oh f*ck man.some friends and i were hitting freights one night going to dif freight spots. we walked a mile down the tracks to where this other track crosses over and leads to this other train yard where atleast 1 freight is laid up all night. there was a norfolk southern train going about 10mph towards the train yard so we figured it would stop in the train yard, unfortunately we were mistaken. so we climbed up this steep hill and up onto the other track and waited for the conductor train to get out of view and we hopped on the train to ride it to our destination. we just started havin a conversation cant remember about what but by the time we got to the yard we realized the train had sped up and wasnt stopping, at this point the train was going maybe 35-40 mph. my friend looks at me and says we gotta jump off dude so im like ya, sure, ok, so he just jumps off like nothing onto this other empty track running along side our train and he takes THE gnarliest fall ive ever seen and his face just bounces off the railroad ties and he crushes his arm and his feet fly up over his back. after seeing that he went out of view and i was like fuck i cant leave him so i hang onto the ladder of the hopper car and at this point i realize how fast were going as the wind blows against my face. i place my feet on the ground to try and hold on and run it out but my shoes immediately fly off and my bare feet begin to scrape against the rocks. i push myself away from the train with my arms as hard as i can and and tuck my arms in and fall with my back towards the direction the train is going and i slide on my back for maybe 20 feet against those big rocks and as im sliding im in the ditch between tracks so im sliding closer and closer towards the train as it zooms past me wheels screeching. i stop sliding and i fell pretty hard so i sit up and look away from the train all shook up and thats when i feel my entire left hand go numb. i though a ladder or something had clipped me and just hit it so hard that it went a little numb but i pulled my hand infront of my face and half of my middle finger was gone along with the other 2 fingers to the left and skin had been all ripped off and bones were twisted up. ive never yelled so loud in my life. luckily after seeing that i didnt pass out cause i would have either fallen back into the train and gotten fully cut up or i would have bled out. so i realized how serious the situation was and i had to calm myself down and i held my hand up in the air while holding my vein to prevent bleeding. i had to walk 2 miles back to civilization bare foot, shirtless, and covered in blood wondering if im gonna make it. luckily i made it back and ems got to me in time. now i only have my thumb and index finger on the left but im glad to b alive. im still recovering and i have surgery in a few weeks. moral of the story, b careful with freight trains its no joke
Your story is probably the worst thing that could happen to someone bombing freight trains.
