff to European street art.. Why? It makes as much sense as comparing American graff to American street art. They're different genres and both countries have a wealth of each. I like the governmental theories.. They're fun, but I don't think they're a realistic view of the European scene. They aren't all out to beautify... Their goal is getting up too for the most part. I'd rework the concept of your thesis.:(

yeah... it's better to just keep the misinformation flowing. Who cares about reality. I just read thru 3 pages of this guy telling everyone off in toy forum who tried to give him legit crits, including Rots.. He really seems to think his philosophies on graff are way better than the actual culture that its based on(that's been around waaay longer than him with waaay smarter people involved in it, and I'm saying that out of pure mathmatical likelyhood + the fact that 9 times out of 10, a smart person can navigate a forum without fighting with a dozen people after only 30 posts).. He prolly wont listen anyway, and he doesn't seem to have much respect for letter graffiti in general unless it's his own (which even tho he's telling everybody else how recylced their shit looks, his looks like Acee's from RTD..................)

It must be nice to live in the Matrix and be so smart you can discredit the foundation of an entire culture...... Can you bend spoons with your mind too?

PS- Nenone-if you can't take crits, stay out of toy forum. If the fighting keeps up, I'm banning you.

haha, i understand the root of your distaste now, nenone, if what hes saying is true, if you really want to progress, youre going to have to get rid of that ego. not trying to start beef so dont take it that way.

    and saying that is stupid
    europeans love destroying shit
i seen some shit where they scratch the whole side down of the train with razors after painting a panel
or stop to refil a mop for insides, killing the whole train
whole cars, throwin paint on cars, kickin in windows
    supersoakers the works...
it depends on the individual, your thesis is fuckt

you cant just say one place is for this and one is for another
individuals have individual motives and goals
some to paint pretty shit, some to get up everywhere
    some try to do both
it aint got shit to do with whether your from europe or america, it has to do with how you interpret graffiti
